Clean the unit using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipe dry .
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 1 B ASIC O PERA TION > I NITIALIZING THE R ECEIVER B ASIC O PERA TION Initializing the Receiver The first time you turn on the GPSMAP 192C, the receiver must be given an opportunity to collect satellite data and establish its present location.
2 GPSMAP 192C Owner’s Manual B ASIC O PERA TION > I NITIALIZING THE R ECEIVER T o graphically initialize the GPSMAP 192C: 1. Press MENU twice for the Main Menu. Press Up or Down on the ROCKER until the GPS tab is highlighted, then press MENU one time.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 3 B ASIC O PERA TION > S IMULA TOR M ODE Simulator Mode Simulator Mode turns the GPS receiver off for use indoors or practice. Any of the functions discussed in the following pages can be performed in Simulator Mode. While in Simulator Mode, a “Running Simulator” message appears after 2 minutes of inactivity .

The MOB function allows you to quickly activate navigation back to a location.

22 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual B ASIC O PERA TION > DSC DSC The DSC page of the Main Menu allows you to control and set up the Digital Selective Calling (DSC) features on the GPSMAP 192C. Digital Selective Calling (DSC) uses marine VHF radio and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies to transmit and receive location information.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 23 B ASIC O PERA TION > DSC Understanding Position Reports A Position Report is similar to a Distress Call except no alarm is sounded. Position Reports are not broadcast to all DSC users and are shown with a boat symbol.

28 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN P AGES > M AP P AGE Using the Map Pointer The pointer pans away from your present location (even outside of your current detail coverage.) As you pan past the edge of the current map display , the screen actively scrolls forward to provide continuous map coverage.

The GPSMAP 192C displays cartography as long as there is chart information available for the range you have selected.

Additionally , a compass ribbon is displayed to show your current heading along with a dark, vertical bar that indicates the direct bearing to the navigation point.

40 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > GPS T AB • No signal strength bars —the receiver is looking for the satellites indicated. • Light signal strength bars —the receiver has found the satellite(s) and is collecting data.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 41 M AIN M ENU > GPS T AB W AAS satellites are numbered 33 or higher when viewing the sky view on your GPSMAP 192C. Initial reception of the W AAS signal can take up to 15-20 minutes, then 1-2 minutes afterwards.

44 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > T IDE T AB are in 4-hour increments, and the light, dotted vertical lines are in 1-hour increments. A solid, vertical line (with the current time box at the top) indicates the time of day when using current date and intersects the tide graph to show their relation.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 45 M AIN M ENU > T IDE T AB Automatically search for the nearest station using a variety of search locations. Y ou must select a location within 100 nm of a tide station. If you are not within this range, you see a message “None Found.

60 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > T RACK T AB For the Active tab, the following settings are available: • Record Mode —contains three track recording options: Off —the track log is not recorded. Selecting the Off setting prevents you from using the T racBack feature.

70 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > U NITS T AB Units T ab The Unit tab defines the Position Format, Map Datum, Heading, Distance, Speed, Elevation, Depth, and T emperature units. The following settings are available: • Position Format —changes the coordinate system.

Y ou can select from Auto Mag V ar , T rue, Grid, and User Mag V ar . Auto Mag V ar provides magnetic north heading references that are automatically determined from your current location.
72 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > C OMM T AB Comm (Communications) T ab The Communications tab controls the input/output format used when connecting your GPSMAP 192C to external NMEA devices, such as an external Sonar Module, a DGPS beacon receiver , a personal computer , or another Garmin unit.

NOTE: The DGPS beacon transmitters ar e operated by the U.S. Coast Guar d (or similar government agency in other countries), and ar e r esponsible for their accuracy and maintenance.
76 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual M AIN M ENU > A LARM T AB Alarm T ab The Alarm tab allows you to define the alarm settings. The Alarm tab is divided into three sub tabs: System alarms, Nav alarms, and Sonar alarms. System T ab • Clock —provides an alarm for the system clock.

78 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE U SING S ONAR This section covers the additional sonar options for the GPSMAP 192C when used in conjunction with a Sounder Module. Read the Installation Instructions to properly install the Sounder Module.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 79 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE Using the Adjustment Menu The Adjustment Menu gives you direct access to the settings and features most commonly used on the Sonar page. The option selected currently appears in the upper left of the display .
80 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE Range Adjustment Zoom Adjustment Range —sets the display depth range used for viewing. The unit can be set to automatically track the bottom or set to a user - specified depth range. Auto mode displays the most information possible while continuously showing the bottom.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 81 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE • Btm (Bottom) Split —shows two reduced pictures; the right at the original depth scale and the left showing sonar returns from the bottom up. All target depths read as a distance from the bottom.
82 GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE T arget Level —adjusts how dark or light a return (or target) is displayed on-screen. A Color Bar (see page 87 ) appears on the right side of the screen as you adjust this setting. The higher the percentage, the darker the return appears.
GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 83 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE Depth Line Adjustment Noise Reject —helps filter unwanted noise from the graph. The Noise Reject tool can be turned Off, set to Normal (automatically adjusts for optimum viewing), or to a fixed 1-100% setting.

GPSMAP 192C Owner ’s Manual 85 U SING S ONAR > S ONAR P AGE T o mark an underwater waypoint: 1. From the Sonar page, press MENU , highlight Show Pointer , and press ENTER to pause the screen movement. 2. Use the ROCKER to move the cursor onto the target, such as underwater drop offs and stumps, you want to mark.
