When a ca rtridge slot is positioned in front of the tape drive, the loader grips the sides of the ca rtridge and slides it between the slot and tape drive.

The carousel co nsists of a drive chain, guides, and gears that move the cartridges into position in front of the tape drive and make sure that the cartridge is correctly al igned.
11 Starting t he autoloader www .gatew ay .com Starting the autoloader T o start the autoloader: 1 Attach the power cord to th e autoloader , then attach the other end to an AC outlet. For more information about the pow er cord, see “Power specifications” on page 57.

For more inform ation on data cartridges, s ee “Data cart ridges” on pag e 27. T o install the data cartridges: 1 Press any button on the Opera tor’ s Panel to change to interaction mode.

17 Choosing a locat ion www .gatew ay .com Checking the installation environment After choosing a location for the autoloader , consider the following: ■ The maximum recommended ambient temp erature for the auto loader is +50°F to + 104°F (+1 0°C to +40°C) .

19 Installi ng the autoload er into a c abinet www .gatew ay .com Preparing the autoloader T o prepare the autoloader for installation: 1 Use the era ser end of a pencil, or a similar o bject, to press the right side of the recessed power switch on the f ront of the autoloader .
20 Chapter 3: Setting Up th e Autoload er www .gatew ay .com Installin g the support rails T o install the support rails in the cabinet: 1 Remove the two support rails fro m the kit and note how they will be positioned in the cabinet. W hen the rails are installed, the shelf flanges will face inward to support t he autoloader .

If your cabinet has square m ounting holes, or the holes are larger than the sc rews provided in the kit, use the clip -nuts to secure the screws.

Running a system test verifies the basic operational soundness of the autoloader and tape drive.

This log data is helpful for development and serv ice purposes. The error and event log is accessible throug h the Operator’ s Panel and can be read out entry by entr y .
