1 Chapter 1: Introduction This chapter introduces CyberLink Powe rDirector and the digital video editing process. It also provides an overview of the program, outlines all of the new features, a nd includes the system requirements f or this version of CyberLink Powe r Di re c t or.

Chapter 1: Introduction 5 Upgrade Y our Software Software upgrades are available from Cybe rLink. T o upgrade your soft ware, click the Upgrade button on the About CyberLink P owerDirector window . The Upgrade window will open and you can selec t to download new upgrades and updat es for CyberL ink P owerDirector .
CyberLink P owerDirector 6 System R equirements The system requirements listed below are recommended as minimums f or general digital video production work. 9 Chapter 2: The P owerDirector W orkspace This chapter outlines the CyberLink P owerDirector workspace , and all of its features. The workspace is where y ou wi ll spend most of y our time within CyberLin k Po werDirector , so getting familiar with ever ything is has to offer will be helpful.
CyberLink P owerDirector 10 R ooms The various rooms within the Edit module of CyberLink P owerDirec tor are where you ca n access all of your med ia, ef fec ts, titles, and transition s when editing your video. Y ou can also gain access to controls for recor ding and mixing audio, adding chapters or subtitles.
Chapter 2: The Po werDirector W orkspace 11 Pa rt i c l e Ro om The P ar ticle Room contains a library of effects that are placed on the PiP track to add a particle effect (snow , dust, smoke, etc .
CyberLink P owerDirector 12 Subtitle R oom Within in the Subtitle Room you can add subtitles to your video produc tion manually or through the impor t of a T XT or an SR T file.

Chapter 2: The Po werDirector W orkspace 15 Preview W indow While creating your video production, pr ev iew your production in the preview window using the available playback controls. Click the Clip button to play back the clip that is selec ted in the timeline, or Movie to play the entire video production.
CyberLink P owerDirector 16 Display/Preview Options CyberLin k Po werDirector includes some display and preview options that help make your editing experience easier . Click on to enable the T V safe zone, display grid lines, use a dual pr eview , and select a preview mode.
Chapter 2: The Po werDirector W orkspace 17 • Non Real-time : mutes the audio and displays a preview at a reduced speed t o help make editing much more fluid. Usef ul when editing high-definition video, using multiple PiP tracks on a less powerful computer , or when you receive dropped frames when previ ewing.
CyberLink P owerDirector 18 Media T racks The timeline contains the follo wing tracks: Tr a c k Descript ion The Master Video T rack contains your project’ s main video and/or image clips. The Effe ct T rack contains special effec ts that apply to the video or image clip in the Master Video T rack at the same location.
Chapter 2: The Po werDirector W orkspace 19 Range Selection Click and drag one of the arrows on either side of the timeline slider to select a range of media on the timeline. Once selecte d , you can cut or copy and th en paste the selected media to another position on the timeline.
CyberLink P owerDirector 20 Showing/Hiding T racks T o hide a track in the tim eline*, first click Movie in the Preview windo w , then click at the extreme left of the track. When a track is hidden, it is not d isplayed in the Preview window . This way y ou can preview y our projec t by trac ks and concentrat e on the track you are working on.
21 Chapter 3: Pre -Production This chapter details the steps required fo r pre-production, including the import of media into the Media Room ’ s library , the capture of media within C yberLink Po werDirector and setting your C yberLink PowerDir ector preferen ces.
CyberLink P owerDirector 22 Downloading Media If you feel that you do not have enough media for y our projec t, or you are looking for specific media t o make your creation just per fect, you can: • click to download media from the Internet directly into the media librar y .

Note: you cannot use the photos do wnloaded into yo ur Media Library for commercial use. Click on the button underneath a phot o thumbnail to view its copyright info rmation.
CyberLink P owerDirector 24 DirectorZone is no w fully integrated into the CyberLink P owerDir ector UI for con venient search ing and preview ing of th e a vailable templates. These t emplates are created by either C y berLink or other C yberLink Po werDirector users, and then uploaded to DirectorZone.
Chapter 3: Pre-Producti on 25 Capturing from a D V Camcorder DV camcorders are popular among video hobbyists, as they rec ord in a digital format that does not require conv ersion before being used on a computer . Y ou can capture a single scen e or a number of scenes in a batch from your camcorder .
CyberLink P owerDirector 26 Automatic Batch Capture Automat ic batch ca pture is a qu ick way to capture scenes from a video tape. Click the button to access the automatic bat ch capture feature.
Chapter 3: Pre-Producti on 27 Note: thi s feature is not a vailable in all regions. Capturing from a W ebcam W ebcams are inexpensive , handy video cameras that you can use for simple video capturing. Capturing from a Microphone Y our video may require recorded dialog .
CyberLink P owerDirector 28 Note: if your A V CHD camcorder connec ts to your computer vi a USB, you must impor t video files direc tly as if your camcorder is a regular hard drive . See "Impor ting Media" on page 21 for information on importing video files.

T o detect the scenes in a vi deo clip, right click on it in either the Captured Cont ent area or within the media library and select Detect Scenes and then on Detect .
Chapter 3: Pre-Producti on 31 File Preferences T o set your file preferences , click > Edit > Pref erenc es . The P references window opens, displa ying the File tab. Av ailable options are as follow s: Default locations • Impor t folder : indicates the last folder that media was impor ted from.

Chapter 3: Pre-Producti on 35 • Use v ideo ov erlay fo r capture : keep this option selected during capture unless you hav e an older VGA card th at does not support video overlay . Deselecting this option in this event avoids the unsuppor ted overla y display errors.
CyberLink P owerDirector 36 Quality of 3D slideshow : • use the slider to set the qualit y of a produced 3D slideshow video . The slower the images move , the better the qualit y of the slideshow . When selected, CyberLink P owerDirector will use your computer’ s 3D graphics card (if you have one) to accelerate the production time.
37 Chapter 4: Creating Y our Story Now that you have all of y our media ready , this chapter will guide you through the process of turning your c ollection of medi a into professional-look ing videos and photo slideshows .
CyberLink P owerDirector 38 Note that you can only add certain media cl ips to specific tracks. F or example titles to the Title T rack, transitions to the Tr ansi tion T rack, or audio to the Voice or Music T rack. When you select a media clip , the tracks that you can add it to light up .

CyberLink P owerDirector 48 Performing a Multi T rim Y ou can trim all your video clips using the Multi T rim func tion. Multi T rim lets you trim out one or m ore portions o f a video clip at once, resulting in clips that are independent from the original video .

The size of the timeline magnifie r will change based on the magnification level selected. • drag the timeline magnifier along the timeline to find the sec tion of video you want to trim.
CyberLink P owerDirector 50 Y ou can also change the duration of the above mentioned media or for trimmed video clips, by select ing the clip and th en dragging the end of the clip to the desired duration. Note: you can only lengthen a video clip back to its original duration and transitions to half the duration of the shor test clip they affect.

The further the distance between each keyframe, the quicker the PiP effect will have to move to get to the next k eyframe. CyberLink P owerDirector 64 Modifying Particle Effects in the P article Designer A par ticle effect allows you to inser t par ticle objects (snow , dust, etc.) onto an existing image or video clip in your video, effectively o verlaying a picture-in- picture effect on the existing clip.

CyberLink P owerDirector 70 The keyframe timeline is located below the preview window. The title eff ect animation has four keyframes. The first two keyframes indicate the star t and end points for the beginning effect, while the last two indicate the star t and end points for the ending effect.

79 Chapter 5: Producing Y our Video When you are done creating y our movie , it is time to produce it. Producing a movie simply means compiling (or renderin g) the separate elements it contains into a playable video file.

87 Chapter 6: Creating Discs After you finish creating your video prod uction, click on Create Dis c to open the Create Disc module. Within the Create Di sc module you can burn your movie onto a CD , DVD or Blu-ray Disc (Ultra version only), complete with stylish menus, in just a few simple steps .
CyberLink P owerDirector 88 Importing Disc Content The Co nt e nt tab contains all of the videos and projects (called titles on your disc) that are currently in your disc menu and will be burned to a disc.
Chapter 6: Creating Discs 89 Selecting Pre -designed T emplates CyberL ink P owerDirector p rovides y ou wi th several stylish pre-designed menu templates that you can choose from. These menus are already customized f or you and may include such f eatures as motion and menu music.
CyberLink P owerDirector 90 Adding a First Play Video Use this option to add a video (or an exis ting CyberLink P owerDirector projec t) as a first play video to your created disc. Th e first play video plays automatically when the disc is inser ted into a disc player , be fore the disc menu loads.
Chapter 6: Creating Discs 91 Using the Menu Designer The Menu Designer* lets you customize a selected disc menu style. Click on the Menu Designer button to open it and begin customizing the selected menu.

After you set this configuratio n, CyberLink Po werDirector uses the same configuratio n each time you burn until you change the settings.
