4 About the Bundled CD-ROM and CD-R Handling Precautions • Handle the disc to avoid finger smudges, dir t, scratches, etc. on either of its sur faces. • Should the disc become dir ty , use an eyeglass cleaning cloth or some other soft dr y cloth to wipe it lightly fr om the center of the disc outwar ds towards its edge.
5 1. 2. Using the Assistant Featur e The DISC TITLE PRINTER application has an Assistant feature that guides you step-by-step thr ough cer tain operations. (See page 22.) Help Y ou can access infor mation about procedur es and precautions us- ing the DISC TITLE PRINTER application’s Help featur e.

Screens appear d if fe r en t ly when running the application under another operating system. • Note that the screen images shown in this manual may dif fer somewhat from those that actually appear on your computer screen.
7 How to use this Manual • This section takes you through the basic label creation and printing process, using a music CD label as an example. The sections of this manual are arranged as shown below.
After using this DISC TITLE PRINTER application to create the labels you want, you can connect your printer to your computer and print them. Y ou can also impor t track names from W indows Media TM Player , or Easy CD Creator , or you can impor t CD-TEXT from a CD (page 26).
This printer and its software do not include functions for recording to a CD-R, CD-RW or other types of discs. • Data Discs You can import the names of folders and files you plan to store on a disc and print them on its label. You can also type in information manually (pages 20 and 30).
10 • Print with TrueType fonts installed on your PC (page 39). • Support for both text and images (page 41). Note that images are printed in monochrome. • A collection of preset templates lets you produce great looking labels with minimum effort.
11 • A Free Text Template allows more control over the appearance and layout of text (Free Text → page 46). • A Free Design template gives you almost total freedom for laying out text and images to create exactly the look you want (Free Design → page 46).
12 Label Making Overview Label Creation Basics After you install the DISC TITLE PRINTER application, connect the printer to your computer , and load an ink ribbon cassette into the printer ,* you can per form this operation in this section to actually print a label.
13 3. Click . This displays the main window for the music label template. Important! Y ou must select a label template befor e you can per form operations on the main window . 2. Select the “V ertical” or “Horizontal” option, and then click OK .
14 4. Input the text data you want. Move the cursor to the label input boxes, and then type in the disc title, ar tist names, and track names. The text you input appears in the preview image on the screen. Important! The warning message “Printing string is over flow” appears when the text data you input does not fit inside the print area.

17 • The dialog box shown below appears on your computer screen when the disc tray opens. 1 Shows how the disc should be oriented when placed on the disc tray. Note • Y ou can specify the ver tical/horizontal configuration of your printer using the Printer Orientation setting on the Print 2 tab of the Ad- vanced Settings dialog box (page 61).
18 Printing on a disc that already has something printed on it This printer will not print properly over a logo or other printing that is already on a disc. For such a disc, you will need to use the print- er's built-in printing guide to make sur e that printing is per formed in the correct location.

20 Label Making with Preset T emplates Automated Label Layout A selection of content-specific preset label formats makes label creation as easy as selecting the right format and filling in the blanks. The follow- ing procedure shows how to do this, using the music label template as an example.
21 Digital Image Label • If you want to create your own original layout, select the Fr ee T ext or Free Design template. See “Creating an Original Label Layout” on page 46 for more information.
22 Using the Assistant Feature The Assistant feature provides you with step-by-step guidance for creating labels and per forming other operations. The Assistant scr een does not appear while the Free T ext or Free Design label template is displayed. Using the Assistant Screen When you ar e unsure of DISC TITLE PRINTER application operations.
23 Using the Main W indow The information in this section describes the main window for the music label template. 2 File Button Clicking the button displays a menu of commands that you can use to per form the operations described below.
24 3 Advanced Settings Button Displays a dialog box for more advanced printing and phrase settings (page 61 ). 4 Help Button Displays help. Clicking the button displays a menu of commands that you can use to perfor m the operations described below.
25 t Label Preview Image Y ou can use this image to get an idea of what your label will look like, before you actually print it. y Eject Button Opens the disc tray . This button per forms the same operations as the Eject button on the front of the printer .
26 Importing T ext Data Impor ting data helps to eliminate the need for inputting text by hand. The following describes the type of text data you can impor t into labels.
27 Important! The DISC TITLE PRINTER application suppor ts display of English, Japa- nese, Korean, and Chinese. Note, however , that your system may not be able to display Japanese, Korean and Chinese correctly if it is not configured for the special characters used by these languages.
28 3. After impor ting the track list, select Export Playlist to File... from the File menu, and save data to a playlist file (a file with the file name extension “asx”). 29 Importing Easy CD Creator Data for a Music Label Note Easy CD Creator • Easy CD Creator is CD-R and CD-RW writing software. DISC TITLE PRINTER application suppor ts pr oject lists created using Easy CD Creator for incorporation into a music label.
30 Importing File and Folder Name for a Data Label or Digital Image Label Use the following pr ocedures to impor t a folder name and file names for data label or digital image label.
31 Importing Data Created with a Previous V ersion Perform the following steps to impor t data from a file that was cr eated using a previous version DISC TITLE PRINTER application, and conver t it to DISC TITLE PRINTER for CW -100 V er . 4.10 format.
32 Useful T ext Input Functions Right-clicking the DISC TITLE PRINTER application main window displays a shor tcut menu of commands that come in handy during text input. 1 Copy Copies the selected text to the clipboard. 2 Paste Pastes the contents of the clipboard at the current cursor position.
33 Saving Label Data 1. Click the button. 2. On the menu that appears, click Save . This displays a dialog box for saving label data. • Save: This button appears if this is the first time you are saving the label data. Clicking this button saves the data, assigning the title name as the file name.
34 Opening a Label Data File Perform the following steps when you want to open an existing label data file. • See page 31 for information about opening a file created using previous version DISC TITLE PRINTER application. 1. Click the button. 2. On the menu that appears, click Open .
35 Creating a Data Index File For a disc that contains so much data that it cannot fit on a label, you can use the following procedure to create a data index file that you can print out on a computer printer . 1. Click the button. 2. On the menu that appears, click Create Data Index File .
36 Important! With print patterns 8 through q , only one line of text can be printed in each label print area, regardless of the font size (1 × , 2 × , 3 × ) set- ting. To configure print pattern settings 1. On the main window , click the panel. This displays a menu for selecting a print pattern.
37 To modify a preset print pattern 1. On the main window , click . This displays a dialog box for selecting a print pattern. 2. Click . This displays a dialog box for configuring advanced print pattern set- tings. The settings you configure are reflected here.
38 To modify a preset text layout 1. On the main window , click . 2. Click . This displays a menu for selecting a text layout. The settings you configure are reflected here.
39 Configuring Font Settings Use the procedures in this section to control the font, attribute, and size settings of label text. 1. On the main window , click the button. This displays a dialog box for configuring font settings. 2. Select a tab and then make the settings you want.
40 6. In the Font Size group, specify the number of lines and the font size. To do this: Select this number of line option: Print 6 lines per label 6 lines: Print 9 lines per label 9 lines: • The number of lines you can print per label also depends on the font size.

42 2. Display the screen you want to capture. 3. On the W indows taskbar , click DISC TITLE PRINTER for CW -100 . This displays the main window . 4. On the main window , click the button. This displays the Image dialog box. 5. Click Capture . This minimizes the main window .
43 7. After making sure the preview shows the image you want, click OK . Note that the layout preview image on the main window shows a monochrome version of the image you selected. Note • See page 44 for information about monochrome conversion dithering settings.
44 Maintain Aspect Ratio On Maintain Aspect Ratio Of f Note that the Image Position settings appear dimmed and are not available when the Maintain aspect ratio check box is cleared. 2. While an image is displayed in the preview area of the Image Set- tings dialog box, select the setting you want under Image Position.
45 2. Select “Pattern” or “Err or Diffusion” and then click OK . The dithering setting you select is reflected in the label preview image on the screen. Difference between Pattern and Err or Diffusion Dithering W ith both dithering methods and dark colors ar e printed blacker , while light colors are a lighter shade of gray.
46 Original Label Making Creating an Original Label Layout There are two templates for cr eating an original label layout: the Fr ee T ext label template and the Fr ee Design label template. For details about mor e basic label creation procedures, see the steps under “Automated Label Layout”.
47 Free T ext Label T emplate Main W indow Resizing the W ork Area Y ou can resize the work ar ea by dragging its right side, bottom, or lower right cor ner . • Resizing the work area while you are editing text inside of it cancels the editing operation.
48 Free Design and Free T ext T emplate Main Windows Free T ext T emplate 1 Print Patter n Panel This panel shows the location and orientation of the printing on the currently selected label. Click this panel when you want to change the text layout. 2 T oolbar Contains a selection of useful editing tools.
49 5 Image Button Click this button to input an image or to select a background image (page 51 ). 6 Print Button Prints the label (page 16). Free Design T emplate See “Free T ext T emplate” for infor mation about 1 and 3 . 5 Layout Button Alignment The commands in this submenu align fields on a reference field.
50 Configuring Font Settings (Free T ext T emplate, Free Design T emplate) This section describes how to configure font settings for text you input manually into the work ar ea, or text you impor t. Y ou can select font, font size, font style, and text alignment fr om the toolbar .
51 Inserting a Label Background Image (Free T ext T emplate) 1. On the main window , click . 2. Click or , and then select the image you want to inser t. • The image appears in the pr eview image on the main window. • One image can be inser ted per label ar ea.
52 Fields (Free Design T emplate) This section contains general information about fields. It also explains operations that are common to both text and image fields. Field T ypes A field is a kind of box you can inser t into the work ar ea to hold text or an image.
53 Inputting T ext into a T ext Field (Free Design T empla te) The following describes how to input, edit, and delete text. To input text manually 1. On the main window , click or . This inser ts a text field into the upper label ar ea. 2. T ype in the text you want.
54 2. Click Batch or Separate . • The text you input here appears in the work area and the label preview image. Note • When you impor t file names and folder names, click OK . • When you impor t file names and folder names, each name is in- ser ted into its own field.
55 Resizing a Field (Free Design T emplate) Use the procedures in this section when you want to change the size of a field. Important! Note that the result obtained when you resize a field depends on whether it is a text field or an image field. 1. Select the field you want to resize so it is enclosed by a gray selection boundar y .
56 Aligning and Resizing Fields (Free Design T emplate) A selection of useful commands makes it possible to instantly position fields on a label and to make multiple fields the same size (See page 49 ). Note Y ou can use the following pr ocedures for both text fields and image fields.
57 To align fields 1. Drag the mouse on the label so the fields you want to align or resize are enclosed in the selection boundar y . Selection boundar y • The reference field is sur rounded by a relatively thick gray boundar y , while other selected fields are surrounded by thin boundaries.
