4 CHA PTER I: PRODUC T INFORMATION 1-1 Introductio n Thank you for purchasing the Edimax 3G -6218n 150Mbps Wireless 3G P ortable Router! This 3G router is the ide al choice for anyone who is constan tly on the go.
5 1- 2 Safety Informati on Please follow the following safety instruc tions to ensure your sa fety: This router is design ed for ind oor use only. DO NOT place this route r outdoors. DO NOT pu t this router in or n ear hot or humid places like the kitchen, bathroom, or a car parke d in the sun.

9 CHA PTER II: SYSTEM AND NETWORK S ETUP 2-1 Getting Sta rted Before you start u sing this 3G router, please follow the following instructions to install an d charge th e battery. 1. Remove th e battery cover, insert the sup plied battery into the slot, and then replac e the batt ery cover.
10 Note: You can power the route r via a wall sock et without th e battery installed; but powering the router via a comp uter without th e battery installed might cause decreased performance. 3. The “CHG” L ED will go on when the battery is charging.
11 6. Connec t the router to your comp uter via an Ethernet cab le. Note: It is rec ommended th at you configure the router through the Ethernet p ort for the first time. 7. Please check all the LEDs. The “PWR/CHR” LED should b e on, and the “ETHERNET” LED should be on if a computer/n etwork device is c onnected an d correctly powered.
12 Method 2: Setting up the route r with the web -based UI If you lo se the CD -ROM, you can setup th e router with the following steps (web-based u ser interface).

26 2-4 Using “ Quick Set up ” This broadband router’s “Quick Setup” allows you to set up b asic parameters in a few si mple step s. The following instructions illustrate how to use th e “Quick Setu p” menu: 1. Click “Quick Setup” after loggin g in.

29 No te 1: Th e 3G -6218n supports most 3G/3 .5G modem c ards. You can simp ly connect the modem card to the 3G - 6218n and the route r will recognize the modem c ard automatically. No add itional setup procedures are required . However, some modem cards require a PIN code or accoun t/password.
30 2-4-2 Using “ Dynam ic IP ” as bro adband connecti on type 4. If your I nternet service p rovider assigns IP ad dresses to you automatic ally through DHCP (Dynam ic Host Configuration Prot ocol), select “Dynam ic IP”. Item Name Description Host Name I nput the host name of your comp uter here.
31 2-4-3 Using “ Static I P ” as broad band connection typ e 1. If your I SP is providing you Internet acc ess via a fixed IP address, select “Static IP”. Generally, your ISP will provide you with suc h information as I P address, subn et mask, gateway ad dress, and DNS address.
32 2-4-4 Using “ PPPoE ” as broadband con nection type 1. If your I SP is providing you Internet acc ess via PPPoE (Point- to -Point Protocol ove r Ethernet) , select “PPPoE”. Item Name Description User Name I nput the user name assigned by your ISP here.

40 2- 5 Using “iQoS” “ iQoS ” is Edimax ’ s an sw er to the need for a q uick and easy way to manage internet bandwidth . Its intuitive and frien dly user interfac e allows you to arrange your bandwid th priorities in a few simple steps. 1. First, click “ iQoS ” to a ccess the iQoS user interface.

42 CHAP TER III: GENERAL SETUP You can p erform advanced configuration of this broadban d router in “ General Setup ” . T he following are inst ructions on h ow to use “ General Setup ” : 1. Click “ General Setu p ” after logging in. 2. All available setu p items will appear as a l ist under ‘General Setup’ tab: 3.
43 3-1 System You can setup basic system settings of this broadb and router in ‘System’ menu : Please select the setting item you wish to set, then click ‘Apply’ button to proceed. You can also click ‘P revious’ button to b ack to ‘System’ m enu.
44 3-1-1 Time Zone You can change the time zone settings of this b roadband route r. It’s important to have correct date and time setting if you need to read system log and use build-in firewall functions.
45 3-1-2 Password Se ttings You can change the web login p assword of this broadb and router. I f you keep u sing the default passwo rd ‘1234’, other p eople may access t he configuration int erface without your permission. P lease change the password as soon as p ossible.
46 3-1-3 Remote Manag ement If you nee d to manage this broad band router outside of your LAN (i.e . from Interne t), you can use this function to assign a remote IP address which is permitted to connect to this broadband router’s web man agement interface from Internet.
47 Please click ‘Apply’ to save ch anges you made and restart th e broadband router, this requires about 30 seconds and the broadband rou ter will stop respond ing (this is normal and is not m alfunction). You c an reconnect to th is broadband router and continue on other settings later.
48 3-2 WAN You can setup WAN (Wide Area Network, i.e. I nternet) connections of this broad band router in ‘WAN’ menu: Please select the WAN conn ection type you wish to use to setup I nternet connection, and click ‘App ly’ to save change s you made.
49 3-2-1 3G/3.5 G Settings 1. If you want to access the In ternet via a 3G/3.5G USB m odem card, select “ 3G/3.5G Settings ” . Item Name De scription Country Select your coun try or region here.

93 WPA RADIUS If you have RADIUS authen tication server on your local network, you can authen ti cate the wireless clients by RADIUS server’s user datab ase. Only auth enticated c lients can establish wireless connec tion with this b roadband router.

108 3-5-4 DMZ Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a spec ial area in your loc al network. This area resides in local network, and all compute rs in this area u ses private IP ad dress, too. Bu t these p rivate IP addresses are m apped to a certain Inte rnet IP address, so othe r people on In ternet can fully access those computers in DMZ.
