4 I NTRODUCTION Y our cordless telephone/answering mac hine with Caller ID and Call W aiting is designed to gi ve you flexibility in use and high quality performance. T o get the most from your new cordless telephone/answering mac hine, we suggest that you take a few minutes right now to read through this instruction manual.
5 B EFORE Y OU B EGIN P ARTS C HECKLIST Make sure your pac k age includes the items shown here. M ODULAR J ACK R EQUIREMENTS Y ou need an RJ1 1 type modular phone jac k, whic h is the most common type of phone jac k and might look lik e the one pictured here.
6 D ESKTOP I NST ALLA TION 1 . Remo ve the bat tery compar tment door on the handset, inser t the bat tery pac k, plug the cord into the jac k (inside the compar tment), and replace the compar tment door . 2. Set the RINGER switc h (on the handset) to ON, and place the handset in the cradle on the base.

R emove the bat tery compar tment door on the handset, inser t the bat tery pac k, plug the cord into the jac k (inside the compar tment), and replace the compar tment door . 2. Set the RINGER switc h (on the handset) to ON and place the handset in the cradle on the base.
8 4. Remo ve the handset from the cradle and set aside. T urn the base over and align the four slots on the bottom of the base with the four hook- tabs on the mounting brac k et. 5. Inser t the hook-tabs into the slots and push upw ards until the mounting brac k et snaps securely into place.
9 A NSWERING M ACHINE S ETUP This section shows you how to set up your answering mac hine to receive incoming calls. Before you begin the setup, you must turn on the answering mac hine. • P ress the answer on/off but ton to turn the answering mac hine on and of f .
10 S ETTING THE V OICE T IME /D AY S T AMP 1 . Make sure the answering mac hine is ON. 2. Press and hold the day/c hec k but ton to set the day of the week. 3. Press the hour but ton to set the hour (a.m. or p.m.). 4. Press the min button to set the minute.
11 Sample Outgoing Announcement Hi, this is (use your name her e), I can't answer the phone right now , so please leave your name, number and a brief message after the tone, and I'll get back to you. 12 A NSWERING M ACHINE O PERA TION This section discusses the buttons and features on the answering mac hine. M ESSAGES I NDICA TOR The MESS AGES indicator shows you how many new messages you have. The answer on/of f but ton must be on in order for the MESS A GES indicator to work.
13 E RASING M ESSAGES Y ou may erase messages three ways: one message at a time using the erase but ton on the base; all messages using the erase but ton on the base; or one message at a time using the erase but ton (0) on the handset or a phone in another location.

17 I N U SE I NDICA TOR The phone is ON when the indicator on the handset antenna is lit and the c harge/ in use indicator on the base is lit. The antenna indicator and the in use indicator on the base flashes when you receive a call. R EDIAL P ress the redial/delete button to redial the last number you called (up to 32 digits).
18 M UTE Use the mute button during a phone con ver sation to speak privately with another person in the room with you. 1 . P ress mute to acti vate mute feature. The display shows MUTE and the handset antenna indicator blinks. The per son on the telephone will not hear your pri vate conversation 2.
19 C ALLER ID F EA TURES This unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone compan y . This information can include the phone number , date, and time; or the name, phone number , date, and time. The unit can store up to 40 calls for later review.
20 R EVIEWING M ESSAGES As calls are recei ved and stored, the display is updated to let you know how man y calls have been recei ved. • P ress the CID arrow down but ton to scroll through the call records from the most recent to the oldest. • P ress the CID arrow up but ton to scroll through the call records from the oldest to the newest.
21 4. Press mem and EN TER NAME shows on the display . 5. Use the handset number pad to enter the name, then press mem and EN TER TEL NUMBR shows on the display . 6. Press redial/delete to display the redial number and name. 7 . P ress mem again to confirm.
22 M EMOR Y Store up to ten 24-digit numbers in memory for quic k dialing. This memory feature is in addition to the 40 Caller ID records that can be stored in memory . S TORING A N AME AND N UMBER IN M EMOR Y 1 . P ress the mem button. 2. Press the desired memory location button (0 through 9 k eys).
23 C HANGING A S TORED N UMBER Use the same procedure to c hange a stored number as you do to store a number—you’ re just replacing the phone number with a different one. D IALING A S TORED N UMBER 1 . Make sure the phone is ON by pressing the T ALK/callbac k but ton.

25 T EMPORARY T ONE This feature enables pulse (rotary) service phone user s to access touc h- tone services of fered by banks, credit card companies, etc. Press the T ONE* but ton to temporarily mak e the phone touc h-tone compatible. T o get information about your bank account, for example, you would: 1 .

A NTENNA I NDICA TOR The answering mac hine is acti ve when the antenna indicator on the handset is on.
27 1 . Dial the phone number for the answering mac hine. 2. Enter the security code af ter you hear the tone. 3. F ollow the v oice menu to use the answering mac hine ’ s remote functions.
28 H EADSET AND B EL T C LIP O PERA TION C ONNECTING AN O PTIONAL H EADSET TO THE H ANDSET F or hands free conver sation, connect the headset to the HEADSET jac k as shown. The handset recei ver and microphone are disabled when the headset is connected.
29 C HANGING THE B A TTERY Make sure the telephone is OFF before you replace bat tery . 1 . R emove the bat tery compar tment door . 2. Disconnect the cord at tac hed to the battery pac k and remo ve the bat tery pac k from the handset. 3. Insert the new bat tery pac k and connect the cord into the jac k inside the handset.
30 G ENERAL P RODUCT C ARE T o k eep your telephone working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • A void putting the phone near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motor s or fluorescent lamps). • DO NO T expose to direct sunlight or moisture.
31 DELETED Prompt confirming the Caller ID record is erased. END OF LIST Indicates that there is no additional information in Caller ID memory . NEW Indicates call or calls have not been reviewed. UNKNO WN NAME/ CALLER/NUMBER The incoming call is from an area not serviced by Caller ID or the information was not sent.
32 T ROUBLESHOOTING G UIDE C ORDLESS P HONE S OLUTIONS P roblem Solution No dial tone • Chec k installation: — Is the base power cord connected to a working outlet? — Is the telephone line cord connected to the base unit and the w all jac k? • Connect another phone to the same jac k; the problem might be your wiring or local service.
