By default, the device is in Unmanaged mode. These modes are described below : • Managed Mode — In this mode: – Switch can be managed through the web interface.

If the system is switched to unmanaged mode via the Managed Mode bu tton, the system does not load the saved configuration, but it is still maintain ed in the device’s local stora ge.

Once enabled, it prevents users from making any furt her configuration changes to the sw itch. This is done by r emoving the IP address of the switch so that it becomes inaccessible.

The authentication port is used to verify the RADIUS server authentication. • Number of Retries (1-10) — Specifies the number of transmitted requests sent to RADIUS server before a failure occurs.

Dell PowerConnect 28xx Systems User Guide 81 Configuration Download • Server IP Address — The Server IP Address from which the configuration files a re downloaded. • Source F ile Name — Indicates the configuration files to be downloaded. During the imag e file download, a dialog box opens which displays the download progress.
82 Dell PowerConnect 28xx Systems User Guide The F ile Upload to Server page contains the following fields: • Upload via TFTP — Enables initiating upload via the TFTP server . • Upload via HTTP — Enables initiating upload via the FT P server .
Dell PowerConnect 28xx Systems User Guide 83 Defining DHCP Server Settings The DHCP server is used mainly for centrali zed control over assignmen t of IP addresses to attached hosts. A switch can operate as either a DHCP client (obt aining its own IP from a DHCP server) as a DHCP server .

86 Dell PowerConnect 28xx Systems User Guide – Days — Specifies the duration of the lease in number of days. The range is 0 to 49710 days. – Hours — Specifies the number of hours in the lease. A days value must be supplied before an hours value can be add ed.

Use Advanced Settings to set miscellaneous global attributes for the device. The changes to these attributes are applied only after the device is reset.

94 Dell PowerConnect 28xx Systems User Guide Advanced P ort Based Authenti cation is implemented in the following modes: • Single Host Mode — Enables only the author ized host for sin gle-session access to the p ort. • Multiple Host Mode — Enables multiple hosts to be attached to a single port, for single-session access.
