Label Name and Description 8 HP ePrint button and light . Press to turn on the HP ePrint function and print an information page. The light indicates whether the prin ter is connected to an HP ePrint server. 9 Wireless button and light . Press to turn the wireless netw ork feature on or off.
Select print media The printer is designed to work well with most types of office media. It is best to test a variety of prin t media types before buying l arge quantities. Use HP media for optimum print quality. Vi sit the HP website at www.hp.com for more informati on about HP media.
HP Premium Plus Photo Paper HP’s best photo paper is heavyweigh t for producing professional quality photos. Features an instant-dry finish for easy handling without smudging. It resists water, smears, fingerpr ints, and humidity. It is available in several sizes, including A4, 8.

Load standard-s ize media To load media Use these instructions to load standard media. 1. Pull out Tray 1. 2. Insert the media print-sid e down in the center of the tra y. Make sure the stack of media aligns with the li ne on the width guid e, and is not higher than t he paper stack line on the guide.
4. Pull out the exte nsion on the output tray. Load envelop es To load envelop es Use these instructi ons to load an envelope. 1. Pull out Tray 1. 2. Insert the envelopes pri nt-side down and load according to the graphic. Make sure the stack of envelop es does not exceed the line marking in the t ray.
3. Slide the media guides in the tra y to adjust them for the media size that you have loaded, and th en reinsert the tray. 4. Pull out the ext ension on the output tray. Load cards and ph oto paper To load car ds and photo paper Use these instructions to load photo paper.
2. Insert the medi a print-side down in the cen ter of the tray. Make sure the stack of media aligns with th e line on the width g uide, and is not hig her than the paper stack line on the guide. NOTE: Do not load pape r while the printer is printi ng.
3. Slide the media guides in the tra y to adjust them for the media size that you have loaded, and th en reinsert the tray. 4. Pull out the ext ension on the output tray.
Install the auto matic two-side d printing accesso ry (duplexer) You can print on bot h sides of a sheet of paper automatical ly. For information on using the duplexer, see Print on both sides (d uplexing). To install th e duplexer ▲ Slide the dup lexer into th e back of the pri nter until th e unit locks in to place.
4. Connect the powe r cord and turn on the printer. 5. Enable Tray 2 in the printer driver. For mo re information, see Turn on accessories in the printer driver . To load Tr ay 2 1. Pull the tray out of the printer by grasping under the front of the tray .

Maintain the printer This section provides i nstructions for keeping the prin ter in top working conditio n. Perform this maintenance procedure as necessary. • Clean the exte rior Clean the exterior WARNING! Before cleaning the printe r, turn off the power and unplug the power cord from the electrical socket.
Turn the printer off Turn the printer of f by pressing the (Power) button located on the printer. Wait until the power light tu rns off before unplugging the pow er cord or turning off a power strip .
2P r i n t Most print sett ings are automatically handle d by the software application. Change t he settings manu ally only when you want to chan ge print quality, print on specif ic types of paper, or use special feat ures. For more information about selecting the be st print media for your documents, see Select print media.
3. Make sure the printer you want t o use is selected. 4. To change setting s, click the button that open s the Properties dialog box. Depending on your sof tware application, this butto n might be called Properti es , Options , Printer Setup , Printer , or Prefer ences .
Print brochures (Windows) NOTE: To set print settings f or all print jobs, make the changes in the HP software provided with the pri nter. For more information on the HP software, se e Printer management too ls. 1. Load paper in the t ray. For more information, see Load media.
• Thick, irregular, or curled edges • Areas that a re wrinkled, to rn, or otherwise damaged Make sure the folds of envelopes you load in the printer are sharply creased. NOTE: For more informati on about printing on en velopes, see the docu mentation available with th e software program you are using.
Print photos Do not leave unused ph oto paper in the input tray. The paper might start to curl, wh ich could impair the quali ty of your printou t. Photo paper shou ld be flat before printing.
6. Click Paper Type/Quality from the pop-up menu, and then select the followin g settings: • Paper Type: The appropriate photo paper type • Quality: Best or Ma ximum dpi NOTE: If you do not see th ese options, click the disclosure tr iangle next to the Printer pop-up menu or cli ck Show Details .
4. Make sure th e printer yo u want to us e is selected. 5. Select the appropri ate paper size from the Paper Size pop-up menu (if avail able). 6. Click Paper Handli ng from the pop-up menu. 7. Under Destination P aper Size , click Scale to fit paper size , and then select the custom size.

3H P e P r i n t HP ePrint is a free service fro m HP that allows you to print to your H P ePrint-enabled printer anywhere you can sen d an email. Just send your documents and photos t o the email address assigne d to your printer when you en able Web Services.
4. In the Web Services Setting s section, click Setup , click Continue , and fo llow the onscreen ins tructions to ac cept the terms of use . 5. If prompted , choose to allow the printer to check for and install printer updates. NOTE: If a printer update is available, the printer will download and install th e update, and then rest art.

4 Work with ink cartridges To ensure the best pri nt quality from the printer, you need to perf orm some simple maintenance procedure s. This section provides guidelines for han dling the ink cartridges, instructions for replacing the ink cartrid ges, and aligning and cl eaning the printhead.
Check the estimated ink levels You can check the estimated ink levels fr om the printer software or from the printer control panel. For inform ation about using these tools, se e Printer management tools and Use the printer con trol panel.
Replace the ink cartridges NOTE: For information on recycling used ink supplies, see HP inkj et supplies recycling program. If you do not already have replacement ink cart ridges for the printer, see HP suppli es and accessories. NOTE: At this time, some portions of the HP websi te are available in English only.
Make sure that you insert t he ink cartridge into the sl ot that has the same colored letter as the color you are installing. 6. Repeat steps 3 th rough 6 for each ink cartridge you are replacing.
HP collects a s ampling of the memo ry chips from cartridges returned to HP's f ree return and recycling program (HP Pl anet Partners: www.hp.com/hpin fo/globalcitizenship/ environment/recycle/). The memory chips from this sa mpling are read and studied in order to imp rove future HP printers.
5 Solve a problem The information in thi s chapter suggests solutions to common problems. I f your printer is not operating correct ly and those suggestions did not sol ve your problem, t ry using one of the follow ing support services to obtain assist ance.
Obtain elec tronic support To find support and warrant y information, go to the HP website at www.hp.com/go/ customercare . This website provides information an d utilities that can help you correct many common printer p roblems.

• The printer prin ts slowly • The printe r is making some unexpe cted noises • Blank or partial page printed • Something on th e page is missing or incorrect • Placement of the t ext or gra.
Check any persona l firewall software installed on the computer The personal softw are firewall is a security program that pr otects a computer from intrusion. However, th e firewall might block communication between the computer and the printer. If there is a pro blem communicating with the print er, try temporarily disabling the firewall.
Cause: The ink cartridges might have insufficient ink. Insuff icient ink may cause the printhead t o overheat. When the printhead ove rheats, the printer slow s down to allow it to cool. If this did not so lve the issue, try the next solution. Solution 3: Contact HP suppor t Solution: Contac t HP support for service.

Solution 2: Check the in k levels Solution: Check the estima te d ink levels in the ink cartridges. NOTE: Ink level alerts and indicators provide estimate s for planning purposes only. When you rece ive a low-ink alert, consi der having a replacement cartridge available to avoi d possible printing delays.

Solution 6: Print and evalu ate a print quality report Solution: To print a print quality re port • Control pan el: Press and ho ld the (Power) button, press the (Can cel) button seven times, press the (Resume) button two times, a nd release the (Power) button.
If defects are se en on the Print Quality Diagnostic report , follow the steps below: 1. If the Print Qual ity Diagnostic report shows fade d, partial, streaked, or missi ng color bars or patterns, check for depleted ink cartridge s, and replace the ink cartridge that corresponds to th e defective color bar or color pattern .
Media is not coming out correctl y • Make sure the out put tray extender is fully extended; otherwise, printed p ages may fall off the printe r. • Remove excess media from the ou tput tray. There is a limit to the nu mber of sheets the tray ca n hold.
• Make sure the tray is not overloaded with paper. • Use HP media for op timum performance and efficiency. Solve problems using HP ePrint and HP websites This section provides solu tions to common problems using HP ePrint and HP websites.

Solve problems using HP websites If you are havi ng problems using HP websit es from your computer, check the follow ing: • Make sure the compu ter that you are using is conn ected to the Internet.
Follow these sugge stions in order, starting with those li sted in the “Basic wireless troubleshoo ting” section. If you still encou nter problems, follow the sugge stions provided in the “Advanced wirele ss troubleshooting” sect ion.
Advanced wireless troubleshoo ting If you have tried the suggesti ons provided in Basic wireless troubleshooting and are st ill unable to connect to your prin ter to the wireless network, tr y the fol.
To check a wi reless connection 1. Make sure that you r computer's wireless has been turned on. (For more informatio n, see the documentat ion that came with your compu ter.) 2. If you are not us ing a unique network name (SSID), then it is possible that your wireless compu ter could be connected to a nearby network th at is not yours.
A: Make sure the prin ter is on the network 1. If the printer su pports Ethernet networking and is conn ected to an Ethernet network, make sure an Etherne t cable is not plu gged into the back of the printer. If an Ethern et cable is plugged int o the back, then w ireless connectivity is disable d.

Check the p rinter IP addres s • To check the IP address of the pri nter, obtain the IP address on the net work configuration p age. To print a network configura tion page, press and h old the (Resume) button, and th en press the (Wirel ess) button.
HP softwa re installa tion sugges tions Check the comp uter system • Make sure that your computer is running one of the su pported operating systems. For more informat ion, see System requirements • Make sure that the computer meets at least the minimum system requirements.
◦ Make sure the printer is in stalled on the same subnet as t he computers that use the printe r. ◦ If the install ation program cannot discover the pr inter, print the network configuration page and enter the IP address manual ly in the installation program .

Understand the network configurati on page If the printer is con nected to a network, you can print a net work configuration page to view the network sett ings for the printer. You can use the network configuration page to help troubleshoot network connectivity problem s.
1. WPS PIN: Sh ows the WPS PIN for you to set up the pri nter on your wireless network using the PIN Method. 2. General Information: Shows inform ation about the current stat us and active connection type of the network, and other information, such as the URL of the embedded we b server.
Printhead maintenance If you are experiencing p roblems with printing, you might have a problem with the printhead. You should perform the procedures i n the following sections only when directed to do so for resol ving print quality issues.
To clean the printhead fr om the embedded web server (EWS) 1. Open the EWS. For more informa tion, see To open the embe dded web server. 2. Click the Tools tab, an d then click Print Quality Toolbox in the Utilities section. 3. Click Clean Printhe ad and foll ow the onscreen instructions.
Remove and rein stall the printhead 1. Make sure th at the prin ter is turned on. 2. Open the top cover and the ink-cartridge access door. 3. Lift the latch h andle on the print carriage. 4. Remove the pr inthead by lifting it u p and then pulling it out of the printer.
5. Make sure the latc h handle is raised, and then rein sert the printhead. 6. Carefully lower t he latch handle. NOTE: Make sure you lower the latch handle before reins erting the ink cartridges. Leaving the latch ha ndle raised can result in inco rrectly seated ink cartridges and problems printing .
To clear a jam Use these steps to clea r a paper jam. 1. Remove all media f rom the output tray. CAUTION: Trying to clear a pa per jam from the fr ont of the print er can damage the print m echanism. Always access and clear paper jams through t he automatic two-sided print ing accessory (duplexer).
4. If you have not fou nd the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and remove the jammed med ia, if possible. If not, do the foll owing: a . Ensure the printer is turned off and di sconnect the power cord. b . Lift the printer off Tray 2 .

• Turn off administrative access over wireless if possible. If you do this, you need to connect to the router with an Ethernet connection when you w ant to make configuration changes. • Turn off remote administrative access over the Internet on your router, if possible.

F Errors (Windows) Unable to Communicate with Printer The computer cannot communicate with the pr inter because one of th e following events has occurred: • The printer has been turned off. • The cable connecting the printer - such as a USB cable or a netw ork (Ethernet) cable – has been disconnected.
Turn off the printer, and then turn it on again. If the problem persists, contact HP support for service or replacement. Cartridge Problem The ink cartridge identified in the message is missi ng, damaged, incompatible, or inserted into the wrong slot in the printer.
