- 2 - Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the R1800 Hybrid Dual Decora tion System with SubliJet IQ™ and ChromaBlast digital transfer inks. This syst em for the EPSON Stylus Photo R1800 is the latest advancement from Sawgrass Technologies, In c.
- 3 - About this Document This document contains descriptions and procedures for using SubliJet IQ and ChromaBlast inks and the R1800 IQ System, along with addi tional information for getting the best results from your transfers.
- 4 - Before you Begin Quick Connect II™ Set-up for the Epson R1800 1.Check to ensure that you have all of the components necessary to setup your Quick Connect II™ system. 2. Place the Quick Connect II box on a level surface next to where your printer is going to be placed.
- 5 - 4. Insert the ink bags into the in k box by clipping them into the corresponding connectors attached inside the box. Each section is marked with which color ink should be placed there. 5. Once all ink bags are c onnected inside your Quick Connect II™ ink box, you will need to obtain the small primer bottle to prime each line.
- 6 - 3. Remove the cartridge cover by gently pushi ng on the right side and twisting to the right as shown below. 4. Install the cartridge chips as shown in the pictures below. Star t by lining up the first chip with the yellow dot with the yellow ink slot in the cartridge bay.
- 7 - 5. Insert the plastic cross bars into place by sliding the notched end into the back of the chip holders. 6. Slide the cartridge bay to the c enter of the printe r to install the sublimation cartridges. It must be to the left of t he gray bar before any cartridges can be installed.
- 8 - 9. Attach the custom cover to the cartridge bay. Be careful not to pinch the tubes when closing the cover. 10. Obtain the long tube holder a nd remove the tabs from the back exposing the adhesive. Place the tube holder in the middle of the gray bar and atta ch it to the printer.
- 9 - 13. Press the ink button to move the print head back to the ink cartridge parked position. Congratulations! You’ve successfully installed an R1800 Quick Connect II ink system and printer. You may want to remove the printer lid or leave it open at all times.
- 10 - Tips for Using the QuickConnect II™ System Make sure you install the SubliJet IQ Driver and theChromaBlast Driver™ from the CD that came with your Quick Connect II system. Perform a nozzle check from the Subli Jet and ChromaBlast Driver™.

- 14 - Setup Instructions – Wi ndows XP/Windows 2000 TheR1800 Hybrid system comes suppli ed with a single CD that includes both the ChromaBlast and PowerDriver IQ drivers and documentation. The installa tion will autostart once the CD is placed in the computer.

- 16 - 7. The License Agreement is displayed next. Select the appropriate choice for a cceptance of the Lice nsing Agreement. 8. If you have not previously regist ered the ChromaBlast R1800 Driver™ v1 .0, you will be prompted to do so. Registering is the only way to take full advantage of the feat ures in this Driver.
- 17 - A notification box indicating you have successful registered the ChromaBlast Driver will appear. Click “OK” to continue with the installation. 10. Sawgrass Technologie s, Inc. provides ColorSure co lor palettes for use with Corel and Adobe.
- 18 - 12. If the installation cannot find the printer port then you will be given the opp ortunity to choose the port you want to use for the product you are installing. Us e the value that was recorde d in step 4 above . 13. Once the installation has completed, the Installation Complete screen will display.
- 19 - Product Overview – PowerDriver R1800 IQ PowerDriver R1800 IQ is a color man a gement software soluti on that has been written as a Wind ows printer driver.

- 23 - Using PowerDriver R1800 IQ in Windows 2000 / X P PowerDriver R1800 IQ is simple to use. Whenever you have SubliJet inks in your printer, you should print using PowerDriver R1800 IQ . Do not print to your Epson printer with the Ep son printer driver; printing with the Epson driver will not give you the benefit of color management.
- 24 - PowerDriver R1800 IQ Properties Overview The following figure shows the printer properties fo r a registered version of PowerDriver R1800 IQ . There are three main property groups; 1. Configuration – Set Paper, Transfer Substrate, and Copy Count 2.
- 25 - Insert the paper size and margin s of the custom paper. Give t he custom paper a name in the Form Name box. Click on the Add Form button when done. Note that after adding a custom paper size, the printing preferenc es dialog box must be closed and reopened before the new paper size will show in the paper size drop down list.
- 26 - Group 2 - Color Settings (Easy Color Mode) The Easy Color Option tab provides you with acce ss to a collection of carefully selected color management presets. The right color management choice is essential to making hig h quality transfers. Easy Color is a fast, simple way of choosing a color management scheme.
- 27 - Print Palette Button – Prints the ColorSure palette for the selected substrate. ColorSure is a method for reproducing exact spot colors. The two main components are: 1) the transferred palette and 2) the CorelDraw, Corel PhotoPaint, and Adobe swatches.

- 33 - High Speed – If the printer supports multiple resoluti ons, choose the most appropriate setting. For soft substrates, the Hi gh Speed option works well. High Quality – If the printer supports multiple resolution s, choose the most appropriate setting.
- 34 - Appendices Appendix A: Network Printing in Windows 2000, XP Network printing with PowerDriver in Windows 2000 and Windows XP is simple. Before a network printer can be used, it must be inst alled on the network and shared. Host Machine (Server) The server machine must have installed the prin ter and have the printer shared.
- 35 - Appendix B: Over-riding Graphi c Software Color Management PowerDriver R1800 IQ and ChromaBlast R1800 drivers provides a complete color management solution for your Hybrid Sub liJet/ChromaBlast printing. It is extremely important that you turn off any color matching features asso ciated with your design software.

- 41 - III. Designing Your Artwork By picking colors from the ColorSure palette, you will be able to consistently reproduce colors in a reliable manner. To assist you in desi gning your artwork, PowerDriver R1800 IQ and ChromaBlast R1800 installs three palettes: two for Adobe products and one for Corel products.
- 42 - How to use Color Finder: Open the PowerDriver window as instructed in “Printing the ColorSure Palette” outlined in Section II. First, make sure you select your desired Substrate , Output (High Speed or High Quality), and the Mirror option from the Printing Preferences window.
- 43 - You may alter the chosen color’s CMYKRB value by selecting two or three Step Colors . Using multiple step colors will present you with a greater range and variety of colors to choose from.
- 44 - Next, determine what Step Size you want to apply to the Colo r Finder palette. This is simply a question of how much you want your Start Color to fluctuate. If your Start Color is close to the color you are looking for, use a low Step Size (i.
- 45 - 1. If you have the original file, sample the co lor that was matched in your graphic design application with the eye dropper tool. This will give you the RGB value of that color. Input this value into the RGB Input Colo r fields of the Custom Palette section.
- 46 - Tips for Successful Sublimation POLYESTER FABRIC Maintain appropriate heat press times. Shortened pressing times will result in good surface color but the sublimat ion dyes will not completely penetrate the polyester fibers. This leaves the dyes more susceptible to wash out.
- 47 - MOISTURE & HUMIDITY PROBLEMS The addition of moisture to the sublimation process can cause unwanted results. Under normal circumstances, the small amount of moisture that can accumulate in your paper is absorbed directly into the transfer substrate; however hard substrates like metal and ceramic are unable to absorb excess moisture.

- 50 - Colors are light and splotchy Ensure you printed on the correct side of the paper. The print side is the bright white side of the paper. Ensure you used a recommended paper. For more information, see the section entitled Selecting Paper .
