8 Getting Started Connecting the power source Plug the power cord into the AC adapter (brick), and the power adapter cord into the back of the computer . Route the power cord through the notch in the computer stand, and then plug the power cord into an AC power source through a surge pr otector/uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

10 Getting Started Adjust the Angle of the Computer Stand The HP T ouchSmar t PC is shipped with the computer st and collapsed against the back of the computer . T o assure that the computer is in a stable position on your desktop, pull the computer stand open until it snaps into place.
Getting to Know the HP T ouchSmart PC 11 Synchr onizing the wireless keyboard or mouse The wireless keyboard and mouse are pre-synchroni zed for your convenience, to work with your HP T ouchSmar t PC. They should work immediately af ter pulling the batter y tabs, which activate the pre-installed batteries, and tu rning the mouse switch on ( B ).

16 Getting Started 6 Add other computers or devices to your wired network: a Disconnect power from the broadband modem and the router , and then shut down your HP T ouchSmar t PC and the computers you want to add to your network.

Make sure your hardware and software are compatible with the operating system.
18 Getting Started Using the TV T uner to W atch and Record TV Pr ograms on the HP T ouchSmar t PC Select models only Y ou can watch and record your favorite TV programs by using Windows Media Center . All of the menus in Windows Media Center are accessible through touch, as well as your remote control, keyboard, and mouse.

30 Getting Started Navigating in HP T ouchSmar t Y ou can use touch, a stylus (purchased separately), or the wireless keyboard and mouse to select and deselect items in HP T ouchSmar t. When you are in the HP T ouchSmar t software, you have additional ways to access and navigate programs.
Using the HP T ouchSmart Software 31 Because this touch technology is sensitive, HP reco mmends that you handle the touch screen with care. Please review the following cautions: Resize tiles in the top row of the HP T ouchSmar t homepage. Press and drag the sides of the tile with two fingers.
32 Getting Started Using the onscreen keyboard The onscreen keyboard or Windows T o uch Input Panel enables you to enter text by using touch. It can also recognize your handwriting and conv ert it to plain type-written text.

36 Getting Started Adding photos to your photo librar y When you connect an external device such as a di gital camera, Microsoft Windows V ista detects your external device and displays a message asking if you want to view , copy , or transfer your images to the computer .

38 Getting Started Editing your photos Y ou can make changes to your photos in HP T ouchSma r t Photo. Some of the editing features include removing red-eye, cropping, auto-correcting, and ro tating images. When you ed it a photo, you always have the option to revert to th e original image at a later time.
Using the HP T ouchSmart Software 39 T o adjust red-eye, or to ro tate or auto-correct a photo: 1 Open HP T ouchSmar t, and select the Photo tile. 2 T ap anywhere on a photo to select it. When you select a photo, the photo editing window opens. 3 Select an editing option: Auto-Enhance: This option auto-corrects for contrast and brightness.
40 Getting Started Selecting a music librar y Y ou can use Windows Media Player or iT unes (downloa ded separately) to add your songs to your music librar y . HP T ouchSmar t can play music from only on e music librar y at a time. The default setting is Windows Media Player .
Using the HP T ouchSmart Software 41 Media contr ols Media controls are located in the upper right of th e HP T ouchSmar t software window . These are always there and control music only . When a song is playing, the track name is displayed in the media controls window .
42 Getting Started Creating a playlist of your favorite songs Y ou can create a playlist by simply drag ging your songs to the Playlist window . 1 Open HP T ouchSmar t, and select the Music tile. 2 Select Album , and then select an album to add songs to your playlist.
Using the HP T ouchSmart Software 43 Deleting songs fr om your music librar y T o delete a song from your music librar y , you must open the program where you added your music, such as Windows Media Player or iT unes, and delete it there.
44 Getting Started HP T ouchSmar t V ideo With HP T ouchSmar t V ideo, you can capture your vide os with the built-in webcam, play them back, and then upload them to Y ouT ube with the touch of a finger . Y our videos can be displayed by date or by folder , or you can view all your videos at once.

56 Getting Started HP T ouchSmar t Br owser The current version of HP T ouchSmar t Browser is a simple viewer that is intended to display live content in your HP T ouchSmar t homepage. Use it in a large tile to monitor your favorite W eb sites as they change content throughout the day .
