1 Introduction The APC Sm art-UPS® RT is a high-perf ormance, unin terruptible pow er supply (UPS) th at provides protection for electron ic equipment f rom utility power blackouts, brownou ts, sags and surges.
2 Hardwiring Wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician. 1. Install a utility circuit breaker in accordance with local electrical codes (see tables belo w) for input wi ring. 2. Switch the UPS input circuit breaker (see A ) and utility circuit breakers OFF.
3 7. XLI model only: For three-phase in put, set the Input Phase Selector switch (see C ) to ‘3 ’. F or single-phase inp ut, leave switch in default po sition of ‘1’. 8. Switch the circuit breakers ON. 9. Check l ine vo lta ges. 10. Replace th e access panel.

5 C ONNECTING P OWER AND E QUIPMENT TO THE UPS 1. Hardwire the UPS (see Hardwiring ). 2. Connect equi pment to the UPS (cables not included for XLT/XLJ/XLTW m odels). 3. Turn on all conn ected equipment. To use the UPS as a master on/off sw itch, be sure that all connected equ ipment is switched ON.
6 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS Serial Port Power management s oftware and interface kits can be used with the UPS. Use only interface ki ts supp lied or approved by APC.
7 O PERA TION F RONT D ISPLAY P ANEL Indicator Description Online The UPS is draw ing ut ility power an d performing dou ble conv ersion to supply power to conn ected equipment (see Tr oubleshooting ). On Battery The UPS is supplying battery power to the conn ected equipment.
8 Feature Function Normal /B ypass Manually switch connected equip ment to bypass mode, so that utility power is sent directly to connected equipment. Battery operation is not available while the UPS is in bypass mode. (See Tr oubleshooting. ) Cold Start This is not a normal conditio n.

11 EPO (Emerge ncy Power Off) O ption The output pow er can be disabled in an emergen cy b y closing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to national and local elect rical codes when wiring. The switch should be connected in a nor mally open switch contact.
12 Terminal Mode to Configure UPS Paramet ers Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables enhanced conf iguration of the UPS. Connect the serial cable to the serial port on the back of th e UP S.
13 M AI N T E N AN C E , S ERVICE , W ARR AN T Y , AN D T R A NSPO RTING Replacing the Battery Module(s) This UPS has easy to replace, h ot-swappable battery modu les. Replacement is a safe procedu re, isolated from electrical hazards. You may leave the UPS and connected equipm ent on during the procedure.
14 T ROUBLESHOOTING Use the table below to solve minor installation and op eration problems. Refer to the AP C Web site, www.apc.com for assistan ce with complex UPS problems. P ROBLEM AND P OSSI BLE C AUSE S OLUTION UPS WILL NOT TURN ON Batt eries a re not connec ted properly .
