3 1 Plug the telephone line cord into the base and into a modular jack. 2 Plug the power supply cord into the base, and then the power supply in an AC outlet. M ODULAR J ACK R EQUIREMENTS Y ou need an RJ11 type modular jack, which is the most common type of phone jack and might look like the one pictured here.
4 C ORDLESS P HONE B ASICS CAUTION: Because cordless phones operate on electricity , you should have at least one phone in your home that isn’ t cordless, in case the power in your home goes out. M AKING A C ALL The only two things you need to know to make a call are: • Press the PHONE ON/OFF button before you dial.
5 TIP: Be careful when you pick up the handset from the base during an in- coming call. If you press the PHONE ON/OFF button more than 2-3 seconds after picking up the handset, you might hang up on the caller .
6 A DV ANCED F EA TURES PHONE CHANNEL ON/OFF C HANNEL B UTTON Y ou might need to manually change the channel in order get rid of static. Press and release the CHANNEL button to advance to the next channel (until you get a clear channel).
7 C HAIN D IALING FROM M EMORY Use this feature to make calls which require a sequence of numbers, for instance if you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance number .
8 C HANGING THE B A TTERY The handset runs on a consumer -replaceable nickel cadmium battery pack. If you experience any of the following problems, you may need to replace the battery pack: • Short .
