E-2 • The watch continues to operate, e ven when it is not exposed to light. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which will result in some watch functions to be disabled. If the batter y goes dead, you will hav e to re-configure watch settings after recharging.

E-10 Radio-controlled Atomic Timekeeping This watch receiv es a time calibration signal and updates its time setting accordingly . • This watch is designed to pick up the time calibr ation signals transmitted in Germany (Mainflingen), England (Anthorn), the United States (Fort Collins), China (Shangqiu), and Japan (Fukushima, Fukuoka/Saga).
E-11 • When using the watch outside the areas cov ered by the time signal transmitters, y ou will hav e to adjust the current time setting manually as required. See “ T o set the time and date manually ” (page E-58) for more inf ormation about manual time settings.
E-12 T o specify your Home City 1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about five seconds until the left dial hand points to T1 and the city code flashes on the upper display . This is the setting mode. 2. Press D (east) and B (west) to select the city code you want to use as y our Home City .

E-14 Time Calibration Signal Reception There are two different methods y ou can use to receive the time calibration signal: auto receive and manual receiv e. • Auto Receive With auto receive, the w atch receives the time calibration signal automatically up to six times a day (fiv e times for the China signal).
E-15 Important! • When getting ready to receive the time calibration signal, position the w atch as shown in the nearby illustr ation, with its 12 o ’ clock side pointing towards a windo w . This watch is designed to receiv e a time calibration signal late at night.
E-16 • Proper signal reception can be difficult or ev en impossible under the conditions listed below . • Signal reception normally is better at night than during the day . • Time calibration signal reception takes from two to se ven minutes, but in some cases it can take as long as 14 minutes .

E-23 Note • When a calibration time is reached, the watch will receiv e the calibration signal only if it is in either the Timekeeping Mode or World Time Mode. Reception is not performed if a calibration time is reached while you are configuring settings .
E-24 T o perform manual receive 1. Place the watch on a stable surf ace so its 12 o ’ clock side is facing to wards a window (page E-15). 2. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about two seconds until the watch beeps. 3. The digital display will go blank, and the left dial hand will move to R ( READ Y ).

E-27 Signal Reception T roubleshooting Check the f ollowing points whenev er you e xperience problems with signal reception. • Y ou performed some button operation during auto receive. • The watch is not in the Timekeeping Mode or W or ld Time Mode.
E-28 Probable Cause Problem What y ou should do The time setting is incorrect follo wing signal reception. • If the time is one hour off, the DST setting may be incorrect. • The Home City code setting is not correct for the area where y ou are using the watch.
E-29 W orld Time World Time digitally displays the current time in one of 48 cities (29 time zones) around the world. A simple operation sw aps your Home City with the currently selected World Time City . • The times kept in the World Time Mode are synchronized with the time being kept in the Timekeeping Mode.
E-30 Right Dial Hand The right dial hand shows the current hour in the World Time City in all modes. • The right dial hand moves just lik e the nor mal hour hand, completing one re volution ev ery 12 hours. • Between the noon and midnight in the World Time Mode, a PM indicator ( PM ▼ ) appears above the right dial hand.

E-32 T o toggle a city code time between Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time 1. In the W orld Time Mode, press D to display the city code (time zone) whose Standard Time/Daylight Sa ving Time setting you want to change .
E-33 Swapping your Home City and World Time City Y ou can use the procedure below to sw ap your Home City and World Time City . This changes your Home City to your World Time City , and your W orld Time City to your Home City . This capability can come in handy when y ou frequently travel between two cities in different time z ones.
E-34 Stopwatch The stopwatch lets you measure elapsed time , split times, and two finishes. • The digital display r ange of the stopwatch is 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds . • The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after it reaches its limit, until you stop it.

E-36 Countdown Timer Y ou can set the countdown timer start time within a range of one minute to 60 minutes . An alar m sounds when the countdown reaches zero . • Y ou also can select auto-repeat, which automatically restarts the countdown from the original value you set whenev er zero is reached.
E-37 T o use the countdown timer Press D while in the Countdown Timer Mode to star t the countdown timer . • When the end of the countdown is reached and auto-repeat is turned off, the alarm will sound for 10 seconds or until y ou stop it by pressing any button.
E-38 T o configure countdown start time and auto-repeat settings 1. While the countdown star t time is on the displa y in the Countdown Timer Mode, hold down A for about three seconds until the minute setting of the countdown start time starts to flash.
E-39 4. Press A to exit the setting mode. • The auto-repeat on indicator ( ) is displayed on the Countdo wn Timer Mode screen while this function is turned on.
E-40 Alarms When an alarm is tur ned on, the alarm tone will sound when its alarm time is reached. One of the alarms is a snooze alarm, while the other four are one-time alarms. Y ou also can turn on an Hour ly Time Signal that causes the watch to beep twice e very hour on the hour.
E-41 T o set an alarm time 1. In the Alarm Mode, use D to scroll through the alarm screens until the one whose time you want to set is display ed. • T o set a one-time alar m, display alarm screen AL1 , AL2 , AL3 or AL4 . T o set the snooze alarm, display the SNZ screen.
E-42 Alarm Operation The alarm tone sounds at the preset time for 10 seconds, regardless of the mode the watch is in. In the case of the snooze alarm, the alar m operation is performed a total of sev en times, e very five minutes, or until y ou turn the alar m off (page E-43).
E-43 T o turn an alarm on and off 1. In the Alarm Mode, use D to select an alarm. 2. Press A to toggle it on and off. • T ur ning on a alarm ( AL1 , AL2 , AL3 , AL4 or SNZ ) displays the alarm on indicator on its Alarm Mode screen. • In all modes, the alarm on indicator is shown for an y alarm that currently is turned on.
E-44 T o turn the Hourly Time Signal on and off 1. In the Alarm Mode, use D to select the Hourly Time Signal ( SIG ) (page E-41). 2. Press A to toggle it on and off. • The Hourly Time Signal on indicator is sho wn on the display in all modes while this function is turned on.
E-45 Illumination An LED (light-emitting diode) illuminates the face of the watch for easy reading in the dark. The w atch ’ s auto light switch turns on illumination automatically when you angle the watch towards y our face. • The auto light switch m ust be turned on (indicated by the auto light switch on indicator) f or it to operate.
E-46 About the Auto Light Switc h T ur ning on the auto light switch causes illumination to turn on, whenev er you position your wrist as described below in any mode . Note that this watch f eatures a “ Full A uto LED Light ” , so the auto light switch operates only when av ailable light is below a certain level.
E-47 Moving the watch to a position that is parallel to the g round and then tilting it towards you more than 40 degrees causes illumination to turn on.
E-48 W arning! • Always make sure y ou are in a safe place whenever you are reading the display of the watch using the auto light s witch. Be especiall y careful when running or engaged in any other activity that can result in accident or injury .
E-49 P ower Supply This watch is equipped with a solar cell and a special rechargeable battery (secondary battery) that is charged by the electrical power produced by the solar cell. The illustration shown belo w shows how you should position the w atch for charging.
E-50 Important! • Storing the watch for long periods in an area where there is no light or wearing it in such a way that it is b locked from exposure to light can cause rechargeab le batter y power to run down. Be sure that the watch is exposed to bright light whenev er possible.

E-52 • The flashing LOW indicator at Lev el 3 ( L ) tells you that battery power is very low , and that exposure to bright light for charging is required as soon as possib le. • At Lev el 5 ( CHG ), all functions are disabled and settings return to their initial factory defaults.
E-53 • Overuse of displa y illumination or the beeper can cause the RECO V (Recover) indicator to appear in the upper display , which indicates that the watch is in the battery power recov er y mode. Face illumination, the alarm, the countdown timer alarm, time signals, and all hand operations are disabled in the po wer recovery mode.
E-54 Charging Precautions Certain charging conditions can cause the watch to become very hot. A void leaving the watch in the areas described below whene ver charging its rechargeable battery . Also note that allowing the watch to become v ery hot can cause its liquid cr ystal display to b lack out.
E-55 Charging Guide After a full charge, timekeeping remains enab led for up to about six months . • The follo wing table shows the amount of time the watch needs to be e xposed to light each day in order to gener ate enough power for normal daily operations.

E-58 Read This Before Y ou Set the Time and Date! This watch is preset with a number of city codes , each of which represents the time zone where that city is located. When setting the time, it is important that you first select the correct city code for y our Home City (the city where you normally use the watch).

E-62 Daylight Sa ving Time (DST) Daylight Sa ving Time (summer time) adv ances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. Remember that not all countr ies or ev en local areas use Daylight Saving Time .
E-63 T o change the Daylight Saving Time (summer time) setting 1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about five seconds until the left dial hand points to T1 and the city code flashes on the upper display . This is the setting mode. 2. Press C .
E-64 Dual Time Dual Time lets you displa y the current time in another time zone called your “ Dual Time City ” , in addition your Home City ’ s current time. This f eature is very handy for business prof essionals and others who need to keep trac k of the current time in two different time z ones.
E-65 T o specify the Dual Time City 1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about five seconds until the left dial hand points to T1 and the city code flashes on the upper display . This is the setting mode. 2. Press A again. The left dial hand will mo ve to T2 and the current Dual Time City code will start to flash on the upper display .
E-66 Hand Home P osition Correction The hour and minute hands of the watch can be thro wn off by exposure to strong magnetism or impact. The watch is designed to perf orm hour and minute hand correction automatically ev ery hour in order to correct variation within the range of – 55 minutes to +5 minutes .
E-67 T o trigger the auto hand home position correction manually In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down D for about six seconds, until H-SET starts flashing on the upper display . • Note that H-SET will appear on the upper display about three seconds after you depress D , b ut you should not release the button until H-SET starts flashing.
E-68 T o adjust the home positions manually 1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down D f or about three seconds, until H-SET appears on the upper displa y . • The dial hands are in their correct home positions when the left dial hand mov es to C ( CHG ) and the right dial hand moves to 12 .
E-69 • The hour and minute hands are in their correct home positions if they are at 12 o ’ clock. If they are not, use D (+) and B ( – ) to adjust their positions as required. • Pressing C here will return to the setting at the beginning of step 2.

E-71 • Wearing the watch inside the slee ve of clothing can cause it to enter the sleep state. • The watch will not enter the sleep state between 6:00 AM and 9:59 PM. If the watch is already in the sleep state when 6:00 AM arrives, ho wev er , it will remain in the sleep state.
E-72 T o turn Power Sa ving on and off 1. In the Timek eeping Mode, hold down A f or about five seconds until the left dial hand points to T1 and the city code flashes on the upper display . This is the setting mode. 2. Press C nine times until PS appears in the upper display and a flashing or appears in the lower display .
E-73 Radio-controlled Atomic Timekeeping Precautions • Strong electrostatic charge can cause the time setting to be thrown off . • The time calibration signal bounces off the ionosphere.
E-74 • If you are in an area where proper time calibration signal reception is impossib le, the watch keeps the time with the precision noted in “ Specifications ” .
E-75 • When a China time zone is selected, the watch receiv es the time calibration signal transmitted from China (Shangqiu City). • When your Home City is LIS , LON , MAD , PA R , RO M , BER , ST.
E-76 Initial Screens When you enter the World Time Mode or Alar m Mode, the data you were vie wing when you last e xited the mode will appear first. Timekeeping • Resetting the seconds to 00 while the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1.
E-77 Illumination Precautions • Illumination may be hard to see when vie wed under direct sunlight. • Illumination turns off automatically whenever an alarm sounds.
E-78 • Static electricity or magnetic force can interfere with proper oper ation of the auto light switch. If illumination does not tur n on, try moving the watch back to the starting position (parallel with the ground) and then tilt it back to ward you again.

E-82 Operating Precautions W ater Resistance • The following applies to w atches with W A TER RESIST or W A TER RESIST ANT marked on the back cov er .
E-83 • W atches that do not have WA TER RESIST or W A TER RESIST ANT marked on the back cov er are not protected against the effects of sweat. Av oid using such a watch under conditions where it will be exposed to large amounts of s weat or moisture, or to direct splashing with water .
E-84 • Some water-resistant watches come with f ashionable leather bands. Av oid swimming, w ashing, or any other activity that causes direct exposure of a leather band to water . • The inside surface of the w atch glass may f og when the watch is exposed to a sudden drop in temperature.
E-85 • Deterioration, rust, or corrosion of the band can cause it to break, which may result in the watch f alling off your wrist and becoming lost. Be sure to take good care of the band and keep it clean.
E-86 Impact • Y our watch is designed to withstand impact incurred during normal daily use and light activity such as playing catch, tennis , etc. Dropping the watch or otherwise subjecting it to strong impact, howe ver , can lead to malfunction.
E-87 • Electrostatic charge can cause the display to go b lank momentarily or cause a rainbow eff ect on the display . Chemicals • Do not allow the watch to come into contact with thinner , gasoline, solvents, oils , or fats , or with any cleaners, adhesives , paints, medicines, or cosmetics that contain such ingredients.
E-88 • Leaving the watch where it is e xposed to direct sunlight (ultraviolet rays) f or long periods or failure to clean dirt from the watch for long periods can cause it to become discolored. • Friction caused by certain conditions (frequent external f orce, sustained rubbing, impact, etc.
E-89 Natural Leather and Imitation Leather Bands • Allowing the watch to remain in contact with other items or storing it together with other items while it is wet f or long periods can cause the color of the other items to transf er to the natural leather or imitation leather band of the watch.
E-90 • T o clean the band, use a soft toothbr ush or similar tool to scrub it with a weak solution of water and a mild neutral detergent. T ake care to av oid getting solution on the watch case.
E-91 User Maintenance Caring for Y our Watch • A dirty or r usty case or band can soil the slee ve of your clothing, cause skin irritation, and ev en interfere with watch perf or mance. Be sure to keep the case and band clean at all times. Rust tends to form easily after the watch is exposed to seawater and then left without cleaning.
E-92 • Remember that you wear your w atch next to y our skin, just like a piece of clothing. Because of this, you should alwa ys keep your watch clean. Use a soft, absorbent cloth to wipe off any dirt, sweat, water , or other foreign matter from the case and band.
E-93 Skin Irritation • Individuals with sensitive skin or in poor ph ysical condition may experience skin irritation when wearing a watch. Such individuals should keep their leather band or resin band particular ly clean, or s witch to a metal band.
