D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 3 Switch Description and Function The DHS-3224V VDSL Switch is an Ethernet-based switch capable of delivering VDSL service via in stalled telephone cabl ing. Up to 24 VDSL acco unts can be m anaged per Switc h and up to 6 Switches can be set up in a stacked group configur ation.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 15 Network Connections to DSL Splitter The SP-24 DSL Splitter connects VDSL subscribers to both voice and data chann els. All interfaces on the DSL Splitter are female RJ-21 ports. All connectio n to the DSL Splitter should be made using Telco50 cabling with male RJ-21 connectors.
D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 16 Cable Attachments to DSL Splitter There are two styles of connectors use d for RJ-21 cable connectio ns. The rec ommende d style fo r all RJ-21 connections on the Switch and Splitter is the 90-deg ree connector picture in Figure 4-5 below.

A ground connection for this purpose is located on the front panel of the Splitter (near the D-LINK logo). Use 10 – 12 gauge (or heavier) copper wire for grounding the Splitter.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 25 Spanning Tree Protocol The IEEE 802.1D Spa nning Tree Protoc ol (STP) allows for the bloc king of links bet ween switches that form loops within the network. When multiple links between switch es are detected, a primary link is established.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 36 Configuring VLANs The switch initially configur es one VLAN, VID = 1, called the DE FAULT_VLAN. The factory default setti ng assigns all ports on the switch to the DEFAULT_VLAN. As new VLANs are conf igured, there respective member ports are remove d from the DEFAULT_VLAN.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 38 6 Configuring the Switch The DHS-3224V Switch is configured using a console mana gement interface. Any PC with a terminal emulator program can be used to manage th e Switch out-of-band via the RS-232 conso le port.
D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 39 Connecting to the Switch Using Telnet Once you have set an IP address for your Switch , you can use a Telnet program (in a VT-100 com patible terminal mode) to access and control the Switch. Most of the screens ar e identical, whether accessed from the console port or from a Telnet interface.

You can attach a monitoring device to th e mirrored port, such as a sniffer or an RMON probe, to view details about the packets passing through the first port.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 71 Configure IGMP Snooping When enabled for IGM P snoopi ng, the Switch can open or close a port to a specific M ulticast group member based on IGM P messages se nt from the de vice to the I GMP host or vice versa.

D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 76 Asymmetric VLANs Use Asymmetric VLANs to assign a unique PVID to each port on the Switch or stacked group. This may be a more conveni ent way to assi gn VLANs if you sim ply want to give each cli ent port it s own separate VLAN.
D-Link DHS-3224V Switc h User’s Guide 77 Configure Port Priority Use the Setup Port Priority to conf i gure priority settings for each port. To configu re port pri ority, hig hlight Pri ority on the M ain Menu and press Enter to see t he following screen: Figure 6- 47.

Also, the TFTP server must be runni ng TFTP se rver software to pe rform the file transfer. TFTP serv er software is a part of many netwo rk management softwa re packages, or can be obtained as a separate program.
