2 W elcome to CleanSmar t ™ Thank you f or buying a Fisher & P aykel CleanSmar t™ clothes washer . W e are proud of this washer and trust it will serve you well for man y years. At F isher & Pa ykel we aim to provide inno vative products that are simple t o use, ergonomic and kind to the environment.
3 Installation instructions Unpacking T o ensure the best performance from your new CleanSmart™ clothes washer please follow the instructions below . Removing the packaging 1 Remove the outer packaging. 2 Tilt the machine backwards and walk it off the base packer one foot at a time (ensure the lid is still taped do wn).
4 Installation instructions Draining Regularly check that your standpipe or tub is free from lin t or other obstructions which may affect how your machine works or ma y cause flooding. In multi-storey apartments or any upper floor the machine should be installed on a floor that is equipped with a drain.

6 Installation instructions Completing y our installation T urn on the water and check all hose connections for leaks. Make sure there ar e no kinks in the hoses. Check the hose connections for leaks again after 24 hours. Uncoil the power c ord, remov e and discard the plastic pin cov er , and plug into wall socket and turn the power on.
7 Before y ou star t, it is a good idea to go through the f ollowing checklist: 1 Has the base packer been removed? 2 Is the drain hose threaded through the ‘U bend’ hose guide (with no more than .
8 Getting star ted quick ly Before y ou star t It is impor tant to sort your clothes, par ticularly separating white/light colours fr om dark colours, as well as separ ating out sheets and towels . Refer to page 13 for mor e details on sorting and loading.
9 Getting star ted quick ly Using your w asher The buttons requir e only a gentle touch to activate. 1 T ouch POWER to activate your CleanSmart™ washer .
10 CleanSmar t ™ contr ols SmartT ouch Contr ol Dial The SmartT ouch Control Dial pro vides easy and efficient cycle selection. As you rotate the dial, the cycle selected will be illuminated, along with the default settings for that cycle on the right of the control panel .
11 CleanSmar t ™ safety fea tures Lid lock The lid of your CleanSmart™ washer is locked during the wash cycle, ensuring safety for you and your family while it is operating . The ‘Lid locked’ light (above the ST ART / P AUSE butt on) is illuminated when the lid lock is activated, letting you know at a glance if y ou can open the lid or not.
12 The unique CleanSmart ™ wash The CleanSmar t™ washer has two modes of washing, HE ‘ O n ’ (High Efficiency) and HE ‘ Off ’ (Con ventional) .
13 Sor ting and loading When sorting your wash load and loading your CleanSmart™ there are some important things to consider: Sor ting Care labels pro vide valuable information about the fabric type and how the garment should bewashed.
14 Sor ting and loading Y ou may notice that y our CleanSmar t ™ clothes washer behaves diff erently from y our previous washer . Y our CleanSmar t™, like all H igh Efficiency washers, has fully automatic water lev el selection. This means that, like fron t loaders, the selection of the water level is left entirely up to the washer .
15 Choosing the right detergen t Y our CleanSmar t™ is a H igh Efficiency clothes washer and needs a Low Sudsing Detergent to preven t oversudsing problems . This is the same type of detergent F ront Loaders use and is labelled, “Lo w Suds” , “Matic” , “High Efficiency ” or “HE” .
16 F abric softener Choosing the right cycle If you wish to use fabric softener you will need to select SOFTENER by touching the OPTIONS button which will give you a deep rinse . If the SOFTENER option is not selected, the fabric softener will not be dispensed correctly .
17 W ash Boost W ash B oost options Y our CleanSmart™ washer has an extra dispenser located on the right hand side called the W ashB oost dispenser .
18 Y our CleanSmar t™ washer has a number of wash c ycles to suit your laundering needs . Selec ting the most appropriate cycle for each particular wash load will help ensure you get the best possible wash result.
19 W ash c ycles Handwash Handwash – High Efficiency On F or delicate lightly soiled clothes. Handwash – High Efficiency mode Off F or when you want to wash y our delicates in more water . Also recommended f or machine and hand washable woollen items.
20 W ash c ycles Bulky Bulky – High Efficiency O n Not available. Bulky – High Efficiency O ff Recommended cycle for washing bulky items. High Efficiency ON High Efficiency OFF (Default mode) Agit.
21 W ash c ycles Quick Quick – High Efficiency On F or washing lightly soiled garments in a faster time. Quick – High Efficiency O ff Not available.
22 W ash c ycles T ow els T ow els – High Efficiency O n Recommended for washing lightly soiled t owels and when you want t o save wat er . T ow els – High Efficiency O ff Recommended cycle for everyday washing of tow els, new tow els that may release dye during the wash, and after a day at the beach.
23 W ash c ycle options W ash c ycle options explained Once you hav e selected your wash cycle you may wish to change the default wash options . High Efficiency This option lets you choose between a High Efficiency (ie High Efficienc y On) and Conventional (ie High Efficienc y Off ) mode of washing.
24 W ash c ycle options Spin Speed Y our CleanSmar t™ washer offers three spin speeds: F AST (1100 rpm), MEDIUM (670 rpm) and SL OW (330 rpm), plus an additional SPIN HOLD option. Simply increase or decrease your spin speed by touching the SPIN SPEED button.
25 Cust omising wash cycles T o cust omise a c ycle Y ou can progr am your CleanSmart ™ washer to remember the wash options you pref er for each wash cycle. F or instance, y ou may want to set the TOWELS cycle to a W ARM / HOT wash or set the HEA VY c ycle to include a SOAK.
26 Changing pre-set options Option Adjustment mode After using your washer a number of times you ma y want to fine tune some of the options to suit your wash needs. There ar e a number of pre -set options which can be altered: 1 The wash temperatur es, including changing the C OLD wash temperature t o CONTROLLED C OLD.
27 Changing pre-set options Adjusting y our options 1 Enter the Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 26). 2 The diagram below sho ws how the wash cycle icons relat e to the pre-set options you can change. It also shows what will be display ed when you first enter Option Adjustmen t mode.
28 Changing pre-set options W ash temperatures All wash temperatur es can be individually adjusted if you think they are too hot or t oo cold. Note: the hot temperatur e will be the same as the hot water supply temperatur e. T o modify the wash temper ature: 1 Enter Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 26).
29 Changing pre-set options Out of balance reco very routine When your washer is spinning it can sense if the wash load is out of balanc e. If an out of balance load is detected, the machine will stop and re-tr y spinning one more time. If it still senses an unbalanced load there are two options the machine can take .
30 Changing pre-set options F ac tory reset Y ou can reset y our washer to the default settings it left the factor y with. T o reset y our washer to its factory settings: 1 Enter Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 26). 2 Select the EASY IRON c ycle.
31 Caring f or your washer When you ha ve finished using your w asher T urn off the taps to prevent the chance of flooding should a hose burst. Unplug the machine from the power socket .
32 Cleaning your low -profile agitator If your low-profile agita tor becomes stained we rec ommend you use household bleach to clean it. Ensure you w ear gloves. Tip a small amount of household bleach onto a soft cloth and apply to the stain. Be careful to av oid metal sur faces of your machine.
33 Before y ou call for ser vice Please read the f ollowing pages before y ou call for service. Y our CleanSmar t™ is capable of diagnosing its own problems. If your washer giv es a musical series of beeps every 5 seconds it is telling you that it has a problem which you can correct yourself with the help of the checklists on the following pages.
34 Before y ou call for ser vice “Sud L OC ” (suds lock – I have too man y suds) Y our machine has a suds build-up . T oo much detergent may ha ve been used for the amount of soil in the load. Ensure that you ar e using a HE, Low Sudsing , Matic or Fr ont Loader type detergent.
35 Solving operating pr oblems Pressing POWER does not turn on machine Is the power switched on at the w all? Unplug from wall. Wait 60 sec onds, plug back in, turn on and try again. Could household pow er supply be at fault? T r y plugging in another appliance.
36 Solving operating pr oblems Small puddle of water coming fr om under machine The detergent dispenser ma y be blocked (refer to page 31). F abric sof tener dispenser may not be fitted correctly (ref er to page 16). Machine may have been ov erloaded, causing splash from clothes as machine filled.
37 Solving wash problems Creasing W as the washer (or dryer) overloaded? Selecting the EASY IRON c ycle will minimise creasing. T r y selec ting a slower spin speed. T r y not to leave wet clothes sitting in the washer or laundry basket. T r y selec ting a lower wash tempera ture.
38 Solving wash problems Black or grey marks on clothes Are you using enough det ergent for the amount of dirt? Empty machine and put through a BOWL CLEAN cycle (refer to page 31). T angling T r y separating out larger items from smaller items . T r y using H igh Efficiency OFF .
39 Manufac turer’ s W arranty Y ou automatically r eceive a 2 year Manufacturer’ s W arranty with the purchase of this Productcovering parts and labour for servicing within the countr y of purchase.
40 Manufac turer’ s W arranty E Normal recommended maintenance as set out in the product’ s user guide. F R epairs when the appliance has been dismantled, repair ed or serviced by other than a Fisher&Paykel authorised repair er or the selling dealer .
