11 S If the brak e is already ac tivat ed, it is disengaged by pulling the fr ont hand guar d back toward the fr ont handle as far as poss ible. S When cut ting with the s aw , the c hain brak e must be dis engaged. Disengaged Engaged Bra king f unction cont rol CAUTION: The c hain brake mus t be c heck ed s ever al times daily.
12 Direct ion of Fall 45 _ Plan a clear retreat path FELLING LARGE TREES (6 inches (15 cm) in diameter or lar ger) The notc h method is used to fell lar ge trees. A notc h is c ut on the s ide of the tree in the de- sir ed direc tion of fall. Aft er a felling c ut is made on the opposite s ide of tree, t he tr ee will tend to fall into the notc h.
