5 Intr oduction Yo u r n e w E p s o n ® PhotoPC ® L-410 is a compact digital camera that lets you capture all the special moments in your life and print high-quality photos without a computer .
6 About the Sof tw ar e The CD-R OM that came with your camera includes the following software for Windo ws ® and Macintosh ® : ◗ A selection of PRINT Image F ramer frames for holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions (in addition to the frames already loaded on the camera) ◗ P .
7 Optional A ccessor ies Epson offers an A C adapter (B867062) for use with any standard electrical outlet. This is particularly useful when you are printing from the camera. Y ou can purchase the adapter from the Epson S tore SM at (800) 873-7766 or visit www .
8 Finding Mor e Inf or mation This book includes all the i nformation you need to take pictures and print them r ight from your camera. F or more information, check the following: ◗ The Epson PhotoPC L-410 Camera User’s Guide provides information and instructions for all the camera ’ s features, including troubleshooting tips.
9 Get tin g Star t ed T o start using your camera, all you need to do is install the batteries, turn on the camera, and set the current date. Y ou should also install the software on your computer . F ollow the instructions in this section to get started.
10 Installing the Bat tery 1 T urn the camera upside down. 2 Slide the battery cover until it pops up as shown: 3 Insert the battery into the compartment, posit ioning the + and – ends as shown: Note: You can use either a CR-V3 battery, like the one included with the camera, or two AA batteries.
11 T ur ning Y our Camer a On and Of f ◗ T o turn on the camera, pr ess the POWER button. The lens cov er opens and the lens pops out. ◗ T o turn off the camera, press the POWER button.
12 5 P ress the r button to mo ve to the date. 6 P ress the u or d button to change the month. 7 Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each item on the screen. 8 P ress the OK button. Using Memory Car ds Y ou can take pictures and save them in the camera without a memory card.
13 Installing a Memory Car d 1 Make sure the camera is turned off . 2 Slide the battery cover until it pops up. 3 P osition the card as shown and slide it all the way into the slot: 4 P ress do wn on the battery cover and slide it back into place. Removing a Memory Car d 1 Make sure the camera is turned off .
14 Installing the Sof tw ar e T o take advantage of all of your camera ’ s special features, make sure you install the software on your computer from the CD-R OM that came with the camera. Windows 1 Insert the software CD-R OM in your computer’ s CD-R OM or D VD drive.
15 3 Click Install , then follo w the on-screen instructions to install each program. If yo u do n ’ t h ave Ado be Ac rob at Rea der or QuickT ime on your system, click Custom instead of Install. Select the programs you want to install and click Install.
16 Y ou see the Software Installation screen: 4 Click Install . If you don ’ t have Adobe A crobat on your M acintosh, click Custom instead of Install. Select Adobe Acrobat Reader and click Install. 5 Enter your administrator na me and password if necessary .
17 T aking and V iewing Phot os Y ou can take several different types of photos with your camera, as described below: ◗ Automatic photos: U se automatically adjusted settings for great snapshots.
18 T aking Photos in A ut omatic Mode The automatic photography mode lets you captur e high- resolution images without making an y complicated settings. Y ou can use the zoom buttons to move in closer to your subject and/or set the flash for indoor or low- light photographs.
19 3 Center your subject in the middle of the square focus frame on the screen. The default flas h setting is automatic , indicated by the icon on the LC D screen. The flash will go off automatically whenever necessar y . If you want to change the flash setting, press the r button.
20 Before you start, make sure the batteries ar e installed and the camera is turned on , as described on pages 10 and 11. 1 T urn the Mode dial to manual. If you w ant to turn the LCD scr een off to save battery power , press the DISP button twice. Y ou will have to use the viewfinder inst ead of the screen to frame your shot.
21 If you want to change the flash setting, press the r button. See page 22 for a list of flash settings . 5 P ress and hold the shutter button halfway . The focus frame turns green and the focus is set. If you want to reframe your pictur e, mo ve the camera until the photo you want appears on the scre en.
22 Set tings and Icons Self-timer (2 seconds), (1 0 seconds) F ocus frame Place your subject within the f ocus frame. When you press the shut ter b ut ton halfwa y , the focus frame turns green. Batte r y l ife Zoom bar The digital zoom indicator appears when digital zoom is enabled.
23 Continuous Shooting In Continuous S hooting mode, you can capture a ser ies of photos by holding the shutter button do wn. Y ou can take up to thre e photos per second at maximum speed. Note: To shoot at the maximum speed, you need an SD memory card with a recording/transfer speed of 10MB/second.
24 5 P ress and hold the shutter button halfway . The focus frame turns green and the focus is set. 6 P ress the shutter button all the way down. While the shutter button remains full y pressed, photos will be taken continuously . Recor ding Videos Y ou can record videos with sound.
25 6 If you want to z oom in on your subject, press the T (telephoto) button. (Y ou can ’ t zoom in or out once you start recor ding.) 7 P ress the shutter button all the way do wn to start reco rdin g. 8 P ress the shutter button again to stop r ecording.
26 Y ou can also modify the frames or create original frames using PIF Designer . See pages 14 to 15 for instructions on installing the software. T o take a picture with a frame: 1 T urn the Mode dial to automatic or manual. 2 P ress the P .I.F . button.
27 7 P ress the shutter button all the way do wn. The camera beeps as it captures your picture. Y ou can now print your framed picture dir ectly from the camera on supported Epson printers. F or instructions on printing from the camera, see page 31. Note: You can also add or change a frame on an existing picture in your camera.
28 2 T o view 6 photos at once, press the W button. ◗ T o select a photo, press the u d l r buttons. ◗ T o view the selected photo with the full screen, press the T or OK button. Deleting Phot os Y ou can easily dele te the curr ently display ed image, a series of images, or all images in the camera.
29 8 P ress the MENU button twice to exit the menu. A dding or Changing Fr ames Y ou can add or change a P .I.F . frame on an existing photo, using any of the frames stor ed in your camera or on your memory card. See page 25 for more information about P .

31 Pr inting Y our Phot os Y ou can print your photos directly fr om the camera to supported Epson printers, using Epson 4 × 6 P remium Glossy Photo P aper . Y ou can include the date the photo was taken, print with or without borders, or print an “ album ” of several photos on one 4 × 6-inch sheet of paper .
32 Y ou can also run maintenance programs for the Epson S tylus Photo R200 printer directly from the camera. F or instructions, see the Camera User’s Guide on your computer . See page 14 for instructions on installing the guide and software. Note: Future products may be added to the list of supported printers.

34 Pr inting Photos Y ou can print all the photos in the camera, or select the ones you want to print. Images with P .I.F . frames must be printed directly from the camera.

39 Solving Pr oblems Before you call for help , check this list of common problems and possible solutions. F or more troubleshooting tips, check the Camera Use r’s Guide on your computer . Camer a Pr oblems The camera has no pow er . ◗ The camera may have shut off automatically to save power .
40 The camera does not r eact when you pr ess the buttons. ◗ If the lights on the back of the camera are flashing, tr y turning the camera off and then on again. ◗ If the power does not turn off , remo ve the battery , reinstall it, and turn the pow er on.
41 N othing appears on the LCD screen. ◗ The screen may have shut off automatically to save power . P ress any button or turn the M ode dial. ◗ P ress the DISP button to change the LCD scr een setting. ◗ When the camera is connected to a printer or computer , the L CD screen is disabled.
42 Images ar e too dark (under exposed) or too bright (over exposed). ◗ Make sure the flash is not set to (flash off ) . ◗ If you ar e using the flash, make sur e you are within range (between 2.3 and 8.5 feet for automatic mode). See the Camera User’s Guide on your computer for more information.
43 The wrong date and/or time is printed. T urn the Mode dial to SETUP and pr ess the r button to select Setup Menu 2 . U se the d button to select Date/Time , then adjust the setting. See page 11 for more information. Y ou see an error message when you try to open the Camera User’s Guide .
44 Not enough free space in the camera’ s memory (or memor y card). Make room b y deleting photos. See page 28 for instr uctions. This frame cannot be used with this camera. The file size of the frame e xceeds the camera’ s limit. Use the PIF Designer sof tware t o simplify the frame.
