Use the XP A and its templat es to scan: ● photographic neg atives ● 35 mm slides ● other transp arent media up to 127 to 127 mm (5 by 5 inches) in size.

38 Scanning from HP Pre cisionScan Pro Back to TOC Sharpening an image Increasin g sharpening enhanc es det ail in the i ma ge. The HP Preci si onScan Pro software automatic ally select s the optimal sharpen level , but you can change it. Y ou might want to incr ease sharpening i f the image looks fuzzy .

40 Scanning from HP Pre cisionScan Pro Back to TOC C hanging midtones The midtone set ting lets you lighten or darken the mid dle val ues in an image. The range for the number in the Mid tone field is 1.0 to 4.0. Moving toward 1.0 darkens the image. Moving toward 4.
Back to TOC Scanning from HP PrecisionScan Pro 41 C hangin g highlight s The highlight is the value in the image that is repres ented on the screen as white. All val ues l ighter than the highlight also appear as white. The image has a default highl i ght setting.

Back to TOC Scanning from HP PrecisionScan Pro 43 C hecking for clipped areas The light est or d arkest are as of an i mage that wil l print without any detai l in them are known as clipped areas. The lightest areas, or highligh ts, will prin t as the color of the p aper (without ink or toner) and therefor e will have no deta il.
44 Scanning from HP Pre cisionScan Pro Back to TOC Setting pix el output le v els The output levels set ting lets you creat e interesting ef fects for scanned pictures. When you select this command, the Black and White output levels appear . By default, whit e is set to 255, and black is set to 0.

48 Scanning from HP Pre cisionScan Pro Back to TOC Setting which col ors become blac k or white in black & w hit e bit maps This procedur e only applies to col or images that will be using the Black & White Bitmap output type. It allows you to create spe cial eff ects, or to correct for orig inals on col ored p aper .
Back to TOC Scanning from HP PrecisionScan Pro 49 Descreen ing images Use the Descreen co mmand to r educe undesi rable p atterns in print ed items that you are scanning. An exampl e of an undesirable p att ern is a moiré pat ter n, or the circles that oft en appear on pic t ures print ed in newspaper s.

54 Scanning from HP Pre cisionScan Pro Back to TOC Printing The selection area is the part of the image that print s. If there i s no selecti on border , the contents of the enti re scanner bed, includi ng blank areas, pri nt. Printin g does not save the image to the computer .
