DSL-302G ADSL Ethernet Modem User’s Guide 3 About This User’s Guide This user’s guide provides instruct ions on how to in stall the DSL-302G ADSL M odem and use it to connect a computer (or two computers) to the Internet.

Introduction This section provides a brief descri ption of the Modem, its associated t echnologies and a list of Modem features. What is ADSL? Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is an access te.
Front Panel Place the Modem in a location that allo ws a view of the LED indicators. To save space you can use the feet to stand the device on either its right or left side. Front Panel Rear Panel All cable connections to the Modem are ma de at the rear panel.
LED Indicators LED Indicators The LED Indicators read as follows: Pow er Steady green light indicates the unit is powered on. Status Lights steady green during the ADSL negoti ation phase & connection stage. ADSL: Link Steady green light indicates a valid ADSL conn ection.
Hardware Installation This chapter describes the various network cabl e and power connections required to use the Modem. Modem Location When selecting the location for the Modem be sure to allow room to access the connections on the rear panel. You will want to place the Modem so that you will be ab le to see the LED indicators on the front panel.
Software Installation In order to install th e software driv er for the Mod em, you first need to install the DSL-300 Configuration Utility , D-Link’s GUI based m anagement software. This software can late r be used to monitor the devi ce or change its settings.
3. The User Information window asks you for your nam e and company name. Ente r this inform ation in the appropriate field and cl ick Next . 4. In the Choose Destination Locat ion window you may accept to install th e Configuration Utility in the automati cally chosen directory by clicking Next .
6. The Start Copying Fi les window provides an opportunity t o review th e inform ation you have just entered. If you are satisfied with the info rmation as it is listed, click Next . If you need to change any of the information click Back to go to the previous window(s) to make t he changes.

Configure the Modem With the Con figuration Utility software in stalled, you are ready to co nfigure the Mo dem. You must enter the VPI and VCI values that have been given to y ou by your ADSL servi ce provider to define the path of connection to the ATM network backbone.
Type in these numbers in the ADSL Settin g field and click Finish . 4. The Save configurati on and restart system window will appear. You will be asked if you would like to save the changes you have made (t he VPI and VCI numbers) and restart the Modem.
Install the USB Driver To install the USB dri ver for a computer-attached confi guration with a computer running a Windows operating system, follow the procedure below. 1. Installing the PC (Ethernet Client) Driver To install the PC (Et hernet Client) driver for a PC -attached configuration on a PC running Windows 98 SE/Windows 2000, follow the procedure below: Note: If.

Modem Diagnostics The Configur ation Utility can be used to monitor the activity and performance of the Modem. The fou r status windows are read-only with the excepti on of the General ADSL Information. Once you have set the VCI and VPI values there shoul d not be any need to change them .
The General ADSL In formation menu displays information on packet s received and transm itted via the ADSL line as well as the ADSL settings. This is where you can change the VCI and VPI values, as described in the previous section.
The Advanced ADSL Information me nu lists information about errors, signal characteristics and loop distance. The data provided in the Advanced ADSL Inform ation window includes: ♦ Re_training – n.

B DSL-302G Firmware Upgrade Utility You can update system firm ware using the DSL-302G Firmware Upgr ade Utility. To upgrade the Modem’s firmware you must have installed this software on the PC yo u wish to use for this p urpose. Install the u tility by clicking the self-executin g file setup.
In the new window, you will see the MAC address of the Modem and the IP address of the PC you are using. The PC and the Modem must be on the sam e subnet fo r the upgrade to be comple ted. The upgrade utility will suggest a new IP address to be temporarily assigned t o the device during the firm ware upgrade procedure.
