Operation Operation Controls Note: Become familiar with all of the controls in Figure 3 and Figure 4 before y ou start the engine and operate the mac hine. Ignition Switch Located on control panel. The ignition switch is used to start and stop the engine.
Operation Parking Brake Lever Located on left side of the console (Figure 3). The brak e lev er engages a parking brake on the dri ve wheels . Pull the lev er up and rearward to engag e the brak e . Push the lev er forw ard and down to disengag e the brake .

Important: Nev er use methanol, gasoline containing methanol, or gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol because the fuel system could be damaged.
Operation Using Stabilizer/Conditioner Use a fuel stabilizer/conditioner in the mac hine to provide the following benets: • Keeps gasoline fresh during storage of 30 da ys or less . F or longer storage it is recommended that the fuel tank be drained.

Operation The Safety Interlock System CAUTION If safety inter lock s witches are disconnected or damaged the machine could operate unexpectedly causing personal injur y . • Do Not tamper with the interlock switches. • Check the operation of the inter lock switches daily and replace an y damaged switches before operating the machine.
Operation CAUTION Machine can spin v er y rapidly by positioning one lev er too much ahead of the other . Operator may lose control of the machine, which may cause damage to the machine or injur y . • Use caution when making tur ns. • Slow the machine down before making shar p tur ns.

Operation W ARNING Loading a unit on a trailer or tr uck increases the possibility of backw ard tip-o ver . Backw ard tip-o ver could cause serious injur y or death. • Use extreme caution when operating a unit on a ramp . • Use only a single, full width ramp; Do Not use indi vidual ramps for each side of the unit.

Maintenance Drive System Maintenance Checking the T ire Pressure Service Interval: Every 25 hours/Monthly (whichever comes rst) Maintain the air pressure in the front and rear tires as specied. Unev en tire pressure can cause unev en cut. Check the pressure at the v alv e stem (Figure 31).

Maintenance tw o “ A ” thick blocks (see Bloc k Height and Rak e T able in Leveling the Mower Deck ) under eac h side of the front edge of the deck, but not under the anti-scalp roller brac kets . 7. Loosen the lev eling adjust loc king nuts (item 4) on all four corners so that the deck is sitting securely on all four blocks .
Maintenance Replacing the Discharge Deector DANGER An unco vered discharge opening could allo w the lawn mower to throw objects in the operator’s or bystander’s direction and result in serious injur y . Also, contact with the blade could occur .
Maintenance Adjustments T racking Adjustment If the mac hine turns right or left when handles are pushed forw ard together , adjust the trac king plate on the side opposite the direction of turn (see Figure 47). Loosen the hardware that holds the trac king plate .
Maintenance Note: If the mow er is not clean after one washing, soak it and let it stand for 30 min utes . Then repeat the process . 8. Disengag e the blade control switch, mo ve the motion controls outw ard to the neutral position, engag e parking brak e, stop the engine , and remov e the key . 2. R emov e grass clippings , dir t, and grime from the external parts of the entire machine , especially the engine.
T roubleshooting T roubleshooting Important: It is essential that all operator safety mechanisms be connected and in proper operating condition prior to mow er use. When a problem occurs , Do Not o verlook the simple causes . F or example: star ting problems could be caused by an empty fuel tank.
