6 IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with engi ne oil, but without gasoline, in the engine. After assembly, see OPERATION section of this manual for fuel selec tion and fill-up. NOTE : To determine right and left hand sides of your snow thrower, stand behind the unit in the operator’s position.
7 • Secure bottom hole on the handle to the snow thrower using 5/16 x .75" hex bolt and l ock washer from the hardware pack (group A on page 5 ).
8 • Insert hex bolt through the upper c hute crank bracket, handle panel support, and upper left handle. Secure the bracket using cupped washer and hex nut.
9 • Tighten all loos e hardware on the handle assembly in the foll owing order — first the hex bolts at the bottom of the handle, then the carriage bolts and lastly the hex bolts on the rear of the handle panel. Attaching Clu tch Cables The clutch control cables are attached to the s now thrower.
10 Attaching Tu rn Trigger s • Make sure that the right hand trigger cable is routed in front of the traction drive cabl e. • Feed the trig ger cabl e up th rough the oute r side of the sl ot in t he handl e pa nel. Do not f eed th e cabl e through t he same side of th e slot as the Z fitting .
11 Fina l Adjus tments Adjusting Aug er Control • To check the adjustment of the auger control, push forward the left hand cl utch grip until the rubber bumper is compressed. There should be slack in the clutch cable. • Release the clutch grip. The cable s hould be straight.
12 Knowing Yo ur Snow Thro wer Read this owner ’ s manual and safety rules before operating your snow thrower. Compare with your snow thrower to familiariz e yourself with the location of v arious controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference.
13 Operating Contro ls (See Figure 17.) Chute Crank The chute crank is located on the l eft side of the snow thrower. To change the direction in which snow is thrown, turn chute crank as follows: turn clockw ise to discharge to the left; turn counterclockwis e to discharge to the right.
14 Before St arting Engin e Fill Gas W ARNING: Gasol ine is fl ammab le and cau- tion mu st be used whe n handling o r storing it. Do not fill fuel tank whi le the snow thrower is running, when it is hot or when it is in an enclosed area.
15 Cold Start NOTE: If the unit shows any s ign of motion (drive or augers) with the clutch grips disengaged, shut the engine off immediately. Readjust as instructed in the “ Final Adjustm ents ” section on page 11.
16 Use slower speeds until you are familiar with the operation of the snow thrower. • Squeeze the traction drive clutch gr i p against the right handle and the snow thrower will move.
17 General Recom mendations • Always observe safety r ul es when per forming any maintenance. • The warranty on this snow thrower does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from the warranty, oper ator must maintain the snow thrower as instructed in this manual.
18 Lubri cation For a view of the lubrication points on the snow thrower, see Figure 20. Sprocket Shaft • Lu bricate the spro cket shaft with grea se at least once a season o r aft er every 2 5 hours of operat ion. IMPORTANT: Keep all grease and oil off of the friction wheel and the drive plate.
19 Engine Mainte nance Engine Oil Only use high qual ity detergent oil rated with API service classification SF, SG or SH. Select the oil ’ s SAE viscosity grade according to the expected operating temperature. NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30 etc.
20 W ARNING: Always stop the engine, dis- connect spark plug wire and mov e it a wa y from the spark plug bef ore performing any adjustments or repairs .
21 Figure 24 • Insert the ferrule into the upper hole in the shift lever from the right side when adjustment is correct. Secure with the flat washer and the hairpin clip that you had earli er removed. See Figure 24. • Check for correct adjustment of the traction drive control as instructed i n the Final Adjustment section.
22 Figure 27 • To remove the front auger drive belt, push the idler pulley to the left and lift front auger drive belt from the fr ont auger pulley. See Figure 27.
23 • Reassemble the new friction wheel rubber to the friction wheel assembly tightening the six screws in rotation and with equal force. • Position the friction wheel assembly up onto the pin of the shift rod as sembly and slide the shaft through the friction wheel.
24 If your snow thrower is left unused for 30 days or longer, it needs to be prepared for storage. Also, at the end of the snow season, y ou should follow the same set of instructions and s tore the snow thrower properly for the off-season. Proper storage ensures longer life of the s now thrower.
