About This Guide...................................................................................................................................................................................... 5 Purpose ..........................................
ABOUT THIS GUIDE Congratulations on you r purchase of the Web Smart 48+2G-Port 10 /100/1000Mbps/SFP Switch. This d evice integrates 1000Mbp s Gigabit Ethernet, 100Mbps Fast Ethernet, an d 10Mbps Ethernet network capab ilities in a highly flexib le package.
INTRODUCTION This chapter describes the features of the Web-Smart 48+2G-P o rt 10/100/1000Mbps/ SFP Switch and some background information about Ethernet/Fast Ethernet/Gigab it Eth ernet switching technology. Gigabit Ethernet Technology Gigabit Ethernet is an extension of IEEE 802.
VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) A VLAN is a gro up of end-stati ons that are not const rained by their physical location an d can communi cate as if a common broad c ast domain, a LAN. The primary utility of using VLAN is to reduce late ncy and the need for routers, by us ing faster switching inste ad.
Features 48×10/100M bps Auto-neg otiation Fast Ethernet RJ -45 ports 2×10/100/10 00Mb ps Au to-negotiatio n Gigabit RJ-45 por ts 2×mini-GB IC/SFP ports, share with the 2 gigabit c opper.
UNPACKING AND INSTALLATIO N This chapte r provides unpacking an d installat ion inform ation for the Switch. Unpacking Open the shi pping carto ns of the Swi tch and caref ully unpacks i ts contents .
AC Power The Switch uses a 100-240V AC, 50-60 Hz AC power supply . The powe r switch is located at the rear of the unit adjacent to the AC power connector and the system fan. The Switch’ s pow er supply will adjust to the local power source automaticall y and may be turned on without having a ny or all LAN segment cables connected.
IDENTIFYING EXTER NAL COMP ONENTS This chapter describes the front pane l, rear panel, an d LED indicators of the Switch. Front Panel The figure below shows the front pan els of the Switch.
UNDERSTANDING LED INDI CATO RS The front panel LEDs prov ide in stant status feedback, and he lp monitor and troubleshoot w hen needed. Figure 5. LED indicat o rs of the Swit ch Power and System LEDs POWER: Power Indicator On : When the Power LED lights on, the Switch is receiving power.
On (Amber) When the Amber light is on, the respective port is connected to a 100Mbps Fast Ethernet network. Off : When the respective port is connect ed to a 10Mbps Ethernet or No link.
