2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP Al l-in-One to print document s or photos from you r computer, print pho tos directly from a mem ory card or storage device, scan document s or photos, or make copies. HP papers that a re specifi cally desi gned for the typ e of project you are printing produce the best re sults.

Tools Preferences Bluetooth Help Menu The Help Menu prov ides quick access to ke y help topics. It is availa ble if you press Help when the Home screen is showing on th e display. If you select one of the first five topics, the help ap pears on the display.

4 Finish setting up the HP All-in- One After you have completed t he steps in your Start Here gu ide, refer to this section to hel p you finish setting up the HP All-in-O ne. This section contains importan t setup-related information for your prod uct.

Set up the HP All-in-One on a wired (Ethernet) network This section descri bes how to connect the HP Al l-in-One to a router, switch, or hub using an Ethernet cable and how to i nstall the HP Photosmart Softwa re for a network connection. This is known as a wired or Ethernet network.

Set up the HP All-in-One on an integr ated wireless (WLAN 8 02.11) network The HP All-in-One use s an internal networking comp onent that sup ports a wireless network. For optimal performance and security in your wireless network, HP recomme nds you use a wireless route r or access point (802.

To connect the pr oduct with SecureEasySe tup 1. Activate SecureEasySetup on your wireless router or access point. 2. Press Setup . 3. Press the down arrow butt on until Network is high lighted, and then p ress OK . 4. Press the down arrow butt on to highlight Wireless Setup Wizard , and then press OK .
OR ▲ Use an ad hoc network profi le on your computer to connect to t he product. If your computer is no t currently configu red with an ad hoc network profile, con sult the Hel p file for your computer Ope rating System for the proper me thod to create an ad hoc profile on your comput er.
5. Select the Use Windows to config ure my wireless netw ork settings check box. 6. Click Add , and then do the foll owing: a .I n Network name (SSID) box, type in a un ique network name of your choice. NOTE: The network name is case sensit ive, so it is import ant to remember any uppercase (capital) and lowercase (sm all) letters.
• Network name (SSID) : Mynetwork (example on ly) NOTE: You should create a ne twork name that is unique and easy for you to remember. Just reme mber that the network name is case -sensitive. Therefore, you must remember whi ch letters are upperca se and lowerca se.

To install the Windo ws HP Photosmart Software 1. Quit all applicatio ns running on your computer, including any virus detect ion software. 2. Insert the Windows CD that ca me with the product in to the CD-ROM drive o n your computer and fol low the onscreen instructio ns.
3. Install the software for a network co nnection, cho ose Ad d a product , and then choose Through th e network . 4. When the instal lation is complete, open Printers and Faxes (or Printers ) in the Control Panel and delete the printers from th e previous USB install ation.

Use the Embedded Web Server to modify network setti ngs The Embedded Web Serve r gives you an intuitive interface to your network connection parameters. To access the Em bedded Web Server se tup wizard 1. Print a network co nfiguration pag e to find the IP address for t he product.
General network settings The followin g table describes t he general network setti ngs shown on the network configuratio n page. Paramete r Description Network Status Status of the HP A ll-in-One: • Ready : The HP All-in-One is ready to receive or transmit data.
Wired (802.3) network settings The following table descri bes the 802.3 wired settings shown on the net work configuration page. Parameter Description Hardware Address (MAC) The Media Access Control (MAC) address that identifies the HP All-in-One.
Paramete r Description Link Configuration The speed at which data is transmitted over a network. Speeds include 10TX- Full , 10TX-Half , 100TX-Full , and 100TX-Half . When set to None , networking is disabled. Total Packets transmitted The number of packets transmitted by the HP All-in-One without error since it has been turned on.
Parameter Description • Manual : The configuration parameters are set manually, such as a static IP address. • Not Specified : The mode used when the HP All-in-One is initializing. DNS server The IP address of the domain name service (DNS) for the network.
Paramete r Description number. Value is from 1 to 14; countries/regions might limit the range of approved channels. • (number) : Value ra nging from 1 to 14, dependin g on country/region. • None : No channel is in use. • Not Applicable : The WLAN is disabled or this parameter does not apply to this network type.
Parameter Description Access Poi nt HW Address The hardware address of the wire less router or access poin t on the network to which the HP All-in-One is connected: • (MAC address) : The unique MAC ( Media Access Control) hardware address of the access point.
HEX Hexadecimal. The base 16 numbering system , which uses the digits 0-9 plus the letters A-F. host computer The computer at the center of a ne twork. Hostname The TCP/IP name assigned by the installation softwa re to the device. By default, this is the letters HP followed by the last 6 digits of the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

I t is possible to have both the Microsoft Stack and the Widcomm Stack on your computer , but you use only one of th em to connect the HP All-in -One. • Microsoft s tack : If you have Windows Vista or Wi ndows XP with Service Pack 2 installed on your computer, then your computer has the Microsoft Bluetooth ® Protocol Stack.
To install and print using the Widcomm stack 1. Make sure that you have installed the product softwa re on the computer. NOTE: The purpose of instal ling the software is t o make sure the printe r driver is available for t he Bluetooth ® connection .
The followin g table describes the Bluetooth sett ings shown on the configuration pa ge. Paramete r Description Device Address The hardware address of the Bluetoo th device. Device Name The device name assigned to the product, which can identify it on a Bluetooth device.
Set Bluetooth security for the HP All-in-One You can enable the product security sett ings through the Bluetooth menu on t he HP All- in-One. From the Bluetooth menu, you can: • Ensure passkey auth entication prior to someone printing to the HP All-in-One from a Bluetooth devic e.
Set the HP All-in-One to be in visible to Bluetooth devi ces You can s et the HP All-in -One to be either Visible to all Bluetooth devices (publ ic) or Not visible to any (private). • Visible to all : This is the default accessibility le vel. Any Bluetooth d evice within range can print to the HP All-in-One.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many differen t types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-On e, including letter or A4 paper, pho to paper, transparenci es, and envelopes.
3. Close the li d. Choose papers for printing and copying You can use differ ent types an d sizes of paper in the HP All-in-On e. Review the follo wing recommendati ons to get the best prin ting and copying q uality. Whenever you change paper types or si zes, remember to change those settings.
HP Advanced Photo Paper or HP Photo Pape r HP Advanced Photo Paper or HP Photo Pa per is a sturdy, glossy photo paper that features an instant-dr y finish for easy handling without smudging. It resist s water, smears, fingerprints, and hum idity. Your prints have a look and feel comparable to a store- processed photo.
HP Iron-On Tran sfers HP Iron-On Transfe rs (for color fabrics or for light or white f abrics) are the ideal solution for creating custom T-sh irts from your digital phot os.
• Iron-On Transfers. • Greeting card pa per. Load paper This section describes the pro cedure for loading diffe rent types and sizes of paper into the HP All-in-One for your copies or printouts. TIP: To help prevent rips, w rinkles, and curled or bent edges, store all paper fl at in a resealable bag.
3. Insert the st ack of paper into the main in put tray with the short edge forward an d the print side down . Slide the stack of paper forwa rd until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that the pro duct is idle and silent when you load paper into the main inpu t tray.
To load up to 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7 inch) photo paper in the photo tray 1. Raise the photo tray lid. 2. Slide the paper-width guide to it s outermost position. 3. Insert the st ack of photo pa per into the pho to tray with the short edge fo rward and the print side down.
4. Slide the paper-wid th guide inward until it st ops at the edge of the paper. Do not overload the photo tray; make sure the stack of photo paper fits within the photo tray and is no higher than th e top of the paper-wid th guide. 5. Lower the photo tra y lid.

Load envelopes You can load one or more e nvelopes into the main inpu t tray of the HP All-in-One . Do not use shiny or embossed envelopes or envelopes that have clasps or windows. NOTE: For specific det ails on how to form at text for printing on envelopes, con sult the help files in your word processi ng software.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any soft ware application t hat allows pri nting. You can print a range of proje cts, such as borderl ess images, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printer to use from all soft ware applications. This means that the HP All-in-One is automat ically selected in the printer l ist when you select Print f rom the File menu in a software appli cation.

To print a multiple-pag e document as a booklet 1. Load paper into the i nput tray. The paper shoul d be thick enough so that the images do not show t hrough to the other side. 2. On the File menu in your software app lication, click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the select ed printer.

Print a multip le-page docu ment in reve rse order Because of the way the pa per feeds through the HP Al l-in-One, the first page that prints is print side up at the botto m of the stack. Usually thi s means you need to put the printed pages in the correct order.
To reverse an ima ge for iron-on transfer s 1. On the File menu in your software ap plication, click Print . 2. Make sure the product is the selected printer.
To print a group of addr esses on labels or en velopes 1. Print a test page on pla in paper first. 2. Place the test page on top of the label sheet or envelope, and hold b oth up to the light. Check the spaci ng for each block of text. Ma ke adjustments as nee ded.
7. In the Poster Printing drop-down list, click ei ther 2x2 (4 sheets) , 3x3 (9 sheets) , 4x4 (16 sheets) , or 5x 5 (25 sheets) . This selection tells the product to enlarge your document so that it fits on 4, 9, 16, or 25 pages. If your originals are of multi ple pages, each of those pages w ill be printed on 4, 9, 16, or 25 pages.
3. Double-click th e product icon . TIP: You can also dou ble-click the printe r icon in the Wind ows taskbar. 4. Select the prin t job you want to cancel. 5. On the Document menu, click Cancel Printing or Can cel , or press the Delete key on your keyboard.

8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-One is e quipped with memory card slots and a front USB p ort that enable you to print or edit photo s from a memory card or storage device (su ch as a keychain drive, portable hard dri ve, or a digital camera in storage mode) with out uploading your photos to a compute r first.

TIP: To achieve th e best print qualit y, HP recommends using H P papers that are specifically de signed for the type of project you are prin ting along with g enuine HP ink. HP papers and H P ink are specifical ly designed to work well together t o provide high-quali ty output.
Create special project s from your photos The HP All-in-O ne enables you to create spec ial projects fro m your photos, includ ing: • Photo albums • Panorama prints • Wallet-si ze photos • Passport-size photos To create spec ial projects 1.
To save photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on the prod uct or connect a storage device to the front USB port. 2. Press the right arrow butto n until Save is highlighted, a nd then press OK . NOTE: If the product is ne twork-connected, a list of available computers appears.
Rotate a photo Depending on how you were holding your d igital camera at the ti me you took a photo, the photo mi ght appear sideways or upside dow n on the display. You might need to ro tate the photo t o make it show properly on the displ ay. NOTE: The HP All-in-O ne automatically adj usts the rotation so photos print pr operly on the page.
An outline appea rs on the photo to show you an approximate view of the area that will print. 4. Press the arrows on the dire ctional pad to pan a round the photo a nd select a specific area to print.
To print a frame around your pho to 1. Press the Menu button on the photo selection screen. 2. In the Edit Photos men u, press the up arrow or down arrow b utton until Frame is highlighted , and then press OK . 3. Press the left arrow or righ t arrow button to scroll through the frames.
To change the colo r effects 1. Press the Menu button on the photo sele ction screen. 2. In the Edit Photos menu, press t he up arrow or do wn arrow button to highlight Color Effect , and then press OK .

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text and pict ures into an electronic format for your computer. You can scan almost anythin g (photos, magazine articles and text docume nts) on the HP All-in -One.
NOTE: When scanning, t he HP Photosmart Software enables you to save an i mage in the f ollowing file form ats: BMP, DCX, F PX, GIF, JPG, PCD, PCX, and TIF. To scan to a computer 1. Load your original pri nt side down on the right fr ont corner of the glass.
To save a scan to the m emory card or storage de vice 1. Make sure your memory card is insert ed into the appropriat e slot on the product, o r a storage device is conne cted to the front USB port. 2. Load your original print side down on the righ t front corner of the glass.
Stop scanning To stop scanning ▲ Press Cancel on the co ntrol panel. Chapter 9 106 Use the scan features Scan.
10 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne enables you to pro duce high-quality colo r and black-and-whit e copies on a variety of paper types, includin g transparenci es.

Preview your copy job After changing setti ngs on the HP All-in-One for making a copy, you can preview an image of the expected outp ut on the display before starti ng the copy.

To set the paper type for copies 1. Press OK when Copy is highligh ted on the Home Scre en. 2. Press the Menu bu tton to select Copy Settings . 3. Press the down arrow butt on to highlight Paper Typ e , and then press OK . 4. Press the down arrow button unti l the appropriate paper type appe ars, and then press OK .
Change co py speed or quality The HP All-in-On e provides three options th at affect copy spe ed and quality: • Best produces high quality for all p aper and eliminates the banding (striping) effect that sometimes occurs in solid areas. Best copies slower than t he Normal or Fast quality sett ings.
To set default copy settin gs from the co ntrol panel 1. Make any needed chan ges to the Copy se ttings. 2. Press OK when Copy is highligh ted on the Home Scre en. 3. Press the Menu bu tton to select Copy Settings . 4. Press the down arrow butt on to highlight Set as New Defaults , and then press OK .
Press the down arrow butt on or the up arrow button to highlight one of the following, and then press OK . • Actual Size : This feature enable s you to print an exact copy of the original.
Shift the left margin If you are planning to bind your copies along the left edge (for example, in a 3-ring binder), you can shift your copy slightly to t he right, so that the words or i mages on the left side of the page do not extend i nto the bi nding margin .
3. Press the down arrow bu tton to highlight Enhanceme nts , and then press OK . 4. Press the up arrow or down arrow butto n to highlight the ty pe of document you are copying ( Text , Photo , or Mix ed ), and then press OK . NOTE: You can also try turning off E nhancements if you are seeing quality issues when copyi ng.

12 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requi res little main tenance. So metimes you migh t want to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensur e that your copies and sca ns remain clear. You will a lso need to replace i nk cartridges, clean the printhead asse mbly, or align the print er from time to time.
• Turn off the HP All -in-One by pressing the On but ton located on the product . Wait until the On li ght turns off before unp lugging the power co rd or turning off a power strip.
To check the ink leve ls from the control p anel 1. Press Setup . 2. Press the down arrow bu tton to highlight Tools , and then press OK . 3. Press the down arrow bu tton to highlight Display Ink Gauge , and then press OK . The product disp lays a gauge that show s the estimated in k levels of all cartri dges installed.
To replac e the ink ca rtridges 1. Make sure the product is turned on. 2. Open the ink car tridge acc ess door by lifting from the front ri ght of the produc t, until the door locks into place. The print carria ge moves to the center of th e product. NOTE: Wait until the p rint carriage stop s moving before p roceeding.
5. Twist the orange cap t o snap it off. 6. Using the colored shaped icons for help, slide the ink cartridg e into the empty slo t until it clicks into pl ace and is seated firmly in the slo t. CAUTION: Do not lift the latch h andle on the print ca rriage to install the i nk cartridges.
Make sure that you insert th e ink cartridg e into the sl ot that has the same shap ed icon and color as the one yo u are installin g. 7. Repeat steps 3 throug h 6 for each ink cartridge you a re replacing.

Scan fails because of insuff icient computer memory Solution: Close a ll programs that are no t in use. This incl udes programs that run in the backgroun d, such as screen savers and virus checkers. If you turn off your virus checker, remember to tu rn it back on after you finish your scan.
Cause: If yo u used the Text image type to scan t ext that you planned to edit, the scanner might no t have recognized color text. The Text image type scans at 300 x 300 dpi, in black a nd white. If you scanned an origina l that has graphics or art work surrounding the text, the scanner might not have recog nized the text.

If you are using ink cartri dges that are not compatibl e with the product, repl ace the indicated ink cartridge s with ink cartridges th at are compatible. CAUTION: HP recommends that you do not remove a n ink cartridge until a replacement is ready to instal l.
Ink level warnings and indicators provide est imates for planning purposes only. When you receive an ink alert message, consider ha ving replacement ink cartridg es available to avoid possible pri nting del ays.
3. Make sure the ink cart ridges are installed in th e correct slots. Match the shape of th e icon and color of the in k cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color. 4. Run your finger alon g the top of the ink cartrid ges to locate any cartridge s that are not snapp ed completely dow n.
11. Reinstall t he ink cartridge. It should now snap down in to place. 12. Close the ink cartri dge access door, and check if the error message has gone away. 13. If you still rece ive the error message, tu rn the product off, an d then on again. Cause: The indicated ink cartridges were not inst alled correctly.

8. Using the col ored shaped icons for help , slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot until it clicks i nto place and is seated f irmly in the slot. 9. Close the ink cartridg e door. Cause: The print head or ink cartridges were not installed or in correctly installed.
NOTE: HP cannot guaran tee the qualit y or reliabilit y of non-HP suppl ies. Printer service or repairs required as a resul t of using a non-HP sup ply will not be co vered under warranty. If you believe you purchased genuine H P ink cartridges, go to: www.
NOTE: HP recommends th at you do not leave the ink cartri dge outside of the printer for an extended period of time. If a used cartridg e is installed, check the print quality. If it is not satisfactory, run the cleaning procedure from the toolbox. Cause: The genui ne HP ink cartridge was previously used in some other produ ct.
