If you have been w atching the TV in y our home before getti ng the VCR, y ou will already have a round w ire attached to your TV. Otherwise, look for a cable connection coming in through the w all from outside. ( If you find this connection, remember to cal l your l ocal cable company to start the ser vice.

avail able. This VCR uses VHS tapes onl y, w hich are the most common ty pe. Look for the VHS mark on new or prerecor ded tapes you buy. Tapes are marked either T-120 or T-160, whi ch signifies how many minutes of programming they can hold at standar d recording speed ( SP).
Push the videocassette g ently into the slot on the front of the VCR. You will feel the VCR take it in. W hen the cassette is all the w ay in, the VC R powers up automatically and a TAPE-IN indicator show s on the display . It may also star t playing immediately if the safety tab has been remov ed.
1. Insert the cassette, arrow -side forw ard, into the slot at the front of the VCR. The pow er comes on automatically and the tape indicator l ights on the display. 2. Turn on the TV and select the video channel (3 or 4) using the number buttons of the TV's remote control.
W hen you are done w atching a v ideo, you can r ewind the tape automati cally or manually. If the video cassette reaches the end of the tape, the VCR will stop and automatically rew inds the video cassette. If you pr ess POW ER while the tape is rew inding, the pow er will shut off automatically after the tape has completely rewound.
Use the 1 or 4 button to mi nimize any visual noise bands on the screen. After 5 minutes in slow motion playback, the VCR w ill stop the tape automatically to prev ent damage to the tape and the VCR. To return to playback at a nor mal speed, press PLAY.
screen: This indicates that the counter 's memory function is eng aged. Now w hen you rew ind the tape, it will automatically stop at the spot where you clear ed the counter. (Notice i t moves just past the mark er and then back to it.) Press PLAY to watch the tape from that preselected spot.
If this is the prog ram you w ere looking for, press PLAY to resume normal playback. If this is not the prog ram you w ant, don't press anything . After 15 seconds, the VCR will move to the nex t mark and play a part of that program. The VCR will continue searching until you press STOP or reach the end of the tape.
5. To begin recordi ng, press REC on the r emote control or REC /IRT on the VCR. Recording will start unless the ca sse tte is protected with the safety tab. If this tab has been removed, the VCR will eject the tape to prev ent recording ov er what is there.

Let's say y ou were i nterview ed today by a local TV reporter. Y ou're eager to see yoursel f on the evening new s tonight. The new s comes on channel 8 at 6 0'clock - but y ou've got a meeting scheduled during that time. Luckily y ou just purchased this H itachi VCR.
If the overlapping progr ams start at the same time, the VCR recor ds in order that they w ere progr ammed. If the shows are all schedul ed to start at 7 AM, the VCR starts w ith the first prog ram at 7 AM, and sw itches to what remai ns of the second program w hen the first prog ram is done recor ding, and so on.
Turn the televisi on on (any channel i s okay). Aim the VCR's r emote control at your TV set. Hold down the TV button (not the VCR/TV button) w hile y ou press the number corr esponding to your brand of televisi on as shown in the char t (page 41).
Controll i ng the TV Once progr ammed, the VCR's remote control is ready to contr ol the TV. First press TV to chang e to the TV f unction mode, then pr ess the button of the TV function that you want. For example, press TV and the CHANNEL up arrow, and the TV station will change to the nex t higher station.
If you don't have a di rect video connecti on - the one using the audio/v ideo cable - make sure the TV channel is set to 3 or 4 when y ou play back a tape. Consult the cable company or the cable conv erter manual for assistance in using the VCR w ith a cable converter.
Check all the TV and VCR functions. If you don't g et all the functions you want, pr oceed with Option 3. Option 3--Some Channels Scrambled This hookup requir es three coaxial jumpers w ith connectors, a 1-into- 2 splitter, and an A- or-B swi tch box.

Connect the left and rig ht AUDIO OUT on the stereo to the rig ht and left AUDIO IN on the VCR. The AUDIO IN (l eft) on the front of the VCR handles the left-channel or monaural sound. If you connect an audio sour ce only to AUD IO IN (left), both left and right hi-fi tracks record as m onaural.
Consider VC R1 the recording VC R, and VCR2 (VT-F390A) the play-back VCR. You w ill play a tape on VCR2 and record it on VCR1. To begin copying : Insert the vi deotape you w ish to record in VCR2. Insert a blank or er asable tape (wi th the safety tab intact) into VCR 1.
Routine Cleaning Head Cleaning The heads are tiny mechani sms in the VCR that pi ck up the video signal as a videotape passes ov er them. In time, a resi due of electromagnetic dust builds up on the heads because of contact w ith the tape. This dust interferes with the si gnal being picked up.
