Getting Started Hello, and w elc ome to Final Vinyl, st er eo r ecor ding and editing softwar e fr om Griffin. Final Vinyl was originall y cr eated f or use with Griffin iMic, to mak e it easier to digitize your r ecor d coll ection. But iMic and Final Vinyl have many mor e uses, besides.
iMic Setup Plug your audio devic e into iMic’ s In jack, and plug iMic into an unused USB port on your c omputer . iMic has a sel ector switch on the side; for mos t turntabl es, this switch should be set to MIC l evel. If y our device has its own pr eamp, switch to Line.

Final Vinyl Contr ols 1. Zoom Slider: Allo ws you to zoom in and out of the r ecor ded waveform, t o view it in mor e or l ess detail f or editing and placing marks. 2. Playthr ough/Monitor Button: Allo ws you to hear the audio that is coming int o Final Vinyl, whether or not you ar e actuall y r ecor ding it.
Rec or ding fr om a T urntabl e T o make the audio sound normal, many turntabl es need a special filter setting, known as the “RIAA Curve.” Y our old home ster eo’ s turntabl e input had a special equalization cir cuit built into it (r emember when ster eos had “Phono” inputs?).
Rec or ding and Monitoring Audio Y ou’r e r eady to start r ecor ding with Final Vinyl. Y ou may use any audio devic e you choose; her e, we use a turntabl e as an e xample. 1. Pr ess the Rec or d button; Final Vinyl will st art r ecor ding. If you wish to monitor the inc oming audio, click the “Playthr ough/ Monitor” button.
Playing Back Audio Y ou will know when Final Vinyl is r eady to play back your r ecor ding when the wavef orm is visible in the window . 1. T o play the r ecor ding, pr es s the Play button (or pr ess the spac e bar on your k eyboar d). Y ou can use the Zoom slider to view the wav eform in gr eater detail.
Mor e About EQ Settings The sliders in the EQ window l et you set the bas s, tr ebl e, and mid-range to c ontr ol the way your music sounds. The Gain slider at the far right of the EQ window will incr ease or decr ease the ov erall volume within a range of +/- 20dB.
Adding and Removing Eff ects Final Vinyl allo ws you to add multipl e effects t o your r ecor ding. 1. Click the ”+” button and choose the eff ect you wish to add. Y ou can add as many as y ou want, going back and forth among them and changing settings to get the best pos sibl e sound.
AU Eff ects In the pr ovided Eff ects list, you will see many names pr eceded by “ AU.” Audio Units (AU) ar e a set of Appl e-designed plug-ins pr ovided by Cor e Audio in Mac OS X.
Other Action Menu Items 1. Auto Mark: This is a function that plac es marks in sil ent ar eas of your r ecor ding, such as the spaces between songs. This pr ovides an easy, automatic way to separ ate your r ecor ding into multipl e tracks.
Using Auto Mark: Configuration If you have r ecor ded an entir e album as one waveform, you may want t o save the tracks as separ ate fil es. Position the time tracking cur sor wher e you want a split to oc cur, and pr ess the “Insert Mark er” button.
Using Auto Mark: Saving Individual T racks So, you’ve r ecor ded one side of an album and want to save jus t one song (or r egion). If you have set marks to split up y our r ecor ding, you can sav e a single mark ed ar ea (instead of the entir e r ecor ding) by selecting “Sav e T rack (.
Importing/Exporting Fil es Final Vinyl can r ead and write many of the most popular fil e formats. 1. Importing: If you have a fil e that does not show up as one that Final Vinyl can “open,” dir ectly, you will lik el y be able t o “import” it, instead.
