IMPORTANT Connect th e speakers, antenn as, and all optional equ ipm ent first. Then connect the A C c ord. There are no differences betw een th e front speakers as w ell as th e surround speak ers. Both speakers of its kin d can be connected as L (left) or R (rig ht).
5 Connect the video equipm ent. Connect the VIDEO/AUX jack of this unit to the audio output j ack of the video equipment w ith an optional audio connectin g cord. 6 Connect the T elevisi on to the video eq uipm ent. Refer to the Operatin g Instructions of the connected equipm ent for details.

When to replace the batteries The maximu m operatio nal distance between the rem ote co ntro l and the sensor on the main unit should be appr oxim ately 5 meters (16 f eet). W h en this distance decreases, replace the batteries w ith new on es. Using the rem ote control The instructions in this manual refer mainly to the b uttons on the m ain unit.
To turn the power on Press one of the function butto ns ( TAPE, TUNER, VIDEO/AUX, CD, M D ). Playback of the inserted disc begins, or th e previously tu ned station is received (Direct Play Function). POWER is also available. When the unit is turned on, the disc compartm ent may open and close to reset the un it.
When the AC c ord is p l ugge d in f or the first time af ter p urchase, the game Demo w ill begin in the d isplay . W hen the power is turned on, the game Dem o will end. Until the clock is set , the game Dem o will automatically b egin w henever the power is turned off.

However, if the clo ck is not set, the gam e Demo will begin w hen th e powe r is turned off.
The mode will be automatically set after 4 seconds. It will also be set if ENTER is pressed within 4 seconds after step 3. To view the clock when all the displ ay lights turn off, press CLOCK so that the time is displayed for 4 seconds. PROGRA M MED PLA Y Up to 30 tracks can be programm ed from an y of th e inserted disc. Use the rem o te control. 1 Press PRGM twice in stop mode. PRGM indi cator lights u p on the display . • When PRGM is pressed on ce in step 1, the unit enters KA RAOKE PROGRAM (page 24).
Each tim e or is pressed i n stop mode, a di sc nu mber, track number, and program number w ill be d ispla yed . To clear the program Press CLEAR in stop m ode. To add track s to the program Repeat steps 2 and 3 in stop mode. The track will be program med after the last track.
Keep DOW N or UP p ressed until the frequency starts to change rapidly. Af ter tuning in to a station, the search stops. To stop the Auto Search manually , press DOWN or UP .
PRESET NUMBER TUNI NG Use the rem o te control to select the preset num ber directly. 1 Press THUNDERBIRD to select a band. 2 Press num bered buttons 0-9 and + 10 to select a preset num ber. Example: To select preset nu mber 15, press +10 and 5. To select preset nu mber 20, press +10, +10 and 0.

For tapes recorded with DOLBY NR, turn on NR. For tapes record ed w ithout DOLBY NR, turn off NR. 2 Press to start play. : The fron t side is being play ed (forward). : The back si de is bein g pl ayed (reverse). When tapes are loaded in both decks Press TAP E/DECK 1 /2 first to select a deck .
If there is a 4- second or longer blank betw een each track, a search f o r th e beginning of the current or next track during playback can be done easily . When or butto n is flashing, press to move to the next track or to m o ve to the beginni ng of the cu rrent track.
• Tak e up any slack in the tape with a pencil or similar tool before use. Slack tape may break or jam in the mech anism. DOLBY NR system The Dolby Noise Reduction system reduces tape h iss noise. For optimu m perform ance when playin g back a tape recorded with th e DOLBY NR system , turn on the DOUBLER system .
To record with DOL BY NR, turn on NR. To record w ithout DOLBY NR, turn off NR. 4 Press function (CD,TUNER/BAND,VIDEO/AUX or MD) and prepare the source to be recorded. To record from a CD, pr ess CD and load th e disc(s). To record fro m a radio broadcast, press TUNER/BAND and tune in to a station.
MU TE again . Each time the button is pressed, a 4-second blank space is added. "Can't REC" is displayed if you attem pt to record o n a tape w ith the pl astic t abs broken off . To erase a recording Make sure the m icrophone(s) is(are) not conn ected to this unit and set the m icrophone volum e and the echo level to OFF.
Press . To set the Dolby NR w hen playing back the dubbed tape Press DOLB Y NR and turn Dolby NR on or off to match the original tape. DUBBING THE WHOLE TA PE This fu nction allow s you to make ex act copies of both s ides of the orig inal tape.
• Recordin g does not start, if the erasure preven tion tab on either si de of th e tape is broken of f. • If the leader segm ent of the tape to be recorded on is longer than that of the original tap e , reco rding on the reverse side may stop m idway thro ugh the recording.

To change the p rogram of each si de Press CD EDIT/CHECK t o select side A or B, an d press CLEAR to clear the program of the selected side. Then program tracks again. To clear the edit program Press twice so that "EDIT" disappears on the display.
Use the rem o te control. 1 Press DOLBY PRO LOGIC to select NORMAL. "NORMAL" is displayed. If "PHANTOM" or " 3 STEREO" is displayed, press DOLBY PRO LOGIC repeatedly until "NORMAL " is sel ected. 2 Press M ANUAL SELECT a nd hold it down fo r a bout four seconds until "L" fla shes .

• Vocal Fader The singe r's voi ce becom es softer than th e accompanimen t. ‚ Auto Vocal Fader The singer 's voice becomes softe r only while there is audio inp ut through microphones. ƒ Multiplex The sound on the lef t channel is heard f rom both speakers, and the sound on th e right channel is mu ted .
Before or during C D play, you can reserve up to 15 tracks to be played af ter the current track. Each reserv ation is cleared wh en it finishes play ing. Use the rem o te control. 1 Press CD and load the discs. 2 Press PRGM once . 3 Press DISC DIRECT PLA Y, th en press one of t he num bered buttons 1- 5 within 3 seconds to select a disc.

The c lock is displa y e d . (The " :" b e tw ee n the ho urs and minutes flashes.) When the power co rd is plugged into an AC outlet for the f irst time after purch ase or when th e clock setting is canceled due to a pow er failure, the entire clock display flashes.
The unit can be tu rned off autom atically at a specified tim e. Use the rem o te control. 1 Press SLEEP . 2 Within 4 seconds, press or to specify the tim e until the power is turned off. Each tim e the button is pressed, the tim e changes betw een 5 and 240 minutes in 5-minute steps.
The unit can be turned o n at a specif ied tim e every day w ith the built-in timer. Preparation Make sure the clock is set correctly. 1 Press one of the function buttons to select a source. • If TUNER/BAND is pressed, the b a nd cannot be selected in this ste p.

When a DVD play er is connected to the 5.1 CH INPUT jacks of this unit, y o u can listen to DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND sound, wh ich enables you to enjoy theater-quality so und in your home. 1 Press VIDEO/AUX repeatedly until "5.1ch IN" is displayed.
