1 1 INST ALLING THE SWITCH Product Descripti on The HP Sures tore FC 1Gb/2 G b Swit ch 16B is a 16-port Fi bre Channel gigabit switch t hat suppor ts link speeds u p to 2 Gbps. Each port automa ticall y negoti ates to the highest common sp eed of all devic es connecte d to the port.
2 Quick Sta rt Guide • The ambient air temper ature ne ar the swit ch must not e xceed 40 degr ees Cels ius. Th is is p ar ticul arly im p orta nt to v er ify if t he sw itch is in stall ed in a clo sed or multi- rack assembly . • The vo lume of ai r flow av ailable to the s witch must be at le ast 300 cu bic feet pe r minute.

6 Quick Sta rt Guide CAUTION For prope r airfl ow , the SFP media side of t he FC 16B faces the rear of the rack. Th is mountin g allo ws air to ent er f rom the front of the r ack and to ex haust at the rea r of the rack, similar to ot her rack- mounted equipment.
Install ing the Switc h 7 – Fo r a Com paq/R ittal r ack, as sembl e each of the two b rackets with (2) spacers , (2) M5 flat washe rs, and (1) M5 T orx head screw with capti ve loc k was h ers as show n in Figure 3 . Note For t he Co mpaq/R itta l rack, th e alig nment pins w ill be restin g on the top surfaces of the spacers.

13 2 SETUP System Componen t s The HP Sures tore FC 1Gb/2Gb Swit ch 16B co nsists of t he following components : • A 1U ch ass is , de si gned to be mounte d i n a 19-inch ra ck, wit h forced-a ir cooling that flows from the p ower supply side of t he switch to the SFP medi a s ide.

The powe r supplies plug into int e rnal blind-mat e connecto rs when installed i n the chassis.
Setup 15 The ports on the SFP media sid e of the FC 1 6B are color -coded in groups with four purple ports a lternat ing with f our unmarked ports to indicate which ports can be used in the same ISL T runking group.

T o turn th e switc h of f, turn off bo th power supplies ( if bot h ar e in stalled) by fli ppi ng e ach AC power swit ch to the “O” p osition.
Setup 17 GBIC optic m odul es. LC to SC cab les or ad apters are r equired t o connect the cabl es together . T o connect an SC cable to th e FC 16B, us e the HP C7540A - 2M LC male - SC ma le cab le ada pter . Connect i nter switch li nks (ISLs) between two FC 16B s witches us ing an LC to LC cable.

From t he term inal e mula to r app lic ation , log o n to th e s witch with administ rative privil eges thr ough the serial connection. The de fault administ rative logon is admin and the default pas sword is password .
