R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 8 Utilities for the Raven X Wireless Ace W ireless Ace enables modems equipped with ALEOS to be monitored and configured locally or remotely .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 9 Utilities for the Raven X AceNet AceNet’ s remote connections use TCP/IP , UDP , or SMS. AceNet is a separate product which can be purcha sed from AirLi nk. Contact your AirLink repre - sentative for more information.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 10 Utilities for the Raven X Modem Doctor Modem Doctor is a troubleshooti ng and di agnostics utility .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 11 CHAPTER 4 IP Manager and DNS If you have a fleet of AirLink modems or even if you only have one, it can be difficult to keep track of the current IP addresses, esp ecially if the addresses aren’t st atic but change every time the modems connect to V eri zon.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 12 IP Manager and DNS Fully Qualified Domain Name A domain name is a name of a server or device on the Internet which is associated with an IP address.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 13 IP Manager and DNS Dynamic Names When an IP address is no t expected to change, th e DNS server can indicate to all queries that the address can be cached and not look ed up for a long period of ti me.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 14 IP Manager and DNS *MODEMNAME: The name you wa nt fo r the m odem. *DOMAI N: The domain nam e to be used by the modem . *IPMANAGER1 and *IPMA NAGER2: The IP address or domain name of the dynamic DNS server which is running IP Manager .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 15 IP Manager and DNS DNS: Using Names Instead of IP addresses The Raven X has the ability to query DNS servers in order to translat e do main names into IP addresses.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 16 IP Manager and DNS PPP-Peer Note: If you will be using your Raven X to communicate with anot her AirLink modem and both are using IP Manager to translate dynamic IP addresses to domain names, it is recommended that yo u set *DNSUSER to the IP address for IP Manager .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 17 CHAPTER 5 Data Communication and Host Modes The Raven X plays the part of a HOST when a co mputer or another device is connected to its serial or Ethern et port. The Raven X can also route data to/from the connected device to the cellu - lar network.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 18 Data Communication and Host Modes AT M o d e Using a terminal connection, A T commands are used to configur e the modem , command it t o do something, or query a setting. For a full li sting of the A T commands, refer to page 47.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 19 Data Communication and Host Modes If Q=1 (Quiet On), n o result codes are ou tput whatsoever , so there is no response generated by a (non query) command. If Q=0 (Quiet Off), result codes are output.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 20 Data Communication and Host Modes Some internal hardware req uires upwards of 20 seconds before A T commands can be entered, so be patient if there seems to be no response to A T commands.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 21 Data Communication and Host Modes FIGURE 5. Wireless Ace: T elnet Configuration PPP Mode In PPP mode, the Raven X acts as a PPP server , p rov idi ng an IP address, and DNS servers (if available) to the Host.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 22 Data Communication and Host Modes Slip Mode SLIP mode is entered be using the " AT A S L I P " command. As in PPP M ode, the IP address that the host assumes is af fected by the setting of *HOSTPRIVMODE .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 23 Data Communication and Host Modes When idle, after the time-out has occurred, th e modem is in A T com mand mode on the serial port, and any valid A T command may be entered during this ti me.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 24 Data Communication and Host Modes TCP P AD When the Raven X is in a TCP session, all char acters received on the serial port are assem.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 25 Data Communication and Host Modes Public and Private Mode By default, the Raven X is in Public Mode and will pass the IP address assigned by the V erizon network to the devices connected to its ports.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 26 Data Communication and Host Modes DHCP and Routing DHCP is built on a client-server model. The client broadcasts on the local physi cal subnet to find available DHCP servers (generally only one active per network).
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 27 Data Communication and Host Modes Keepalive Keepalive is used to test the Raven X’ s connection by pinging an IP address after a specified period of inactivity .
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 28 Data Communication and Host Modes Data usage using Keepalive Keepalive is an optional feature. If you frequently pass data with your m odem, you most likel y do not need to have Keepalive enabled.
R aven X EV -DO fo r V e riz on - Use r Gu ide, ve rsion 2.3 4 29 CHAPTER 6 Modbus/BSAP Configuration The Raven X supports Modbus ASCII, Modbus R TU, BSAP , and can also emulate other pro tocols like DF1 or others using its Modbus V ariable feature.
