Chapter 2: Vi rtual Chassis Stac king 60 VCStack Introduction Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack™) is the name given to two or more separate Allied Telesis switches that are configured to operate as a single logical switch.

A stack always has a primary stack member called t he stack master, and can contain up to 7 other stack members.
Chapter 2: Vi rtual Chassis Stac king 62 Ring Configuration A virtual stack using x610 switches can comprise up to 8 stack members connected in a ring topology. Figure 34 shows a ring comprising 3 stacked x610 series switches with AT-Sta ckXG stacking module s installed.

Chapter 2: Vi rtual Chassis Stac king 64 Stack Formation A VCStack always contains a master plus a number of stack members. To be part of a stack, a switch must connect to other potential st ack members via dedicated stacking ports on the VCStack stacking module located in the rear of the switch.
x610 Series Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet Switc hes Installation Gui de 65 Note New switches are shipped with a Stack Member-ID of 1 a nd a priority of 128. If four such switches are crea ted as a stack, the switch with the lowest MAC address will be selected to be the stack master (because all priority settin gs are 128).
Chapter 2: Vi rtual Chassis Stac king 66 Stack Member Identification When a switch becomes a member of a VCStack it is assigned a Stack Member-ID. Stack status information is displayed on the STACK a nd STATUS LEDs on the switch’s front panel, sh own in Figure 37 .
