Light behavior Solution Dimmed Indicates the printer is in Sleep mode. The printer autom atically enters Sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Fast blinking Error has occurred. Refer to the messages on the p rinter display. Pulsing Indicates that the printe r is initializi ng or is being shut down.

Print documents To load paper 1. Make sure the paper tray is open. 2. Slide the paper-width guide s all the way open. 3. Place the paper in the paper tray. The sid e to be print ed on sh ould face down. 4. Push the s tack of pap er into the pr inter until it st ops.
3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on yo ur software app lication, this button might be ca lled Properties , Opti ons , Printer Setup , Printer Properties , Printer , or Preferences . 4. Select the appropriate options.
Print photos To load photo pape r 1. Make sure the paper tray is open. 2. Slide the paper-width guide s all the way open. 3. Remove all paper from th e paper tray, and then load the photo p aper with sid e to be printed on facing down. 4. Push the s tack of pho to papers int o the printe r until it stops .
Print envelopes You can load one or more e nvelopes into the paper tray of the H P Officejet 4 630 series . Do not use shiny or embossed envelopes, or envelopes that have clasp s or w indows. NOTE: For details on how to for mat on e nvelopes, se e the help files i n your word a pplication.
Print Quick Forms Use Quick Forms to print calendars, c heck lis ts, games, n otebook paper, graph p aper, music paper, and games. To print Quick Forms 1. From the Home screen on the pr inter displa y, press the Up and Down buttons to select Quick Forms , and then press OK .
Print with HP wireless direct With HP wireless direct, you can print wirelessly from a comput er, smart phone, tablet, or other wireless-capable devi ce—withou t connectin g to an existing wirel ess network. When using HP wireless dir ect, note the following guidelin es: ● Make sure your computer or mobil e device has the necessary soft ware .

Print using the maximum dpi Use maximum dots per inch (dpi) mode to print high-quality, sha rp images on photo pa per. Printing in maximum dpi ta kes longer th an printing w ith other s etting s and requires a large amount of memory. To print in Maxi mum dpi mode 1.
Tips for print success To print successfully, the HP c ar tridges should be functionin g properly with suffi cient ink, the paper should be loaded cor rectly, and t he printer shoul d ha ve the app ropria te setting s. Print se ttings do n ot apply to cop ying or scanning.
◦ Print in Grayscale : Allows yo u to print a bla ck and white document using the blac k ink only. Select Black Ink Only , and then click the OK but ton. ◦ Borderless Printing : Select t his feature to print p hotos without border. Not all m edia types support this feature.

Recommended papers for printing If you want the best p ri nt quality, HP recommends using HP pap e rs that a re specifi cally design ed for the type of project you are printing . Depending on your co untry/region, some of these p apers might no t be available.
Business documents ● HP Premium Presentation Paper 120g Matte or HP Professional Paper 120 Matt These papers are hea vy two-sided matte pa pers perfe ct for pres e ntation, pro posals, report s, and newslet ters. They are heavy weight for an impressive look a nd feel.
Load media Select a pap er size to c ontinue. To load full-size paper 1. Lower the paper tray, and then pul l out the paper tr ay and tra y extender. 2. Slide the paper-width guide s outward. 3. Load the paper. ● Insert a stack of paper into the p aper tray with the short edge fo rward and the print si de down.
● Adjust the paper- width guide s so they fi t against bo th sides of th e stack of p aper. ● Slide the paper tray in. To load small-s ize paper 1. Lower the paper tray, and then pul l out the paper tr ay and tra y extender. 2. Slide the paper-width guide s outward.
3. Load the photo paper. ● Insert a stack of photo paper in to the paper tr ay with the shor t edge forward and the print side down. ● Slide the stack of photo pa per forward u ntil it stops. ● Adjust the paper- width guide s so they fi t against bo th sides of th e stack of p hoto paper.

Order HP paper supplies The printer is designed to work well with most types of office media. Use HP media for optimum print quality. Visit the HP website at www.hp.com for more information about HP media. HP recommends plain pap ers with t he ColorLo k logo for printing and copying of everyday documents.

Copy documents The Copy me nu on the printer disp lay allo ws you t o easily select numbe r of copies and color or black and white for copying on plain paper. You can also easily acces s advanc ed settings, such as changing the paper ty pe and size, adjusting the dar kness of the copy, and resizin g the copy.
5. Select 2-Side d to enab le it, and t hen press OK to c onfirm. 6. Select Start Black Copy or Start Color Copy . ● If you load multiple of 1-sided original in the ADF, press OK to complete. ● If you load a 2-sided ori ginal in the ADF or on the scanner gla ss, press OK , and then go to step 7.
Scan to a computer You can scan from the control pan el of the printer or from your computer. Scan from the control panel if you want to quickly scan one page to an image file. Scan fro m your computer if you want to scan multiple pages in to one file, def ine the file format of the sca n, or make adjustmen ts to the sc anned image.
Tips for copy success ● Clean the scanner gla ss and make sure that there are no foreign materials adheri ng to it. ● To increas e or decre ase the cont rast of your pr inted out put, se lect Copy from the printer display and then select Lig hter/Darker to adjust t he contrast .

6F a x You can u se the printe r to send and receive faxes, includ ing co lor faxes. You can schedule faxes to be sent at a later time an d set up speed-dial s to send faxes qu ickly an d easily to frequently used numbers.
Send a fax You can s end a fax in a variety of ways. Usi ng the prin ter cont rol pan el, you can send a black-and- white or color fax. You can also send a fax manua lly from an at tached phone. This allows you to speak with the recipien t before sending the fax.
Send a standard fax from the computer You can send a document o n your c omputer as a fax, without prin ting a copy and faxing it from the printer. NOTE: Faxes sent from your computer by this metho d use the printer's fax con nection, not your Internet connection or co mputer m odem.
3. Dial the numb er by using the ke ypad on the phone tha t is connec ted to the printe r. NOTE: Do not use the keypad on the co ntrol panel of th e printer when man ually sendin g a fax. You must use the keypad on your pho ne to dial the recipien t's n umber.
Schedule a fax to send later You can schedule a blac k-and-whit e fax to be sent within the ne xt 24 hours. This enables you to send a black-and-white fax late in th e evening, when phone lin es are not as busy or phone rate s are lower, for example. The p rinter automat ically sen ds you r fax at the sp ecified time.
To change the ECM setti ng from the control pane l 1. From the Home screen on the pr inter displa y, press the Up and Down buttons to select Fax , and then press OK . 2. Select Settings , and then selec t Advanced Settings . 3. Select Error C orrection .
Receive a fax You can receive faxes automatica lly or manually. If y ou turn of f the Auto Answer option, you must receive faxes manually . If you turn on the Aut o Answer option (the default s etting), the printer automatically answe rs incoming calls and receives faxes after t he number of rings t hat are specified by the Rings to Answer setting.
Reprint received faxes from memory The received faxes, which are no t p rinted out, are stored in me mory. NOTE: After the memory becom es full, t he printer cannot receive the n ew fax until you print or delete the faxes from memory. You might also wa nt to dele te the faxes in memory fo r securit y or privacy purposes.
5. At the prompt, enter the number o f the fax machine intended to receive th e forwarded faxes, and then select Done . Enter the required information fo r each of the following prom pts: start date, start time, end date, a nd end time. 6. Fax forwarding is a ctivated.

Set up speed-dial entries You can set up frequen tly used f ax numbers as spe ed-dial entrie s. This le ts you d ial th ose numbers quickly by using the printer control panel.
Delete speed-dial entries To delete speed-di al entries 1. From the Home screen on the pr inter displa y, press the Up and Down buttons to select Fax , and then press OK . 2. Select Settings , and then selec t Phone Book . 3. Select the e ntry you wa nt t o delete, and then select Delete to confirm.
Change fax settings Use the fo llowing steps to change the init ial settings or to co nfigure other options for fa xing. ● Configure the fax he ader ● Set the answer mode (Auto answer) ● Set the.
Set the number of rings before answering If you turn on the Auto Answer setting, you can specify how many rings occur befo re incoming calls are auto matically answered .
4. Select Ring Settings , and then select Distinctive Ring . 5. A message appears stating tha t this setting should n ot be chang ed unl ess you have multi ple numbers on the same telephone line . Set the fax speed You can set the fax speed used t o communicate between your p rin ter and other fax machines when sending and receiving faxes. If you use one of the follow ing, setting the fa x spee.
Fax and digital phone services Many telephone comp anies provide th eir custom ers with dig ital p hone services, such as the following: ● DSL: A Digital subscriber line (D SL) service through your telep ho ne company. (DSL might be called ADSL in your cou ntry/region.
Fax over Internet Protocol You might b e able to s ubscribe t o a low cost phone service that allows you t o send and r eceive faxe s with you r printer by using the I nterne t.
Use reports You can set up the printer to pri nt error reports and confirmat io n reports automatically for each fax you send and receive. You can als o manually print system report s as required; th ese report s provide useful system information a bout the printer.
On Always Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send and receive. Error Only Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax erro r. This is the default setting. Print and view the fax log You can print a log of faxes tha t have been rece ived and sent b y the printer.
To view the Call History 1. From the Home screen on the pr inter displa y, press the Up and Down buttons to select Fax , and then press OK . 2. Select Settings , and then selec t Junk Fax . 3. Select Add a Number , select From Call History , and then press OK .
Tips for fax success ● Load your original prin t-side dow n on the right fron t corner of the glass or print-side up in the ADF. HP ePrint HP ePrin t is a free ser vice from HP tha t allows you t o print to your HP ePrint-enabl ed printer anytime, from any location. It's as simpl e as sending an email to the e m ail address assigned to yo ur printer when you enable We b Services on the pr inter.
To find the printer's email address 1. Press the ePrint button on the c ontrol panel. Y ou will see the Web Services Settings menu o n the printer di splay. 2. Select Display Email Address from the printer display to v iew the printer’s email add ress.
Use HP Printables HP Printables, a free service f r om HP, delivers a wide range o f news, recipes, business ti ps, coloring pages, puzzles, personalize d cou pons, and more - di rectly to yo ur web-connecte d p rinter, on your schedule.
Use the HP Connected website Use HP’s free HP Connected websit e to set up inc reased security for HP ePrint, and specify the email addresses that a re allowed to send email to your printer. Yo u can also get product up dates, more HP Printables, an d other free services.

8 Work with cartridges ● Check the estimated ink levels ● Order ink supplies ● Choose right ink cartridges ● Replace the cartridges ● Use single-cartridge mo de ● Cartridge warranty inform.
Check the estimated ink levels You can easily check the i nk supply level to determ ine how soon you might need to re place a cartridge. The ink supply le vel shows an estimate of the amount of ink remaining in the cartri dges.
Order ink supplies Before ordering ca rtridges, lo cate the correct car tridge number . Locate the cartridge n umbe r on the printer ● The cartr idge number is located i nside the cartridge access doo r. Locate the cartridge numbe r in the printer software 1.
Choose right ink cartridges HP recomm ends that you use Orig inal HP ink ca rtridges. O riginal HP ink cartridges a re designed and tested with HP printers to help you easily produce great result s, time after time.
Replace the cartridges To replace t he cartridges 1. Check that power i s on. 2. Remove car tridge. a. Open the cartridge access d oor. Wait for print carriage to move t o the right side of the printe r. b. Lift up the cartridge tab, and then remove it from the slot.
b. Remove plastic tape usin g pink pull tab. c. Place new cartridge in slot at a n angle unde r the ope ned tab, a nd then squeeze the tab closed as the cartridg e slides into place. d. Close the cartridge acce ss door. 4. Load plain p aper and print out th e alignment pag e.
Use single-cartridge mode Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP Officejet 4630 se ries with only one ink cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initi ated when an ink cartridge is rem oved from the ink ca rtridge carriage.
Cartridge warranty information The HP cartridge warranty is app licable whe n the cartridge is u sed in its desig nated HP printing device. This warranty does not c ove r HP ink cartridges that hav e been refilled, remanufa ctured, refurbished, misused, or tampered with.
Tips for working with cartridges Use the fo llowing tips to work with c artridges: ● To protect the cartr idges from drying out, a lways tur n the prin ter off using t he On button, and wait until the On button light goes out. ● Do not open o r untape cartridges until you are read y to install them.

To connect the HP Officejet 46 30 series to a wireless network u s ing Wi-Fi Pr otected S etup (WPS ), you will need t he following: ● A wireless 802.
Traditional wireless connection (requires router) To connect the HP Officejet 46 30 series to an integrated wirele ss WLAN 802.11 netw ork, you will need the follo wing: ● A wireless 802.11b/g/n network t hat inc ludes a wireless router or access point.
NOTE: Only the person who manages you r network can change the ad vance d settings. 1. Press the Wireless button from the printer control pan el, and then select Settings . 2. Scroll to select Adva nced Se ttings . 3. Select the item to be changed from the Advanced Settings menu.
USB connection (non-network connection) The HP Officejet 4 630 s eries supp orts a rea r USB 2.0 High Speed port for con nection to a computer. NOTE: Web services will not be available with a USB direct connection . To conne ct the prin ter with th e USB cable 1.
Change from a USB connection to a wireless network If you first setup your printer a nd installed the software with a USB c able, directly co nnecting th e printer to your computer, you ca n easily ch ange to a wireless n etwork con nection. You will need a wireless 802.
Connect wirelessly to the printer without a router HP wireless direct allows your Wi -Fi devices such as computers , smart phones, and ta blets, to connec t to your pri nter dire ctly through Wi-Fi, u sing the proce ss you currently use t o connect your Wi- Fi device to new wireles s networ ks and hotspots.
Tips for setting up and using a networked printer Use the following tips to set u p and use a networked printer: ● When the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer is launched, the printer searches for wire less routers, and then li sts the dete cted network nam es on the print er display.
Advanced printer management tools (for networked printers) When the printer is connected to a network, you can use the emb edded Web server to view status information, change setti ngs, a nd manage the printer from your computer. NOTE: To view or change some settings , you might need a p assword.

Clear a paper jam Clear a paper jam from the pape r path. To clear a paper j am fro m paper path 1. Open the cartridge a ccess door. 2. Remove the cleanout.

To prevent pape r jams ● Do not overfill th e paper tray. ● Remove printed papers from the pa per tray frequently. ● Ensure t hat paper lo aded in the paper tray la ys flat and t he ed ges are not bent o r torn.
Clear the print carriage Remove a ny objects, such as pa per, that are b locking the print carriage. See Clear a paper jam on p age 86 for more information. NOTE: Do not use an y tools or ot her device s to remove jammed paper. A lways u se caution when removing jammed paper from i nside the printer.
Improve print quality NOTE: To protec t the cartr idges from drying out, always turn the prin ter off u sing the On button, and wait until the On button light goes out. 1. Make sure you are using Ori ginal HP ink cartridges and HP recom me nded papers.

d. Click Print Diagnostic Information on the De vice Reports tab to print a diagnostics page. Review the blue, magenta, yello w, a nd black boxes on the diagno stics page . If you a re seeing streaks in the colo r and black boxes, or no ink in porti ons of the boxes, then automatically clean the cartridges.

● Windows Vista : From the Wind ows Start menu, click Control Panel , and th en click Printers . ● Windows XP : From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel , and then click Printers and Faxes . b. Make sure the correct p rinter is set as the default printer.
