This section prov ides basic set up instructions for those knowledg eable in computer equipment installation. W e will refer to specific sections in this manual for more in-depth i nstructions on installation oper ation, and conf igur ation.
Step Instru ctions connect t o port s ass i gned as printer. A l l port s are flexible except as not ed bel ow (i.e. , ports m ay be configured as com put er or printer).
Step Instru ctions A. Serial Ports Serial ports on Print Mast er are DCE. Therefore, straight c abling is requi red between the com put er's seri al port and Print Mast er' s serial port . A strai ght cable is al s o required between Print Mast er' s serial port and t he serial port of a printer or pl ot t er.
Step Instru ctions To print from a serial port of your PC, you m ust f irst redi rec t the parallel out put to the serial port vi a t he DOS com m and C:>MODE LPTx:=COMy:, where x and y are the port designat i on (e.
After opening the box , check the packing list that comes w ith Print Master to ensure that y ou have receiv ed all components. Also check the unit to make certain that i t did not receiv e damage during shipping.
To run INSTALL, use the follow ing procedure: 1. Insert the sof tware utility diskette into d rive A (or drive B) and from the prompt type INSTA LL follow ed by <ENTER>. 2. A menu titled "D riv e & Directory D efinitions" wi ll appear on your screen.
The Print Master requir es 115 VAC, 50/60 Hz. power and comes with a three-prong power cord. Do not attempt to operate the uni t with a two- prong socket or adapter. 230 VAC, 50/60 Hz . is optional. The Print Master power s-up w hen you press the pow er switch on the back of the unit to "ON" or "1".
This section prov ides instructions on how to set up your PC to wor k with Pr int Master with r espect to the BayTech sof tware (if you intend to use it) and special considerations w hen connecting your PC in serial.
You w ill also need to change the serial port conf iguration of your PC's com port to match that of the Print Master. If using the Print Master's factory default serial configuration, thi s is accompli shed vi a the DOS command C:>MODE C OMy: 9600, N , 8,1,P where y is the number of the appropriate com port.
Please see Section 5.1 for parallel por t cabling i nf ormation, Section 5.2 for DB-25 serial port cabling information, or Section 5.3 for RJ-4 5 cabling. Appendix A provi des recommended cabling pinouts. Parallel por ts on Print Master have D B-25 female connectors.
IMPORTA NT: Bef ore you pr oceed with cabling, you must know whether the dev ices that you will connect to Print Master are DTE (Data Termi nal Equipment) or D CE (D ata Communication Equipment). The following devices are g enerally DTE: terminals, printers, and computer s like the IBM PC.
DTE ports use the followi ng signals for communication: DTE PORT PIN/ S IGNA L DE FINITION Pin Signal (EIA-232) Di rection Description 1 PGND --- Protect ive Ground 2 Tx O ut put Data Out 3 Rx Input Data In 4 RTS Output Request To S end 5 CTS Input Clear To Send: Input hands hake line.

!" #$ The EIA-232 serial ports of the Print Master M odels 706C, 708C, or 710C may have RJ-45 modular connectors.
Figure 4: RJ-45 Receptacle Figure 5: RJ-45 Plug Please see Appendix A.5 for modular adapter pi nout and cabling information. This section discusses the v arious user-prog rammable configurations ( Section 6.1 ), printer sharing operation ( Section 6.
#%# Indivi dual ports on Print Master may be conf igured as computer or printer v ia the Number of Printers/Port Assi gnment.
# To select a printer i n multiple printer appli cations, the computer sends the Printer Sel ect Code (w hich consists of any ASCII character str ing numbering from one to ei ght characters ) f ollow ed by the desired printer por t number.
# NOTE: This section is not appl icable to the 706A or 708A model s. Print Master will translate for seria l devices using dif fe re nt configurations.
" ## You may conf igur e Print Master to pri nt a progr ammable message and the logical name of the source computer on a separate sheet of paper before printi ng any other data.
Please see the table below f o r a quick reference to the printer shar ing operating procedure. PRINTER SHARING QUICK REFERE NCE Item See Section Sharing a si ngl e pri nt er 6.2.1 Specif i ed s haring of m ultiple printers 6.2. 2 Contending for m ultipl e pri nt ers 6.

There are tw o modes f or sending the Printer Sel ect Code. In Printer Select Mode 2 (pr inter selection any time while pr inting), Print M aster looks for the Printer Sel ect Code any ti me. If no Printer Select C ode is received, the da ta will be routed to th e defa ult printer.
W hen a user sends a print job, the data is stored i n Print Master's spooling buffer (1 MB standar d, avail able with 2 MB on 700C, 700D and 700E models; avai lable with up to 4 MB on 700A model s).
4. The computer sends the Pri nter Select Code followed by a printer por t number. If the port number is the same number as that of the current print job, this will indicate the end of the current print job, and the next print job w ill be routed to the same printer.
If you wi sh to clear a print job is sent in er ror, you must send the clear buffer sequence whic h consists of the Printer Sel ect Code followed by CLR . This command will only affect print jobs originated by your computer.
" # BayTech provides utility sof tware which allows y ou to convenien tly select between per ipherals for IBM DOS and Micr osof t W indows applications. Por t selection is as easy as activ ating hot keys or by using a mouse.
Progr ams such as W ord Perfect and W ordStar typi cally send a printer initiali zation string before any data. You may imbed the port sel ect sequence in this string to sel ect a printer. For exampl e, W ord Perfect allow s you to edit the printer definiti on f ile for a specific printer by using the PTR command.
It is still possible to plot dynam ically through Print Maste r if required . W hen plotting in this fashion, y ou would probably need to increase the input inactiv ity timeout v alue to a higher number than f a ctory default (20 seconds).
### COMPUTER-TO-PRINT MA STER-TO-PRINTER COMMUNICA TION W hen a computer t.
