1 1 Introduction This advanced scanner is a prou d to be among the world's first dua l-laser pre - sentation scanners, and it incorporates numerous record-breaking features.
2 3 Finding Y our W ay Around Figure 1: Overview 4 Connecting and Mounting 4.1 Power The scanner requires a minimum of 300mA at 5 Vdc power . The interface cab le that comes with the scanner suppo rts.
3 are sure your POS sy stem can handle th e load, it is recommended that you use the supplied power ad apter . When an external adapter is connecte d, the scan - ner does not t ake power from the host. The scanner tu rns on when po wer is supp lied, and turns of f when power is removed.
4 2. Insert the 8-pin m odular plug of th e power link cable into the “host” co nnec - tor in the back of the scanner until a firm click is heard. 3. Plug the power adapter into th e jack on the power link cable. (See Figure 1.) 4. Plug the AC end of the po wer adapter into an AC outlet.
5 Mounting Plate Installation 1. Position the mounting plate in the desire d location and secure it in place. If desired, use the full-size bo ring template in Figure 6 on page 21 .

7 Auxiliary Handheld Scanner Connection (optiona l) The scanner supports the ope ration of an auxiliary handheld scanner , which may be connected via a 10-pin RS-232 m odular plug to the connector marked “aux” in the back of the scanner .
8 4.4 Connecting to the Host The power link interface cable comes wi th different host- end connectors, depending on the host. Follow the ste ps below to connect th e interface cable to the host. 1. Make sure that the power of the host sys tem is off.
9 Programming Guide, to the scanner . The scanner gives two bee ps: low and high, and the LED turns red. The scanner is in programming mode. 2. Decide which p arameters are require d and find their barcodes in the Pr o - gramming Guide. 3. Cover unwanted codes with your han d and p resent the desired codes, one by one, to the scanner .
10 6 Operation The scanner can read barcodes in e ither sweep or presentation mode to accommodate dif ferent requirements . Sweep mod e means moving items through the scan volu me. Left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, etc. are a ll okay .
11 6.2 Beeps A beeper gives audible feedback o n scanner operati on. 6.3 Changing the Beep V olume The scanner can be pr ogrammed with the Programm ing Guide to change beeper tone, volume and duration; the beeper volume ca n also be changed by using the push button.
12 6.5 Controlling the Sca nner from a POS System The scanner can be contr olled from the POS system via the RS-232C in terface. Control can be accomplish ed by transmitting the following single-byte com - mands to the scanner .
13 7 Maintaining the Scanner The scanner is designed fo r long-term trouble-fr ee operation and rarely needs any maintenance. Only an occasional clean ing of the scanner window is neces - sary in order to remove di rt and fingerprint s.

18 1 1 T roubleshooting Problem Diagnostic T ip s The scanner is on but canno t read barcodes. T he LED stays blue. The scanner win dow is dirty . Clean the scan - ner window as descri bed in the Maintenance section. The presente d barcode type is not e nabled.
19 Problem Diagnostic T ip s A barcode is read by the scanner but not accepted by the POS system. The communication ca ble is not connected to the correct port of your POS system. R efer to the manual of your POS system to locate the serial port. The communication settin gs of the system and scanner do no t match.
