T wo types of seat s may be used: a seat designed e x clusiv e ly f or inf ant s, or a conve rtible s e at use d in the r ear- f ac i ng, re c lining mode. If pla ced f ac i ng f orw ard, a n inf ant could be ver y seriously injur e d during a f ront al collision.
If it is neces s ar y to put a f orwa rd- f ac i ng child s e a t in t h e f r o nt , move the ve hi cle s eat as f a r to the rear as possible, be sure the c hi ld seat is f irmly se cur ed t o the v e hicle, a n d t he child is properly str apped in t he seat .
What ever type of seat you ch oose, to prov ide proper pr o t ection, a child seat shoul d meet t h ree requir e ment s: L ook f or FMV SS 213 or CMVSS 213 on the box.
A child seat secured w i th a sea t belt should be insta lled as f ir mly as possi ble. Ho wever, it does no t need t o be ‘‘rock solid.’’ Some side-t o -side moveme nt can be expect ed and should not reduce the c h ild seat ’s ef f ectiveness.
Y our vehic l e is e quipped wit h LATC H (Lo w e r An c h o r s a n d Tethe rs f o r C hi l d re n ) at th e o u ter rear s eats. The l ower an cho rs are located between t h e seat-back a n d seat bot tom, and a re to be used only wit h a child sea t designed f or use with LA TCH.
