1 Introduction This guide will help you get your hard ware and software installed. Use the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center to acce ss the comprehensive help system, generate a problem report, and get the software version information .

3 Inst alling the Graphics Card This topic guides you through the instal lati on of the graphics card. Before Y ou Begin Before you begin inst alling the graphics card, do the followi ng. • Record the Serial and Part Numb ers on p a ge 3. • Uninstall Old Graphics Drivers on p age 4.
4 Uninst all Old Graphics Drivers To ensure successful instal lation of the graphics card driver, u ninstall th e graphic drivers for the existing graphics card before rem oving the graphics card from the computer.
5 Inst all the Graphics Card 1 Make sure the computer , m onit or, and other peripheral devices are off. 2 Unplug the computer power cord a nd disconnect cables from the back of the computer .
6 9 Reconnect any cables you have di sconnected, connect the monitors, and then plug in the computer and mo nitor power cords. 10 T urn on the monitor and then the computer . 7 Inst alling and Configuring Displays Connections The following ill ustrates some common connections on th e ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series graphics cards. The connections available may vary by model. 8 Sample 2: ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series Connections Adapters The following illustrates the adapters you can use to connect the graphics card to other di splay devices.
9 Supported Display Connections To ensure the highest po ssible perf ormance, only one displ a y devi ce is supported when Cro s sFire™ is active. When CrossFire™ is active other display devices connected to the other connections on both graphics cards are rendered inactive.
10 Inst alling and Configuring Displays Connect the monit or 1 Make sure the computer and monitor are of f. 2 Plug the m onitor cables into their appropriate connectors. 3 Power on the monito rs first and then restart that computer so that W indows® can detect the new hardware setti ngs.
11 4 Choose a refresh rate from the drop-down list. Caution! Choosing a refresh rate unsupported by your display may damage your displ ay . Consult your display ’ s documentation if necessary . 5 Click OK to return to the desktop. Once you have configured the main di sp lay you can configure any other displays that are connected.

15 A TI Cat alyst™ Control Center The ATI Catalyst™ Control Center is software that provides access to the display features of the graphics card. Use the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center to fine-tune your graphics settings, enable or di sab le connected display devices, and change the orien tati on of the desk top.

18 V iewing T ext on a TV A TV is designed primarily t o show moving images. The l arge dot pitch of a TV will yield poo r quality static im ages. The small text sizes commonly used for PC desktops can appear bl urred or u nclear on a TV. You can compensate for this degradat ion by using larger fonts.
19 Note: For maximum perform ance when wat ching DVD movies or playing computer games on the TV , find the mode and screen resolution that provide the best resu lt, an d use those settings exclusively . 20 HDMI™-to-HDMI™ connectors 3 Connect the DVI-to-HDMI™ adapter to the DVI connection on the graphics card. 4 Connect one end of the HDMI™-to-HDMI™ cable to the DVI-to- HDMI™ adapter . Connect the othe r end of the HDMI™-to-HDMI™ cable to the HDMI™ connect ion on the HDMI™ HDTV .

23 3 Set the A TI H DTV Component V ideo A dapter DIP switches. Configure the DIP switches to set t he appropriate di splay mode and aspect ratio. This sets the modes which appear when you select Show all Modes in the A TI Control Panel. a) Set the disp lay mo de Note: DIP switch 3 is always off (540p is not supported).
24 5 Matching the colors on the connections, connect on e end of th e RCA patch cables to the A TI DVI-to-HDTV component video adapter . Connect the other end of the RCA patch cables to the componen t video connections on the HDTV . 6 Connect one end of a sound cable to the computer sound card.
25 S-Video to Component Vi deo (using the ATI 9-Pin HDTV Output Cable) 3 Attach the A TI 9-Pin HDTV Output Cable to the S-V ideo connection on the graphics card. 4 Matching the colors on the connectors, connect one end of the RCA patch cables to th e A TI 9-Pin HDTV output cable.

27 3 Connect the S-V ideo connector on the composit e video cable to the S-V ideo connection on the graphics card. C onnect the other end of the composite video cable to either the S-V ide o or composite video connection on the composite video dev ice.
28 Connect to a Europea n video device (S-V ideo to SCART using composite video adapter) 1 Before connecting a European vi deo devi ce, attach a monitor and install the video dri vers.
29 3 If the video device accepts P AL inpu t, you must change the NTSC/ P AL setting on the video card to P AL. NTSC is the TV standard used in North America. P AL is the TV st andard for m ost of Europe, Africa, Asia, Japan, South Korea, and the Philipines.
30 Capturing V ideo Some versions of the ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series graphics card can capture video from a camcorder, VCR, or TV. Use a video editing application to add effects, make ch anges, or stream the video on the Internet.
31 Connecting a media device for video captu re Use a video in/video out cable to connect the S-Vide o connecti on on th e graphics card to the S-Video connect ion on a TV, VCR, or camcorder. Capture video to a computer 1 Connect one end of the cable to the S-V ideo connection on th e graphics card.

39 6 Align your A TI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series graphics card in the secondary PCIe™ slot next to the exi s ting A TI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series graphics card and press firmly until the ca rd is fully seated. 7 Install the CrossFi re™ bridge interconnects.

44 Screen defects appear • Check if the monitor supports the resolution, horizontal (kHz) and vertical (Hz) refresh rates as required by the graphics card. • Check the current resolution, refresh rate, and color depth settings in the Settings and Monitor tabs in the Display Properties dialog.
45 CrossFire™-Specific T roubleshooting Problem Possible solution CrossFire™ is not function ing In order for CrossFire™ to function, the CrossFire™ bridge interconnects must correctly connect the CrossFire™ graphics cards. 1. Connect one end of the CrossF ire™ bridge interconnect to the internal VMO connection on one of the cards.
46 Determine the System Card Bus T ype There are two possible card bus types, AGP and PCIe™. If you h ave an AGP card you may need to update th e motherboard and chipset drivers. 1 Look at the motherboard and card. 2 Using the ill ustration below for comparis on, determine w hether you have AGP or PCIe™ connectors.
47 AGP and PCIe™ graphics cards and system bus connectors 3 If you have AGP connectors and the graphics card is not work ing correctly , you may need to updat e the motherboard and chipset drivers for the computer . 49 Reinst alling Drivers You can install new drivers or reinst all existing drivers if there was a Windows® conflict. Reinstall the drivers at any time using the ATISETUP utility located on the ATI installation CD.
