2 SAFETY POINTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOUR HIT ACHI TELEVISION Our reputation has been built on the quality , performance, and ease of service of HIT ACHI televisions.
Power source This television is designed to operate on 120 volts 60 Hz, ac current. Insert the power cor d into a 120 volt 60 Hz outlet. The power cord is used as the disconnect device and shall remain r eadily operable.
4 Accessories Check to make sure you have the following accessories befor e disposing of the packing material. CAUTION: This SLF10 TV T op Shelf for use only with Hitachi 51F710G and 57F710G. Use with other apparatus is capable of resulting in instability causing possible injury .
5 How to set up your new HIT ACHI Pr ojection T elevision ANTENNA Unless your TV is connected to a cable TV system or to a centralized antenna system, a good outdoor TV antenna is recommended for best performance.
6 Most video/audio connections between components can be made with shielded video and audio cables that have phono connectors. For best performance, video cables should use 75-Ohm coaxial shielded wire. Cables can be purchased fr om most stores that sell audio/video pr oducts.
7 Quick Refer ence Remote Control Buttons and Functions First time use POWER BUTTON (TV , CBL, VCR, DVD, SA T) T ur ns the selected device on and off. INPUTS BUTTON (TV) Accesses the INPUTS menu system. ASPECT BUTTON (TV) Changes the aspect ratio while watching TV .
8 Fr ont Panel Controls First time use MENU/SELECT button This button allows you to enter the MENU , making it possible to set TV features to your pr eference without using the remote. This button also serves as the SELECT button when in MENU mode.
9 Fr ont Panel Jacks and Connections First time use The front panel jacks ar e provided as a convenience to allow you to easily connect a camcor der or VCR as shown in the following examples: NOTE: 1. Completely insert connection cord plugs when connecting to front panel jacks.
10 Rear Panel Connections First time use Antenna Input CABLE – A 75-Ohm RF antenna or CA TV (Cable TV) input. AIR – A 75-Ohm RF antenna input. NOTE: Y ou may ask your local cable company whether DTV services are available.
TV AS CENTER (INPUTS 1-4) These jacks are for ster eo amplifiers with center signal output capability . This feature allows the TV speakers to be used as a center speaker . The TV must be set as a center channel by selecting TV AS CENTER on the Internal Speakers Settings of the Audio Menu (see page 36).
12 TIPS ON REAR P ANEL CONNECTIONS • S-VIDEO , Y- P B P R and HDMI connections are pr ovided for high performance laserdisc players, VCRs etc. that have this feature. Use these connections in place of the standard video connection if your device has this feature.
Match the numbers below to the diagram for speaker placement. The television’ s internal speakers will act as center speaker (select AUDIO - INTERNAL SPEAKERS - TV AS CENTER ). These FRONT left and right speakers are connected to the FRONT output of a separate audio amplifier .
14 BEFORE OPERA TING EXTERNAL VIDEO SOURCE Connect an external source to the INPUT terminal, then press the INPUTS button to show the INPUTS menu. Use the CURSOR P AD to select the CABLE, AIR or INPUT of your choice. Then press the SELECT button to confirm your choice (see page 21).
15 Connecting Exter nal V ideo Sour ces First time use CONNECTING A COMPOSITE VIDEO AND A STEREO AUDIO SOURCE TO INPUT1 – INPUT5 1. Connect the cable from the VIDEO OUT of the VCR or the laserdisc player to the INPUT (VIDEO) jack, as shown on the TV to the right.
CONNECTING A COMPONENT SOURCE WITH HDMI OR DVI CAP ABILITY TO INPUT 1 1. Connect the HDMI or DVI to HDMI connection cable from the output of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the HDMI input as shown on the TV to the right.
CONNECTING A COMPONENT AND AN AUDIO SOURCE TO INPUT 3 OR 4: Y -P B P R . 1. Connect the cable from the Y OUT of the Laserdisc/DVD player or HDTV set top box to the INPUT (Y) jack, as shown on the TV to the right. 2. Connect the cable from the C B /P B OUT or B-Y OUT of the Laserdisc/DVD player or HDTV set top box to the INPUT (P B ) jack.
18 In addition to controlling all the functions on your HIT ACHI Projection TV , the new remote control is designed to operate differ ent types of VCRs, CA TV (Cable TV) converters, set-top-boxes, satellite receivers (SA T) and DVD players with one touch.
POWER button Press this button to turn the TV set on or off when the remote is in TV mode. (See page 20 for instructions on how to set the remote contr ol to TV mode.) MODE buttons These buttons allow the remote to contr ol your TV , VCR, DVD, Cable box/Satellite box depending on which button is pressed.
20 ASPECT button Press this button to quickly change the pictur e format ASPECT ratio. Depending on the input signal format received, the pictur e format ratio allows you to adjust the images through the following options.
INPUTS button When the remote contr ol is in TV mode, press this button to access the INPUTS menu. Use the CURSOR and SELECT buttons to scroll and select the inputs that are being used. Pr essing the INPUTS button repeatedly will also cycle thr ough the Inputs menu items.
22 VOLUME (VOL), MUTE button Press the VOLUME button ( or ) until you obtain the desired sound level. T o reduce the sound to one half of normal volume (SOFT MUTE) to answer the telephone, etc., press the MUTE button. Press the MUTE button again to turn the sound off completely (MUTE).
Y our HIT ACHI Projection TV incorporates T wo T uner technology designed for improved viewing enjoyment. This T wo T uner feature allows you to view antenna inputs on both the main picture and sub-pictur e simultaneously , with separate tuning control for each.
24 PIP Mode Picture-in-Pictur e This feature is only available with a Digital 16:9, 720p and 1080i signal. T o prevent a pattern burn, occasionally move the sub-picture using the CURSOR buttons. SPLIT Mode Picture-in-Pictur e Split Mode PIP displays the main picture and sub- picture evenly on the scr een.
P AUSE button If you wish to freeze the sub-pictur e, press the P AUSE button. This is convenient when trying to write down the address for a mail or der company , recor ding statistics for a sporting event, etc. T o return the picture to motion, pr ess the EXIT button.
26 OPERA TING THE PRECODED FUNCTION FOR YOUR CABLE BOX. This remote is designed to operate dif ferent types of cable boxes. Y ou must first program the r emote to match the remote system of your cable box (r efer below for pre-codes). 1. T ur n ON your cable box.
OPERA TING THE PRECODED FUNCTION FOR YOUR SET -TOP-BOX/SA TELLITE RECEIVER. This remote is designed to operate dif ferent types of set-top-box/satellite systems. Y ou must first program the remote to match the r emote system of your set- top-box/satellite systems (refer below for pr e-codes).

Picture Mode Select between the two picture modes; Day and Night. Contrast Adjust contrast. Brightness Adjust brightness. Color Adjust color . Tint Adjust tint.
32 Select VIDEO to adjust picture settings and impr ove picture quality . Y ou can independently customize each of the Video Inputs to your pr eference to incr ease viewing performance and pleasure depending upon the video program being viewed. If RESET is selected, only the selected input will reset to initial conditions.
Color T emperature Set this to High for cooler color with more blue, set to Medium for mor e natural color , set to Standard for accurate color or set to Black/White for more r eddish color . Black Enhancement Use this function to enhance Picture brightness in light scenes using the settings of f, low , middle and high.
34 Black Side Panel The BLACK SIDE P ANEL function turns the gray side bars on/off when watching 4:3 signals in Standard mode. The top/bottom gray bar will appear in SPLIT MODE PIP and SPLIT FREEZE. The TV set will always r eturn to “Set Black Side Panel - OFF” setting every time the TV is powered “OFF”.
Select AUDIO to adjust the TV to your prefer ence and to improve the sound quality . 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the function to be adjusted. 2. Press the CURSOR buttons or to adjust the function. 3. Press EXIT to quit the menu or select AUDIO to return to the main menu.
36 Audio Source Multi-Channel T elevision Sound will allow you to select STEREO (a stereo br oadcast), MONO (monaural sound) used when receiving a weak ster eo broadcast or SECOND AUDIO PROG (SA) which may be a secondary language, weather report, etc.
Use the functions below if your TV is connected to an amplifier/receiver with OPTICAL DIGIT AL INPUT with Dolby Digital or PCM decoder capabilities. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the function to be adjusted. 2. Press the CURSOR buttons or to adjust the function.
38 Select CHANNEL MANAGER to set your Antenna options, run Auto Channel Scan, Check Signal Meter and Set Channel List. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the function to be adjusted. 2. Press the SELECT button or CURSOR button to select.
Auto Channel Scan This feature will automatically stor e active TV channels in Auto Channel Scan memory . 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight CABLE or AIR . 2. Press the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the ST ART or RESET option. 3.
40 This function will block out the picture and sound of the selected channel or video input. It can also be used to keep the TV from being viewed for a scheduled time period that you set. The code to enter the Locks feature is a four digit access code number .
Movie Ratings Use Movie Ratings to prevent viewing of any movie that you feel may be inappropriate due to its content. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to select the MOVIE RA TING category that you want to block. 2. Press SELECT to block the MOVIE RA TING that you have selected.
42 Locks On-Screen Display TV Ratings Use TV RA TINGS to prevent the viewing of any TV program that you feel may be inappr opriate due to its content. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to select the TV RA TING category that you want to block. 2. Press SELECT to block the TV RA TING that you have selected.
Canadian Ratings (Eng) Use CANADIAN RA TINGS (ENG) to block any type of movie and television program in Canada that you feel might be inappropriate in its content. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to select the CANADIAN RA TINGS (ENG) category that you want to block.
44 Canadian Ratings (Frn) Use CANADIAN RA TINGS (FRN) to block Canadian French pr ograms according to various pr ogram ratings that you feel might be inappropriate in its content. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to select the CANADIAN RA TINGS (FRN) category that you want to block.
Select TIMERS to set your Clock, Sleep Timer , Event Timer and Day/Night Timer Recordings. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the function to be adjusted. 2. Press the SELECT button or CURSOR button to select. Set The Clock The Clock must be adjusted before you can use the SET EVENT TIMER or DA Y/NIGHT TIMER feature.
46 Set Sleep Timer Select this feature to set your SLEEP TIMER fr om 30 minutes to 3 hours (30 minute increments). 1. Press the CURSOR buttons or repeatedly to set your Timer from 0:00 , 0:30 , 1:00 , 1:30 , 2:00 , 2:30 and 3:00 .
47 Timers On-Screen Display Set Event Timer This function will automatically operate the Projection TV viewing reservation of a pr ogram. If the clock is not set, you can not use this function and the screen below will appear .
48 Select SETUP when setting your TV up for the first time. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the function to be adjusted. 2. Press the SELECT button or CURSOR button to select. Magic Focus T une Up Auto Digital Convergence Adjustment Please turn ON your television for at least 20 minutes before using this featur e.
NOTE: 1. Only a momentary press of the MAGIC FOCUS button is necessary to start AUTO DIGIT AL CONVERGENCE . At any time during this convergence correction process, you may press the MAGIC FOCUS button to exit the MAGIC FOCUS mode. However , the convergence correction process needs to be completed to SAVE the new corrected convergence data.
50 Setup On-Screen Display Manual Convergence Adjustment Mode (9 Point Manual Adjustment) NOTE: 1. Please turn ON your television for at least 20 minutes before using this feature. 2. AUTO ADJUSTMENT MODE is recommended. If convergence is still not acceptable, use the MANUAL ADJUSTMENT MODE.

52 Menu Prefer ence This feature will allow you to select any one of thr ee differ ent languages for all on-screen displays. Set the Language This function allows you to choose from thr ee menu languages. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the language of your choice.
INPUT 4 Auto Link Use this function to automatically turn the TV on and tune to INPUT 4 when it detects a video signal to INPUT 4 . 1. Use the CURSOR buttons or to highlight the AUTO LINK setting of your choice. 2. When AUTO is selected, the TV will tur n on and tune to INPUT 4 automatically , when the INPUT 4 input device is turned on.
54 Setup On-Screen Display Digital Captions Set captions for digital programs. This function will help choose and set available language, font, size and style of digital captions. 1. Use the CURSOR buttons , , or to highlight and select DIGIT AL CAPTIONS feature.
Upgrades It shows software information and easy upgrade procedur e. This function allows the TV software to be upgraded by using a flash card (MMC CARD). If a future softwar e upgrade is requir ed for your TV , HIT ACHI will notify and provide you with a flash car d.

STEP 4 Remove the sensor box by unscrewing the 2 scr ews located on both sides of the sensor box, see (a). Rotate the sensor box and there ar e 4 low voltage connectors located on the sensor board, see (b). Disconnect the connector with the brown wir es (PDSE), see (c) and (d).
