English 2 * 1: About the SD Memory Car d This digital camera can use either an SD Memory Card or a Multi Media Card for dat a storage. This manual is written with the premise that SD Memory Cards are used. In this manual, SD Memory Card and Multi Media Card are both ref erred to as “card”.

English 22 Insert the car d The card can be used after it has been formatted with the camera (see page 90). When inserting the card, make sure that it is correctly oriented. T ake special care to orient the card correctly when inserting it. Attempting to insert the card incorrectly may result in damage.

25 English SHOO TING BEFORE T AKING PICTURES (for best results) Recor ding the da te and time When the correct dat e and time are set in your camer a, the dat e and time are recorded with the image each time y ou snap a pictur e (see page 85).
English 26 Using the A utofocus The autof ocus will wo rk in almost all situations; ho we ver , there are certain conditions that ma y cause the autof ocus function to not work properly . If the autof ocus function is not working properly , set the focus r ange to capture images (see page 52).
27 English BEFORE T AKING PICTUR ES (for best result s) The foll owing e xamples are so me of the situations where th e autof ocus function ma y work, but not as desired.
English 28 While the imag e data is being recorded... i The accessing indicator flashes while an image is being recorded and it is not possible t o take another pict ure at this time. When the accessin g indicator stops flashing, the camera is again enabled f or shooting.

31 English CAPTURING I MA GES NO TE About the focus i con and target mar k i The target mark outlines the area tha t the camera is using to f ocus. If the area outlined b y the target mark is not the subject you w ant to f ocus on, then ref ocus y our subject, f or e xam ple by changing the shooting angle.
English 32 Capturing sequent ial shots 1 Se t the camera to the se quential shots shooting mode (see page 29). 2 Pr ess the shutter r elease button to capture the sequential shots. h Images are captu red as long as the sh utter release b utton is pressed.
33 English CAPTURING I MA GES Video Clips (no audio) Y our camera can shoot Vid eo clips . * Video clips can only be shot without sound. 1 Set the camera to the video clip shooting mode (see page 30). 2 Press the shutter release button to record the video clip.
English 34 O THER SHOO TING FUNCTIONS Using the flash The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlig ht conditions . Y our camer a has fo ur modes of operation (automat ic flash mode , f orced flash mo de, flash off mode, an d red-ey e reduction mode).
35 English O THER SHOO TING FUNCTIONS 2 Press the flash button [] ( [ n ]) to select the flash mode. h Each time the flash b utton is pre ssed, the flash mode icon changes . 3 Press the shutter release button. h The image is captured in the desired fla sh mode.
English 36 Using the zoom There are two z oom functions: optical z oom and digital zoom. 1 Poi nt the camera lens at the subject. 2 Pres s [T] or [W] on the zoom switch to compose the desired image. [ T ]: Zoom in o n the subject. [ W ]: Zoom out. h When the zoom s witch is pressed, the zoom bar app ears on the LCD mo nitor.
37 English O THER SHOO TING FUNCTIONS SELF-TIMER The self-timer can be used to take ph otos in the still imag e shooting mode and sequential shots sho oting mode . 1 Set the c amera to the sti ll image or sequential shot s shooting mode, press the MENU button and select the self-timer menu.

39 English O THER SHOO TING FUNCTIONS NO TE i When using the self-time r function, be sure to use a tripod or place the digital camera on a lev e l, stable surf ace. HINT About the focus i In self-timer photog raph y , the autof ocus is activ ated just bef ore the shutter is released to produce a f ocussed image.

49 English CHANGING THE SHOO TING SETTINGS Snapping ID photos Lets y ou tak e either of two dif fere nt-siz ed ID phot os (45 × 35 mm [1.77" × 1.38"] or 4 0 × 30 mm [1.57" × 1.18"], printed out on postcard-siz ed paper). 1 Select the ID photo icon from the Scene Select menu, and press the SET button.
English 50 Adjusting the ima ge quality k Resolution setting If the resolution is increased, the image quality will impro ve , b ut the number of remaining images that can be tak en will decrease . Select the resolution according to the desired image quality and purpose.

53 English CHANGING THE SHOO TING SETTINGS How to use the manual f ocus 1 Select the manual focus icon from the focus menu, and press the SET button. 2 Press the SET button. h The focus dista nce adjustment bar appears . 3 Use the [ l ] and [ m ] arrow buttons to adjust the focus distance, and press the SET button.
English 54 White Balance Set ting This digital camera aut omatically adjusts the white balance under most lighting conditio ns. It is recommended that y ou adjust the white bal ance setting especially if specifying a light source. 1 Display t he Shooting Setting Screen (see page 40), and select t he white balance menu.

63 English CHANGING IMA GE SIZE (RESIZE) Fo r a still image that was captured using a higher resolution th an , yo u can change the siz e to 640 × 480 pix els or 320 × 240 pix els and sa ve it as a separate still image. 1 Display the sti ll image whose size you want to change.

67 English O THER PLA YB A CK FUNCTIONS Image pr otect mode (Pre vent accid ental erasure) By using the image protect mode , you can pre vent accidental erasure or ov erwriting of the important data that you w ant to k eep . 1 Display the data that you want to protect.
English 68 CA UTION i Even if the prot ect mode is set f or certain data files, they will be erased if the card is ref or matted (see page 90 ). HINT T o select a different image in steps 4 and 5... i Press [ l ] or [ m ]. T o cancel the protect mode f or an image.
69 English O THER PLA YBA C K FUNCTIONS Erasing Data Images and video clips can be erased one at a time, or all at once . 1 Display the data that you want to erase. 2 Display the Pl ayback Setting Screen (see page 61). 3 Select the erase icon and press the SET button.
English 70 4 Pr ess [ n ] or [ o ] on the arrow button to select the desi red type of erase, and press the SET button. h The Erase Conf irmation Screen appears. YES: Erases th e selected da ta. EXIT : Does not erase the selected data and returns to the Erase Screen.
71 English O THER PLA YBA C K FUNCTIONS Copy ima ge data Y ou can cop y y our photogr aphed images from the camera ’ s internal memor y to a card, and vice versa. 1 Insert a card in the camera (see page 22). 2 Display the Pl ayback Setting Screen (see page 61).

73 English O THER PLA YBA C K FUNCTIONS Extracting a Still Image Fr om a Video Clip Y ou can select one image (sce ne) from a video clip , cop y it, and sav e it as a still image (the original data remains unchanged). 1 Play back a video clip, and pause at the point you wish to copy and save (see pages 56 and 57).
English 74 Print Settings (DPOF setting) In addition to using your printer to print out still im ages captured with your camera, as with conv entional film, you can hav e prints made at shops offering digital print ser vices.
75 English O THER PLA YBA C K FUNCTIONS HINT i T o print with a pr inter or hav e the digital print service shop pr int out a still image from a video clip , y ou must fir st sav e it (sav e frame (see pag e 73)) as a still image. HINT About the DPOF format i DPOF (Digital Print Order Fo rmat) is a print order f ormat.
English 76 Specifying date imprin ting and print quantities Y ou can specify print settings for each individual image (EACH IMA GE), or apply the print settings to all the images on the ca rd (ALL IMAGES). 1 Di splay the Print Settings Screen (see page 74).

83 English LCD MONIT OR SETTING Set the LCD monitor to on or off Y ou can sa ve bat tery power by turning off the LCD monitor when shooti ng. 1 Display the Shooting Option Screen (see page 81). 2 Select the moni tor ON/OFF icon , and press the SET button.

85 English D A TE AND TIME SETTING The digital camera will record the date and time an image is t aken so that y ou can display the m during playb ack. Theref ore, befo re capturing images, mak e sure the correct date and time are se t. Example: T o set the clock to 7:30 p .
English 86 3 Set the date. 1 Press the arrow b utton to select “DA TE”. 2 Press the SET butt on. h The Set Date Screen appears. 3 Press the arrow b utton to se t the date to “200 5/12/23”. h Y ear sett ing → [ m ] → Month setting → [ m ] → Day setting.
87 English D A TE AND TIME SETTING 5 Set the order in which the date is displayed during playback. 1 Press the arrow b utton to sel ect “DISP”. 2 Press the SET bu tton.

English 90 INITIA LIZING THE CARD MEMOR Y AND IN TERNAL M EMOR Y A card must be f ormatted with this camera: i After purchasing, when used f or the first ti me, or i If it wa s f ormatted using a personal computer or a nother digita l camera. The card cannot be ref ormatted if the loc k s witch is set to the “LOCK” position.
91 English INITIALIZING THE CARD MEMOR Y AND INTERNAL MEMOR Y 4 Select the desired format option, and press the SET butt on. 5 Select “YES”. 6 Press the SET button. h Fo rmatting begins. h During formatting, “FORMA TTING” and “DO NO T POWER OFF” are shown on the LCD monitor .
English 92 PO WER SA VE SETTING Y our camera has a “po wer sa ve” functi on whereby the po wer automatically turns off after a specified period of inactivity . The power sa ve fun ction works to conserve the battery power when the camer a is not being used, or to pre ven t the batteries from dying if the ca mera has accidental ly been left on.
93 English PO WER SA VE SETTING 3 Press [ n ] or [ o ] on the arrow button to select the desired optio n. 4 Press the SET button. h The Set Standb y Time Screen appears. 5 Press [ n ] or [ o ] on the arrow button to set the standby time. 6 Press the SET button.
English 94 FILE NO . RESET FUNCTION If a ref ormatted card is used, the file name (image n umber) of the captured image automatically begins from 000 1. If the card is subsequently ref ormatted, or if a differe nt ref ormatted card is used, the file names again begin from 0001.
