5 Inserting the Batteries The camera is powered by a rechar geable lithium-ion batter y (Li-Ion 820 mAh). Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicated by t he arrow . Insert the batteries. y Install the b attery with the terminal facing inside the camera.
6 Charging the Battery Pack The battery is not charged when yo u purc hase the camera. Y ou need to charge the battery before using the camera Place the battery p ack in the charger with the label facing up. Connect the AC adapt or to the charger , and then plug it into a power outlet.
7 Inserting the Memory Card You can use SD Card with this digital camer a. The memory card slot is loc ated b eneath the battery cover, adjacent to the battery com partment. Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicated by t he arrow .
8 About Camera Memory This camera is equipped with internal memory . If the memory card is not inserted in th e camera, all images and movie clip s record ed b y the camera will be stored in the interna l memory . If the memory card is inserted, ima ges and movie clip s are stored on the memory card.
9 Setting the Date & Ti me T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Setup Menu ( pa g e 1 8 ) . Select [ Date & Ti me]. y Press or to select [Date & T ime] then press or the SET button to launch the submenu. Set date and time. y Press or to change the value of the cursor located.
10 Using the LCD Monitor The LCD monitor is us ed to comp ose ima ges while reco r ding, ad just setting s and rep lay images. Th e following indicators may appear on the LCD monitor while recording or playing back images.

13 Basic Operation T urning the Power On and Off Press the POWER button ( n ) to turn on the camera in the REC mode. y The power turns on, the lens ex ten ds and the LED light s in green. Press the PLA YBACK button ( o ) to turn on the camera in the PLA YBACK mode.
14 Changing the Mode Y ou can record images and voices in the REC mode. And using the PLA YBACK mode to replay , delete, or edit images on the LCD m onitor . Switching between REC mode and PLA YBACK mode In REC mode, press the PLA YBACK button ( n ) to switch to the PLA Y m ode.

16 Selecting the ASM mode Set the camera to the REC mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) . y It cannot be switch to ASM mode while in Movie or V oice REC mode. Launch the ASM mode. y Press the ASM button ( n ) to toggle switch between Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual Exposure mode.
17 Using the Menus When a menu is displayed, the fou r-way control and the SET button are used to make the desired settings. REC menu T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) . Open the REC menu. y Press the MENU button ( n ) to display the menu.

21 Basic Recording Recording Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) . Compose the subject on the monitor . y Aim the focus area ( n ) to the subject that you want to t a ke. Half press the shutter button to focus the image.
22 Using the Q mode The Q mode provides a simplif ied camera interface. Larger icons and fewer controls make it easier to take pictures a nytime, especially for the begin ners and elder users.
23 Setting Image Size and Quality Y ou can select lower image resolution and quality to decrease the ima ge siz e to capture more images. 24 Using the Zoom Function Your camera has a combination o f optical and digital zoom functions that allows you to zoom in on far away subjects o r zo om out for a wide angle shot. The optical zoom is achieved by m echa nically adjusting the lens of the came ra.
25 Using the Flash The flash is not only for taking p ictu res when th ere is insufficient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backl ight conditions. Press the flas h button to cycle your camera through the various flash mod es. The flas h will not activate when c ontinuo us shooting or movie recording.
26 Using the Macro Your camera is equipped with a macro fun c tio n that allows you to focus on very close subjects. In macro mode you can focus on subjects 15 c m from the lens when in the maximum wide angle setting a nd 40 cm in the maximum tele phot o setting.
27 Using the Self-timer & Burst Use the self-timer to set a delay from the time t he shutter button is pressed to the time the image is shot. Use the burst to record cont inuous still images shooting. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) .
28 Using the Aperture Priority In this mode, you can set an apert ure v a lue to match the brightness. A higher aperture value brings the b ackgroun d o ut of focus. Sele cting a lo wer ape rture v alue allo ws you to soft the bac kground. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Aperture Priority ( pa g e 1 6 ) .
29 Using the Manual Exposure Y ou can manually set the shutter speed an d a perture to achieve a p articular effect. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Manual Exposure ( pa g e 1 6 ) . 2 Use the SET button to switch between aperture value and shutter speed control.

31 Y ouT ube Mode The Y ouT ube Mode a llows yo u to recor d movies with predefined vid eo settings f or easy upload to the Y ouT ube website. Y ouT ube supports two file upload standards: y Single File Uploader . The maximum movie file siz e is up to 100 MB.
32 Playing Back Audio Clips T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) . Press or to select the audio clip that you want to playback. St art playing back. y Press to st art playing the audio clip. y Press to stop the audio clip, or pr ess to pau s e it.

34 Other Recording Functions Setting the Metering There are 3 different light metering options av ailable on your camera. Option Description Light is measured from the entir e s hooting screen, but gives more import ance to the values near the center .
35 Setting the ISO With the initial settings, the ISO sensitivit y is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Option Description Auto Sets the ISO sensitivit y automatically . ISO 50 Sets the sensitiv ity to ISO 50 equivalent. ISO 100 Set s the se nsitivity to ISO 100 equivalent.
36 Setting the Sharpness Y ou can select whether you want the image to have sharp or sof t outlines. Option Description The edges of the image are em ph asized. Th e edges will become sharp, but noise may occur in the r ec ording image. The edges of the image are sharp.
37 Setting St abilizer With more sensibility and faster shu tter spee d to bright up the pictures, ef fectively prevent blur image caused by h an d shack or target m ovement, one can t ake good pictures with little effort .
38 Playback Playing Back Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( p age 14). y The latest recorded image appears on the LCD monitor . y If there are no images stored, a message [No image] appears. Press the four-way control or ( n ).
39 Magnifying & T rimming Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( page 14). Select an image. y Press or ( p ) to select the image that you want to magnify or trimming. y Only still images can be magnified and trimmed.
40 Vie wing in Thumbnail T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( page 14). Press the zoom button [W], a thumbnail screen is displayed. Use the four- way control to select the desired image, and press [ T] or the SET button to show the selected image in full screen.

47 Changing the Image with Effect s Y ou may use Red Eye Removal remove the red eye cau sed by flash from origin al photo. Or use color filters to save as a new im age. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 1 4 ) . Press or to select the image you want to add the effect.
48 Copying the Files Y ou may copy the data from the camera ’ s internal memory to the memory card for convenience. Be sure you have inserted a memory card into your digit al camera. Set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode. ( pa g e 1 4 ) . Open the menu.
49 Setting the DPOF The Digital Print Ord er Format (DPOF) setting allows y ou t o select images on the memory card for printing and specify the num ber of print copies in advance using the camera. This is extremely convenient for sending the images to a photo developing service or for printing on a dir ect pr int function compat ible printer .

51 Making Connections Connecting the Camera to a TV Y ou can display recorded images on a television with a su pplied A V cable. Set the TV out to match the TV system that you are using ( pa g e 20 ) . T urn off the camera and the TV . Use the supplied A V cable to connect the camera to the TV set.

53 Appendix About the Folder & File Name Your digital camera automatically creates a directory of folders in the intern al memory o r memory card that it uses to organize still images, movie clips and other information. Folder Stru cture Y our camera creates th r ee d irector y names: y DICAM.
54 File Naming File name begins with “DSCI” and are followed by a 4-digit number that incre ase s in sequence. File numbering st arts from 0001 when a new folder is created. If the highest folder number is 99 9 and highest file numbe r exceeds 9999, the camera will display the warning message “Fold er cannot be created”.
55 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Battery is inserted in the wrong direction. Reload battery in the correct direction. Batteries are dead. Replace or recharge batteries. Power does not turn on. The battery compartment door is open. Make sure the battery compartment door is securely closed.
