Control panel features 1 On : Turns the product on or off. When the product is off, a minimal amount of power is still used. To completely remove power, turn off the product, then unplug the power cord. 2 Resume : Instructs the HP Printer to continue after a problem is solved.

5. Select the appropriate options for your pri nt job by usi ng the features av ailable in th e Advanced , Printing Shortcuts , Features , and Color tabs. TIP: You can easily sel ect the appropri ate options for your print job by choosing one of the predefi ned print tasks on the Printing Shortcuts tab.
7. In the Resizin g Options area, click the appropriate paper si ze from the Size li st. If the paper size and pa per type are not compatibl e, the product sof tware displays a n alert and allows you t o select a differ ent type or size.

3 Paper basics You can load many diff erent types and size s of paper in the HP Printer, including let ter or A4 paper, p hoto paper, tra nsparencies, and envel opes.

Order ink supplies For a list of cartri dge numbers, use t he software t hat came wit h the HP Pri nter to find o ut the reorder number. Find the cartridg e number 1. In the HP So lution Ce nter, click Settings , point to Print Settings , and then cl ick Printer Toolbo x .
Automatically clean print cartridges If your printed pages are fa ded or if they conta in ink streaks, the print cartridges might be low on ink or might need t o be cleaned. F or more information, see Check the estimated ink levels . If the print cart ridges are not low o n ink, clean the print cartridges automat ically.
5. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-f ree cloth into distill ed water, and squeeze any excess water from i t. 6. Hold the print cartri dge by its sides. 7. Clean only the copp er-colored contacts. Allow the pri nt cartridges to d ry for approximately t en minute s.

Solution 1: Make sure th e power cord is con nected Solution: • Make sure the power cord is f irmly connected to both th e product and the power adapter. Plug the power cord into a power outlet, surge protector, or power strip. 1 Power connection 2 Power cord and adapter • If you are using a power strip, m ake sure the power st rip is on.
After setting up th e product, it does not print Try the following so lutions to resolve the issue. Solutions ar e listed in orde r, with the m ost likely solution f irst. If the first so lution does not solv e the problem, conti nue trying the remaining soluti ons until the issue is resolved.
Solution 5: Load paper in the in put tray Solution: Load paper in the input tray. For more information, see: Load medi a Cause: The product might have been out of pape r. 4. Click Retry to retry the connection. 5. Continue wit h the installati on and restart the computer w hen prompt ed. Cause: Normally, a green check appe ars indicating that the plug and pla y was successful. A red X i ndicates that the p lug and play faile d.
4. Restart your comput er. NOTE: It is important t hat you disconnect the product before rest arting your computer. Do not connect the p roduct to your comput er until afte r you have reinstalled the softwa re. 5. Insert the produc t CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM dri ve and then start the Setup program.
Wrong, inaccurate, or bl eeding colors If your printout has o ne of the fo llowing print q uality proble ms, try the solutions in this section for help.
Cause: The paper w as loaded incorrectl y, or it was wrinkl ed or too thick. If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution. Solution 3: Chec k the paper type Solution: HP recommends that you use HP papers or any other paper type that is appropriate for th e product.
NOTE: On some computer screens, colors might appear diff erently than they do when printed on paper. In th is case, there is nothing wrong w ith the product, print settings, or ink cart ridges. No furt her troubleshooti ng is required. Cause: The print settings were set incorrectly .
Ink is not filling th e text or graphics complete ly Try the fo llowing solutions i f the in k is not fill ing the text or imag e completel y so that i t appears that parts are missin g or blank.
If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution . Solution 4: Check the pap er type Solution: HP recommend s that you use HP papers or any other paper type that is appropriate for t he product. Always make sure the paper you are printing o n is flat.
Always make sure the p aper you are printin g on is flat. For b est results when p rinting images, use HP Advanced Photo Paper. Store photo medi a in its origi nal packagi ng inside a resea lable plas tic bag on a flat surface in a cool, dry place. When yo u are ready to prin t, remove only t he paper you plan to use i mmediately .
Printouts have horizontal streaks o r lines Try the following soluti ons if your printout has lines, streaks, or marks on it t hat run across the width o f the page.
If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution. Solution 4: Use a higher pri nt quality setting Solution: Check the print quality set ting and make sure it is n ot set too low. To select a print speed or quality 1. Make sure you have paper load ed in the input tray.
4. Click the Device Serv ices tab. 5. Click Align the Printer . The product print s a test page, ali gns the print head, and calibrates the printer. Recycle or discard the page. Cause: The printer needed to be aligned . If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution .

Solution 1: Check the print settings Solution: Check the print settings. • Check the paper type setting to ma ke sure it matches the t ype of pap er loaded in the input t ray. • Check the print qua lity setting and ma ke sure it is not set too low .
3. In the Print Settings area, click Printer Toolbox . NOTE: You can also open th e Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog bo x. In the Print Properties dial og box, clic k the Feature s tab, and then click Printer Services . The Printer Toolbox appea rs.
Solution 2: Make s ure only one type of paper is loaded Solution: Load only one type of paper at a time. Cause: More than on e type of paper was loaded in the input tray. Ink streaks on the back of the paper Try the following sol utions if there is sme ared ink on the back of your printout.
Solution 1: Use TrueTy pe or OpenType fo nts Solution: Use TrueT ype or OpenType fonts t o ensure that the product is able to print smooth f onts. When selectin g a font, look f or the TrueType or OpenT ype icon. TrueType icon OpenType icon Cause: The font was a custom size.
If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution. Print troubleshooting Use this section to so lve these printi ng problems: • Envelopes prin t incorrectly • The product prints meaning less.
Cause: The wrong type of envelop e was loaded. If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution . Solution 3: Tuck the flaps to a void paper jams Solution: To avoid paper j ams, tuck the flaps insid e the envelopes. Cause: The flaps might get ca ught in the rollers.
The margins are no t printing as exp ected Try the following sol utions to resolve th e issue. Solutions are listed in order, w ith the most likely solution first. If the first solut ion does not solve the proble m, continue tryi ng the remaining solut ions until the i ssue is resolved.
If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution . Solution 4: Load the st ack of enve lopes corre ctly Solution: Remove all p aper from the input tray. Load a stack of envelopes in the input tray, wit h the envelope flaps facing up and on the left.
If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution. Solution 2: Ch eck for b lank pages at th e end of the d ocument Solution: Open the document fi le in your software appl ication and remove any extra pages or lines at t he end of the docume nt.
Cause: The protective plasti c tape was only part ially removed f rom the print cartridge. Errors If the product has an error, the l ights on the product might f lash, or an error message might appear on your co mputer screen.

Out of disk space Solution: Close some ap plications and try th e task again. Cause: There was not enough available memory on your computer to p erform the task. Paper messages The following is a list of paper-related error messages: • Ink is drying Ink is drying Solution: Leave the shee t in the output t ray until the message d isappears.
Non-HP cartridg es installed Solution: Follow the prom pts on the computer scree n to continue or rep lace the indicated print ca rtridges with g enuine HP cartridges.
Cause: The original HP ink in the ind icated print cartridg es was depleted . Low on ink Solution: Ink leve l warnings and indicators provi de estimates for pl anning purposes only. When you receive a l ow-ink warning message, consider h aving a replac ement cartridge avail able to avoid possible printing delays.
Incorrectly Ins talled Cartri dge(s) Print Cartridge(s) Mi ssing Print cartridges mis sing or not detected Try the following sol utions to resolve th e issue.
5. Reinsert the print cartridge by sliding it forward into t he slot on the right . Then push the print ca rtridge forward until it clic ks into the socket. 6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the tri-color pri nt cartridge on the le ft side. Cause: The indicated print cartridges were in stalled incorrectl y.
7. Clean only the copp er-colored contacts. Allo w the print cartridges to dry for approximately t en minutes. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Ink nozzles (do not clean) 8. Hold the print cartridg e with the HP logo on top, and insert the print cartridge back into the slot.
Check to see if your pri nt cartridge is still unde r warranty and end of w arranty date has not been reached. • If the end of w arranty date has been reache d, purchase a new print cartridge. • If the end of warrant y date has not bee n reached, contact HP support.
Print car tridges in wrong sl ot Solution: Make sure the print cartridges are inst alled in to the correct slots. If they are, remove and reinsert the prin t cartridges and verify tha t they are fully inserted an d locked in place. To make sure the p rint cartridges ar e installed correctly 1.
5. Reinsert the print cartridge by sliding it forward into t he slot on the right . Then push the print ca rtridge forward until it clic ks into the socket.
4. Remove the black print cartrid ge from the slot on th e right. Do not touch t he ink nozzles or the co pper-colored co ntacts. Check for possibl e damage to the copper- colored contacts or ink nozzles. Make sure the clear pla stic tape has been re moved.
Make sure you have the following materials availabl e: • Dry foam rubber swa bs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material th at will not come apart or leave fibe rs.
8. Hold the print cartridg e with the HP logo on top, and insert the print cartridge back into the slot. M ake sure you push the print cartridge in firmly unt il it snaps into place. 9. Repeat if nece ssary for the other print cart ridge. 10. Gently close the print cartridge door and pl ug the power cord i nto the back of the product.
