Intr oduction 1.1 Chapter 1 Introduction Chapter 1: Introduction to the iQue ® Handheld W ith your iQue handheld, you will successfully be able to manage meetings and appointments, remember people’ s names and personal details, and keep track of all the items on your T o Do List at both work and home.

1.5 Chapter 1 Introduction ST ARTING Y OUR HANDHELD AND CALIBRA TING THE SCREEN The first time you start the iQue ® handheld, setup instructions appear on-screen.
1.6 Chapter 1 Introduction CLEANING THE TOUCH P ANEL SCREEN T o clean the touch panel of the iQue 3200, wipe the surface gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. The cloth may be used either dry , or dampened (not wet) with a mild detergent solution or with Ethanol.
1.7 Chapter 1 Introduction OPENING APPLICA TIONS Y ou can use the Applications Launcher (Home icon) to open any application installed on your handheld. Y ou can also open the four main applications—Date Book, Address Book, T o Do List, and the Que Applications—with the hardwar e application buttons on the front panel of your handheld.
1.8 Chapter 1 Introduction USING THE HANDHELD INTERF ACE Icons A Dot 1 Dot Scr oll Bar Pick List Y our handheld includes the following interface elements: • Pick lists display a list of choices. T ap the black triangle next to the pick list name to display a list of choices on a drop- down menu and then tap an item in the list to select it.
1.9 Chapter 1 Introduction Using Menus and Menu Commands Menus on your handheld are easy to use and work the same way in all applications. Menu bars and manual commands dif fer based on the application and the area of the application in which you’re working.
1.10 Chapter 1 Introduction Displaying T ips Many of the dialog boxes that appear on your handheld contain a Tips icon in the upper right corner . Tips anticipate questions you may have and provide shortcuts for using the dialog box or other useful information.

Y ou can use the HotSync ® feature of this software to back up and exchange data between your handheld and your computer .
1.18 Chapter 1 Introduction Upgrade Information If you do not own another Palm ™ Powered device, you may go on to “Installing Palm Desktop Softwar e” on the next page.
1.19 Chapter 1 Introduction T o import data from your old P alm ™ P owered handheld to your new iQue: 1. Open the Palm ™ Desktop and select the user name for your old handheld. 2. Open the Date Book, and select Export in the File Menu. This will export your old Date Book information to an archive file and save it on your computer .
1.20 Chapter 1 Introduction Using Y our Handheld with Another Personal Information Manager If you want to use another Personal Information Manager (PIM), such as Microsoft ® Outlook, you need to install connection software for your PIM, called a conduit.
2.1 Chapter 2 Entering Data Chapter 2: Entering Data in your iQue 3200 Handheld Y ou can enter data into your iQue handheld by using the on-scr een keyboard, writing with the stylus in the text input area, using an external keyboard, or by importing data fr om another application.
2.2 Chapter 2 Entering Data ENTERING D A T A USING GRAFFITI 2 HANDWRITING SOFTWARE Y ou can use Graffiti 2 str okes to create letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols. The Graffiti 2 writing str okes include all letters, numbers, and symbols found on a standard keyboar d.
2.3 Chapter 2 Entering Data General Guidelines for Gr affiti 2 Writing Follow these guidelines to learn and use Graffiti 2 writing strokes successfully: • T o achieve 100% accuracy , practice drawing characters exactly as they appear in the tables later in this chapter .
2.4 Chapter 2 Entering Data Entering Data: Graffiti ® 2 T o write Graffiti 2 letters: 1. T ap the screen where you want to write text, for example, on a line next to a time in the Date Book. Blinking cursor NO TE: A blinking cursor must appear on-screen above the Graffiti 2 writing area before you can begin writing text.
2.5 Chapter 2 Entering Data Entering Data: Graffiti ® 2 The Graffiti 2 Alphabet Draw Graffiti 2 letters according to the following alphabet. Writing Capital Letters Graffiti 2 writing automatically capitalizes the first letter of a new recor d or sentence.
2.6 Chapter 2 Entering Data Entering Data: Graffiti ® 2 W riting Accent Marks When writing letters with accent marks, first write the letter stroke on the left side (or in the center for upper case letters) of the input area. Then quickly write the accent str oke on the right side of the input area.

Managing Applications 3.1 Chapter 3 Managing Applications Chapter 3: Managing Applications This chapter explains how to switch between applications on your iQue ® handheld, how to personalize application settings, and how to categorize applications into related gr oups.
Managing Applications 3.2 Chapter 3 Managing Applications Categorizing Applications The category feature enables you to manage the number of application icons that appear on screen in the Applications Launcher . Y ou can assign an application to a category and then display a single category or all your applications.

Basic Applications Overview 4.1 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Chapter 4: Using Basic Applications Y our iQue ® Palm OS ® handheld with integrated GPS includes the following basic applications: .
4.2 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications SCHEDULING EVENTS An entry in the Date Book is called an event. When you schedule an event, its description appears on the time line, and its duration is set to 1 hour by default. Y ou can easily change the start time and duration for any event.
4.3 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications T ap the time to display the Set Time dialog box. 4. Set the event’ s duration: • If the event is 1 hour long, skip to the end of this procedure . • If the event is longer or shorter than an hour , tap directly on the time to open the Set T ime dialog box.
4.4 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications T o schedule a timed event for another date: 1. Select the date you want in one of the following ways: • T ap the desired day of the week in the date bar at the top of the screen. If necessary , tap the Previous week or Next week scroll arr ows to move to another week.
4.5 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Scheduling Repeating or Continuous Events The Repeat function lets you schedule events that recur at regular intervals or extend over a period of consecutive days. Repeating events include a birthday and a weekly guitar lesson that falls on the same day of the week and the same time of day .
4.6 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Changing Repeating or Continuous Events When changes are made to a repeating or continuous event you have the option of applying the change to just the curr ent event, the current event and all future occurr ences of this event, or all occurrences of this event – past, present, and futur e.
4.7 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Date Book: Scheduling Events Tips for Scheduling Repeating or Continuous Events Keep the following in mind when scheduling repeating or continuous events: • If you change the start date of a repeating event, your handheld calculates the number of days you moved the event.
4.8 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Setting Alarms The Alarm setting lets you set an audible alarm for events in your Date Book, and display a reminder message on-scr een. For untimed events, only the reminder message appears. Setting an Alarm for an Event Y ou can set an alarm for minutes, hours, or days before an event.
4.9 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Date Book: Setting Alarms Once an alarm has sounded, you can tap the Snooze option to dismiss the alarm for a 5-minute period. T o dismiss the alarm using the snooze option: 1. When the alarm dialog box appears , tap Snooze to delay the alarm for a preset five-minute period.
4.10 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications CHANGING THE D A TE BOOK VIEW The Date Book includes four views for displaying your appointments: day view , week view , month view , and agenda view . T o display the Date Book views: 1. Do one of the following: • Press the Date Book application button repeatedly to cycle through all the Date Book views.
4.11 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications W orking in Week View W eek view displays a calendar of your events for an entire week. This view lets you quickly review your appointments and available time slots. In addition, the graphical display helps you spot overlaps and conflicts in your schedule.
4.12 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Spotting Event Conflicts W ith the ability to define specific start and end times for any event, it is possible to schedule events that overlap (an event that starts before a previous event finishes).
4.13 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications W orking in Month View The Month View scr een shows which days have events scheduled. Dots and lines in the Month view indicate events, repeating events, and untimed events.
4.14 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications W orking in Agenda View The Agenda view lets you view appointments, untimed events, and T o Do List items in a single screen. Although it is primarily a viewing option, you can also use the Agenda view to check of f completed T o Do List items.
4.15 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications CHANGING THE D A TE BOOK DISPLA Y In Day or Month view , you can change which events appear in the Date Book. In Day view , you can display time bars that highlight event conflicts. T o change the Date Book display of events: 1.

A recor d in the T o Do List is called an item. T o create a T o Do List item: 1. Press the T o Do List button on the front of your handheld to display the T o Do List.
4.18 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications T o Do List: Prioritizing and Completing Items Setting T o Do List Priorities Y ou can set priorities for tasks in your T o Do List according to their importance or ur gency . Items appear by priority and due date at the top of the T o Do List by default, with 1 the highest priority .
4.19 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Changing Priorities and Due Dates Y ou can change the T o Do List to display the due date assigned to an item, change its priority , and assign a category to the task with the T o Do Item Details dialog box. Y ou can then sort T o Do List items by priority , due date, or categor y .

4.23 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Duplicating an Entry Y ou can duplicate existing entries, which can be helpful when you want to enter multiple people fr om a single organization. When you duplicate an entry , the wor d Copy appears next to the name in the First Name field.
4.24 Chapter 4 Using Basic Applications Using the Addr ess Book Editing Addr ess Book Entries Y ou can change the type of information that appears in the Address List scr een, categorize an entry , and hide an entry for security reasons. Y ou can also delete entries.

T ap Rename Custom Fields . 4. In the text input area, rename the fields to identify the information you’ll enter in them.

5.1 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks Chapter 5: Performing Common T asks The tasks described in this section use the term recor ds to refer to an individual item in any of the basic applications, for example, a single Date Book event, Address Book entry , T o Do List item or Memo Pad memo.
5.2 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks • Undo: reverses the last action taken. • Cut: removes a selection fr om its current location to memory . Y ou can then paste the text into another area of the current application or into a differ ent application.
5.3 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks Purging Records Over time, as you use Date Book and the T o Do List, you may accumulate records that ar e no longer useful. For example, events that occurred months ago remain in the Date Book, and completed T o Do List items remain in the list.
5.4 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks T o display a category of records: 1. Open one of the following applications: the Address Book, the To Do List or the Memo P ad. 2. T ap the pick list in the upper right corner of the screen; then tap the category you want to display .
5.5 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks • In the Address Book, select a record and tap Edit ; then tap Details . In the Category pick list, tap Edit Catego- ries . • In the Memo Pad and To Do List, select a record from the list, and tap Details . In the Category pick list, tap Edit Categories .
5.6 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks FINDING RECORDS Y our handheld lets you find information in several ways: • In standard Palm OS ® applications, starting with the curr ent application, you can locate selected text.
5.7 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks As your handheld searches for the text, you can tap Cancel to stop the sear ch at any time. NO TE: F ind will locate all matches that begin with the supplied text. It will not find words where the supplied text appears in the middle or at the end of a word.
5.8 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks Sorting Records Y ou can sort lists of recor ds in various ways, depending on the application. Sorting is available in applications that display lists—in the Address Book, T o Do List and Memo Pad. T o sort records in the T o Do List application: 1.
5.9 Chapter 5 P erforming Common T asks T o sort the Memo List manually: 1. T ap and drag a memo to a new location in the list. TIP: T o display the list of your memos on your computer as you arranged them manually on your handheld, open Memo P ad in P alm ™ Desktop softw are click List By , and select Order on Handheld .

6.1 Chapter 6 Using the Attention Manager Chapter 6: Using the Attention Manager Many applications (such as Date Book and Clock) want to get your attention with some sort of alarm. Attention Manager allows you to conveniently manage all of these notifications in one place.
6.2 Chapter 6 Using the Attention Manager Setting Alarm V olume Y ou contr ol most alarm volumes globally in the General panel of the Preferences menu. T o set the alarm volume: 1. From the Applications Launcher , tap the Prefs icon. 2. T ap the General pick list in the upper right corner of the screen.
6.3 Chapter 6 Using the Attention Manager Using the Reminders List Scr een The Reminders dialog screen changes to a list of items that requir e your attention under two insistent alarm conditions: • When a second application attempts to get your attention and the first has not been dismissed or snoozed.
