2 11 Setting Up Y our Pla yer This chapter describes how to conn ect your Gateway Connected D VD Player to yo ur TV , audio syst em, and home network. Y ou need to complete these steps in the following order: 1 Set up your network and ma ke sure that your home network is working correctly .

If you do not already have a n etwork installed, you need to purchase the network components and follow the in stallation instructions provided by the manufacturer .

46 Chapter 3: Customizing www .gate wa y .com 5 Adjust the speaker levels on your amplifier as required. 6 Press ST OP t o cancel the test tone. Setting up analog audio The Analog Audio menu lets you set the format of the signal from t he 5.1 channe l (surround) and 2 channe l (stereo) audio jacks.

Use this setting only if the cen ter speaker is closer to your listening area than yo ur front speakers are.

51 Setting up par ental contr ols www .gate wa y .com Setting up parental contr ols The Rating men u lets you bloc k playback of DVDs by using a pa ssword-protected rating system. Not all DVDs are rated. T o set parental controls: 1 On the pla yer’ s remo te control, press ST O P , then press SETUP .

4 53 Using Gate wa y D5 Streaming Media Ser ver The Gateway D5 Streaming Media Ser ver program lets you make the media files on your comp uter available to the Gateway Conn ected DVD Player . Media Se rver must be running on your c omputer for the DVD player to communicate wi th your computer .
54 Chapter 4: Using Ga teway D5 S treamin g Media Server www .gate wa y .com Compatible file f ormats Media Server supports the following media formats: Star ting the pr ogram During installation, Media Server was added to your S tartup menu so it loads automaticall y when your computer starts.
55 Importin g media files www .gate wa y .com Impor ting media files Y ou can import audio, vi deo, and image files into Media Ser ver so the DVD player can display or play them . Y ou can import files from me dia program s (such as Wi ndows Med ia Player) or directly from your hard d rive.

57 Importin g media files www .gate wa y .com Importing media usin g plugins Y ou can impor t files that are assoc iated wit h a media pl ayer progra m into Media Server . This method of importing uses a part of the media player’ s program (called a plug in ) to i mport the fi les.

The disc tray ope ns. 2 Place the disc in th e tra y with the label side facing up. If the disc ha s no label and b oth si des are play able, make sure that the playback side you want is facing down .

If the disc is scratched, dirty , or if the DVD is not enco ded for Region 1, the disc will not play . 4 If the disc does not autom atically begin play ing, press PLA Y on the remote control or on th e front of the player .

Subtitles appear on the bottom of the TV screen. 2 Press SUBTITLE repeatedly to select from all av ailable subtitle languages, or to turn subtitl e s off.

81 DVD trou bleshoot ing www .gate wa y .com ■ Songs must meet the bit rate requirements (at l east 80 kbps for MP3, at least 48 kbps for WMA). If the media file does not meet the bi t rate requirements of the DV D player , the file is not displayed.
