If a used ribbon cartri dge is install ed, gr asp the c artrid ge by its ha nd le and p ul l it up an d ou t of the prin ter.
8. Ho ld the ribbo n ca rtridg e by its handl e and push it firm ly dow n into p ositi on; th en pre ss down on both ends o f the cartri dge to fi t the plast ic h ooks into t he s lots.
10. Slide th e pr int head from side to side to make sure it mo ves smoot hl y. Also chec k that the ribbo n is not twist ed or creased . 11. Install th e paper tensi on unit by pl acing it on th e pr inter’s mount in g pe gs and lo weri ng it in to place .

2. Ch eck the la bel on the bac k of th e printe r to make sure its voltag e match es that of you r electr ical out let. Al so make sure t he plu g on you r prin ter’s po wer co rd ma tches you r electr ical outle t. c Cauti on: It is not possible to change the printer’s voltage.

2. Tu rn off your prin ter and co m puter, if necessa ry. c Cauti on: Whenever you turn off the printer, wait at least five seconds before turning it back on; otherwise, you may damage the printer. 3. First turn on your p rinte r and the n turn on the compu ter.

Loading Mul ti-P art Forms You can use carbonless multi-part forms of up to six parts (five copie s on top of the orig inal). Ma ke sure you set the pa per thic kness le ver t o th e prop er positi on ba sed on the nu mber o f laye rs in you r form .
You lo ad l abels the same way you l oad or dinary conti nuous paper , except you m ust set the paper th ickness lever to 2 before pri nt ing on labels. See “Lo ading pa per with the pull trac tor” later in this chapte r for more info rmation . c Cauti on: q It is best to load continuous paper with labels on the pull tractor.

Removing the tractor from t he front push positi on To remo ve th e tr ac tor fro m the fron t pu sh po sit io n, foll ow the steps below. 1. Make s ur e th e prin te r is tu rn ed off . 2. Remov e any pape r from th e trac to r as de scrib e d in the previ ous sect ion.
Installing the t ractor in the rear push posi tion Before instal ling t he tra ctor in the re ar push positi on, rem ove it from its cu rren t po s it io n. If th e tr ac to r is in the fron t pu sh posit io n, remov e it by pre ss in g th e tr ac tor’ s lo ck tab s wh ile lift ing it out.

10. After you finish printing, follow the steps in the next section to remove your printe d docum en t. If the firs t line on yo ur page ap pe ars too hig h or low, yo u ca n chan ge its po sit io n usi ng the micr o adj ust fe at ur e as de scr ib e d in “A djusti ng the Top-of -Form P osition ” on page 3-35.

1. Ma ke sure that th e prin ter is turned off. Th en lift the pri nter cover by its back edge and pull it str aight up and off the prin ter. 2. Press u p the tabs on each side of the pap er ten sion un it and lift th e un it up an d of f th e prin te r.
3. A ttach th e paper gu id e if nece ssar y, and lay it flat on the prin ter. 4. Lo wer th e trac tor into the p rinter ’s mounti ng slot s and p ress down bot h ends of the trac tor to make sure that it is firm ly seated. 2 1 f x3-3 G3 -20 L Gentian-W Rev.
Loading paper with the pull t ractor Note: If you plan to load paper fro m the rear, you need to insert the paper into the paper path before installing the paper guide and tractor. To loa d pa per on to t he p ull tr acto r, fo llow t he s teps b elo w.
3. Rel ease the spr ockets by pull ing the spr ocket lock levers forward. 4. Slid e the left spr ocket ap proxi m ately 12 mm (0.5 inch ) from the far le ft po sitio n an d push th e le ver back to lock it in place . Then slide th e ri ght spr oc ket to matc h the wi dt h of your pa per, but do not lock it .
6. In se r t th e pape r in to the fron t or bo tt om pa per s lo t as descri bed be low un til it emer ges betwee n the plat en and the ribbo n guid e. Then pull up the pape r un til the perfo ra tion be tw ee n the f ir st an d sec on d pa ge s is even with the to p of th e pr in ter’s rib b on .

w Warning: Do not reconnect the power cord to an electrical outlet that has the wrong voltage for your printer. The printer does not work and the control panel lights ar e off even when you turn on the pr inter. Cause What to do The powe r cord is not properly plugged into the electrical outlet or your printer.
The paper on the paper guide is positioned too far to the left or right for the pr inter to detect that it is there. Move the paper (a n d the ed ge guides) a little to the left or right. Single-sheet paper is not loaded properly. Se e Ch apte r 4 fo r in struc t ions on loading single-sheet paper.
Too many sheets are loa ded in the cut-sheet feeder. You cannot load mor e than 150 sheets of paper in the high-capacity cut-sheet feeder. Load less than 150 sheets of paper. See Appendix A for more information. The edge guides of the cut-sheet feeder are not positioned correctly.
The printer does not feed continuous paper to the standby position. Cause What to do You have no t torn off the printed pages be fore pressing the Load/ Eject button. Tear off the printed pages at the perforation. Then press the Load/Eject button to feed the paper backward to the standby position.
The printe r driver settings you want to use a re not selected in your software. Cho ose t he c orrect prin ter driver setti n g fr om the Wind ows de sktop or in your application before pr inting. You moved the pape r using the knob while the printer was on.
The paper size setting in your application or printer driver does not match the size of the paper you are using. Check the paper size setting in your application or printer driver. The printer’s page length settings for the front or rear tractor do not match the size of the paper you are using.
The printer makes noise, but nothing prints or pr inting stops abruptly. Cause What to do The paper thickness lever is set incorrectly. Set the paper thickness lever to match the thickness of your paper. See “Setting the Paper Thickness Leve r” in Chapte r 3.
Lines of dots are miss ing in the printout. Cause What to do The print head is damaged. Stop printing and contact your deal er to ha ve t he pri nt hea d rep laced. c Caution: Never replace the print head yourself; you may damage the printer. Also, other parts of the printer must be chec ked when the print head is replaced.
The printer prints strange symbols, incorrect fonts, or other inapp ropria te c harac ters . Cause What to do Your printer and computer are not communicating correc tly. Make sur e that you use the correc t inte rface cable and tha t the communications proto col is correct.
Vertical printed lines are not aligned. Cause What to do Bidirectional printing, which is the printer’s standard printing mode, is out of alignment. Use t h e p rinte r’ s bidir ectiona l adjustment mode to correc t this problem. See “Aligning Vertical Lines in Your Printout” on page 7-14.
